    • +2

      It's a shame the flights aren't free too ;^)

    • +2

I am sure there are flights during school holidays as well.

      • +2

        not for $39, I checked…

      • +1

yeh, i am pretty sure airlines still operate during school holidays

        • +2

Not at these seat prices unfortunately…

  • Can't get much cheaper than $39 and for a flight thats less than an hour who cares what the carrier is like?

    • Last week you could fly to Malaysia for that much ;)

    Friggin yay!! DARK MOFO… 12-22nd June 2015: http://www.darkmofo.net.au/

    Cheap flghts booked. Cheers OP!

    • +1

Looks nice… Sorry to be a noob, can you please quickly say what this event is about? Is it like stereosonic?

      • +5

My definition… DARK MOFO is a genuine 'alternative' 10 day festival from the amazing mind of David Walsh as an annual extension to his mindblowingly good Museum/Gallery MONA. If you've never been to MONA and don't mind a surreal experience then book a flight purely just to visit it but beware… if you're not into surrealism or are unwilling to open your mind during the visit then may be disappointed.

Prepare to be cold, prepare to open your eyes & ears, prepare to eat & drink some of Tassies finest and prepare to be challenged!

        • +2

Tip of the hat to this, if you haven't been to MONA then you need to go.

        • +1

@ChickenTalon: Ah yes CT, another fan I see :) There's nothing quite like wandering through corridors of plaster casts of female genitalia then turning into a room of an up-scaled fully operational mechanical Cloaca you can set your watch by! Mind-blowing but not for everyone.

MONA is absolutely world class… easily on par with the large European/American Galleries & Museums I've been to but not what you'd call 'traditional' ;) It's also where Moo Brew is created and if you don't know what that is you REALLY need to get to Hobart ASAP.

… but Shhhh! Don't tell everyone about Hobarts best kept secret ;)

        • +1

Also, be prepared for crowds, expensive food, drink and freezing yo a$$ off.

        • @SteveAndBelle: Funfact: They're clay models, not casts

        • +1

@matth_yo: 'Fun' but not sure if factual sorry. Here's a DIY kit from the artists own site: http://www.greatwallofvagina.co.uk/shop/de-lux-vagina-castin…

        • @SteveAndBelle: no bargains :(

  • So what dates are excluded?

  • +2

I want to give you a kiss!

  • What would be the nicer destination if I was going to hire a car for 3-4 days, drive around national parks and mountains, sightsee, etc?

Not too fussed to just hang in either city. Thanks!

    • +1

Fly into one and fly out of the other! Spend a Saturday morning in Hobart at least and go to Salamanca Markets (rated one of the best in the world) and an afternoon at MONA. Cruise up or down the East Coast visiting Freycinet & Wineglass Bay and have an overnight in Bicheno which is the best place to see the Little Penguins and fill up on the sweetest seafood available. Duck into Port Arthur along the way and pop over to Cradle Mountain for a quick walk around Dove Lake. Your 4 days will go VERY quickly!

The West Coast is incredible but it isn't called the 'Wild West' for nothing and as its sparsely populated you'll need more than 4 days to include a visit out there.

    • +1

Take a week if you can, 4 days will be a massive rush.

      • +1

Completely agree. It's only a small state but for a 4-day trip you'll spend most of your time driving and it's the kind of place you don't want to rush around!

Jeebus dude you should write our tourism ad's, I Live in Tassie and even I'm not that enthusiastic.

        • @Tasmaniac: Guilty as charged ;) Love the place!

  • Crap. Bought two return tickets to Hobart for $800 from Brisbane a couple of days ago!

    • +1

I feel your pain. I've done the same thing and was about to do it last week too but just hoped & hoped another sale would pop up. Sorry for your $400 loss :( If with Jetstar maybe you could call them to discuss?! Worth a shot surely.

      • Haha thanks. I'm trying to justify it as a non issue because I'm travelling on the 17th of April - just outside of the dates!

        • +1

Ah well. Not a problem then! Nothing to see here ;)

  • +1

I feel obliged to upvote this. Thanks for the awesome deal!!!

  • Just had a quick check with Tiger and prices are the same for my dates (9 and 13 September), $39 each way.

  • Where's the best place to see in Tassie. It will be my first time. I bought my tickets to Launceston

    • All depends on what you're into. I've been visiting very regularly over the last 8 years and still haven't even scraped the surface of everything Tassie offers.

      • I'm going for two nights. I like nature, history

        • Launceston has a lot of history however Hobart would've been your better choice as I personally feel it would offer you more 'bang for buck' plus it's the gateway to the Port Arthur region which is a history buffs dream! You're only there for a short visit so don't try to pack too much in and maybe leave Hobart and the South for another trip but if you hang around Launceston for the history it offers and pop out to Cradle Mountain for a night for a Nature fix then that could be do-able but that's still pretty ambitious for such a short visit.

Hmmm, two nights really isn't long so maybe stay around Launceston this trip and do a couple of day trips here & there (lots of nice drives & walks in easy reach) and keep the South for another trip some other time. A two week holiday in Tassie is probably just enough time to introduce you to what Tassie has to offer but you'll then need to go back again & again to experience the particulars (eg. Overland Track, overnight at Maria Island etc.)

        • @SteveAndBelle:
I just checked Hobart and the difference is $48 return so I might just get tickets to those the week after so $148 to $98 so Hobartvis where the history is and yeah I want to see Port Arthur

  • Spending 3 nights in Hobart (arriving/leaving in the morning) in June - how's this for a first time plan:
    Thursday: Mount Wellington
Friday: Port Arthur + Tasman Peninsula 3 hour cruise
    Saturday: Salamanca Markets + MONA

Is it best if I hire a car everyday if I stay in the city near Salamanca Markets? Where can I hire a car?

    • IMO, best to book your hire car with one of Jetstars partner companies and collect/return it at the airport. Mt. Wellington is a must-do on a clear day but it wont take you anything more than a couple of hours to go up, have a look around and come back down so no need to put a whole day aside for that. Your Friday & Saturday plans sound perfect though, I still haven't done the cruise (jealous!) but it's definitely on my list.

      • Anything I have to worry about Winter? I read that it might be difficult to drive up Mount Wellington because of snow?

        • It'll be cold ;)

Seriously though, I've been up Mt. Wellington in crappy little 15 year old Barina in Winter while it was snowing without any problems. The road had been cleared earlier in the day and it was only snowing lightly though so probably best to just use common sense and turn around if you find things get a little slippery on your way up. Thing is, if it IS snowing up there then you may not be able to see much anyway so it may be best to leave it for another day/time/visit.
