  • I was thinking of one of these, then i found the SJCAM SJ5000, looks to be as good, but with a screen, and not much more $$

Does it come with a Cat Harness?

      • +6

Indeed, if no cat harness, no deal as far as I'm concerned. I've promised Pebbles a harness, and damn it, I won't be letting her down.

        • I've promised Pebbles a harness

          50 Shades of Cat

    • The SJ5000+ is the equivalent in the Ambarella sensor (16 Mpix, 1080p/60hz) and those go for >$200 AUD unfortunately.

The SJ5000 that is slightly more expensive is the cheaper Novatek sensor (14 Mpix, 1080p/30hz) and without the WIFI

      • I have the non-wifi version of the SJ5000 and its low light handling is amazing. Leaves my NoteII for dead in low light. In bright contrasting light the contrast is a washed out a bit. But a ripper camera and so wide angled. The screen on the back is brilliant. You can see what you are filming and with these wide angled lenses it's hard to guess.

Still haven't received my Xiaomi power bank from geekbuying…

    • I've sent you a PM.

For anyone else, please note that free shipping may take up to 30 business days after processing.

30 business days… that's really a long PERIOD for waiting.

        • That's normal for China Post/Singapore Post and that's why it's free. It may be quicker though. For me personally it takes 3 weeks,

$85.99USA which is just over $118AUD for an unknown untested camera.

    • +3

      Xiaomi unknown? No.
      Untested? Yes.

      • Sorry that's what I meant, I have a few of their power banks and they are great but for their camera's there are no independent reviews that ive seen on them.

      • Keeps ya hands off willy. He's right the camera is unknown/untested.

Even the mighty Apple produced the Newton.
And more importantly the reviews of the SJcam 5000+ are crap. This is from a company that had a history of good camera with the Sj4000 series.

Why anyone would buy a camera without any trusted reviews is beyond me. But good luck if you do, I hope it turns out wonderful.

        • Yes the camera is still untested for its quality, because it is only just officially released a week or so ago, not many people have it to test it yet.

But the brand Xiaomi is not unknown. That's what I meant.

Anyway I am not buying this action cam as it is better to wait for more people to use/test/review it first.

Xiaomi is the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. They're known for their high quality products for a low price.

Water proof…not resistant if its 40 meters… Resistant can only be splashed, waterproof can be submerged….

  • Anyone got sample footage off this? Really keen but can't justify $100 on something brand new and potentially buggy.

    • Check the review here. It has photo and video samples.

I've been interested in this camera for a long time. But still unsure about it features

    1) does the current firmware support english
    2) is it waterproof without a clear housing (that sjcam and gopro uses)

"But it seems I might be one of the luckier users of the Yi Action camera. There are reports from other users around the web of dreadful video quality, and terrible audio. Some users have complained of odd content beeping behaviour too and issues with the 1920 x 1080 60fps video option."

hmmm.. Might be a firmware thing.. might not. Good luck with it..

Mine arrived from Geek Buying on Monday via TNT. Worth the extra dollars for faster delivery. The stills and movie footage is very impressive. 1920 X 1080 60fps has proven flawless so far. Standard tripod mount on the base so there are many mounting options available. No waterproof shell available yet, but can't be far away. This camera is impressive especially given its price point. The manual is in simplified Chinese. Doesn't matter. The on screen display on your android device is mostly English so no sweat there. The iPhone app is due in April. Beautifully made. Hats off to Xiaomi, great job. For hand held filming you need a steady hand due camera shake but you can correct that with your editing program. The camera also has fisheye lens correction built in and selectable.
    Enjoy

    • I thought they would've include OIS if they want to take up Go Pro… but no…

  • It appears that the case and battery is proprietary, but other attachments are possibly compatible with Go Pro.
