    Awesome thanks!

Brilliant! Was waiting for a reduction on this.

  • two happy customers above.. are these regarded as some of the best wireless sets? been thinking about getting a set for home…

    • +1

Haven't used them before but have been on the lookout for the last 5 months.
These ones are good because you can have multiple units on the one receiver plus has a good range and this is the first time I've seen it under $200.

    • I have the RS120`s and after 7 years of daily use they kind of done for it. I was very happy with them for my requirements (movies and gaming on PC).

    • +1

I own these and love them. Had them for more than 2 years now with not one problem. Never lost connection from the base unit. Great for watching TV. The Sound is great. Love the simulated surround sound and the punchy bass.

    Thanks,

    Purchased.

I've got the R160s and they're great - so these should be about +10 to great

    • +1

Hmm, my mum has the R120s and she (and I) think they are great. Apparently, they are only great -5.

  • Please tell me if this is a dumb question, but can I connect these to my phone? (iphone)

edit: And are these aimed more at movies than music?

    • Yeah, should be fine… Audio input: 1/8" (3.5 mm) stereo headphone plug (includes 1/4" and RCA adapters).

    • You can but I wouldn't. If your main use would be with a phone I would recommend getting a pair of bluetooth headphones, which are getting better and cheaper all the time (there have been many deals on here).

IMHO these are best used as a dedicated wireless headset for your TV / Home Theatre (rather than for a portable device). In fact, that's how I use them every day.

They are also closed, so definitely bedroom-friendly.

I would say that they're more aimed at movies than music - the fake surround sound feature is actually quite good. The 180 are better for music and better overall but they're also much more expensive. The 180 is has an open design so will have more sound leakage.

You could do what I did and get an additional stand-alone RS 180 headset (aka HDR180) for the RS 170 base (currently can be had for $180 from noisymotel). This way you'll also have 2 headsets that can simultaneously be used from the same base.

In regards to the RS 170, I would say that at this price everybody should get one, especially if static free audio, long range or closed design are important.

EDIT: RS175/RS185 are now out - I still definitely recommend the 170s at this price, but wouldn't pay $180 the HDR180 headset.

      • Thanks mate, appreciate the advice.

I'm looking to replace my Audio-Technica ATH-M50x I got on here last year. Left them in a hotel in Japan! (idiot!)
Think I'll skip these as per you advice.

        Thanks again.

    Thanks grabbed one.

  • +1

    ordered one, thanks.

  • +1

Great price! Paid $199 for mine last year and have been happy with them.

The only thing to note is that new models are coming (eg. RS175).

  • watch out for the big dick not letting you use both offers (30% off the headphones and then $20 off) for the same product.

its happened to me before for pickup.

    • +3

I paid via paypal with the full discount and click and collect so they shouldn't need to try and process anything…

  • An OZB'er dilemma!! should I buy this or just get a decent (but cheap) bluetooth V4.0 sender/receiver from ebay so I can just use my existing headphones?? The main concern is the time lag for movies/games…

    • +1

Avantree Saturn Pro has a low-latency aptX codec, but to get the benefit, your bluetooth headphones need to have the same low-latency aptX codec too. The aptX website listed just four headphones/earphones (and none that appealed to me - two, at least, were gaming headsets and ugly as sin) that do, but more will come, I'm sure.

In the meantime, another way to go is to get two of them, one as a transmitter pushing the source audio to the other unit operating in receiver mode. Then just plug is any wired pair of headphones you want into the headphone socket on the receiving unit. These things are tiny, and could easily fit into pocket. So yes, there is a wire, but it shouldn't affect any ability to get up and move around.

Took it to jb HiFi at bankstown and they did it for $150.

  • I need digital input :-(

    • Ah, digital input on the headphones. The RS 220 has two. Sony MDR-DS6500 is another with digital input.

      • Sadly both of those are way to expensive.

        • Have you considered one of these?

        • @strangeloops66:
Yeah I looked into something like that but question the quality. I probably should grab one and try it before the next headphone deal.

        • @dan76n:

I'm using one that looks identical to this (also from eBay) with the 170s without any issues.

  • They all seem to be sold out in Adelaide for store pickup.

  • May be a silly question but do they work on ps4?

  • Does this create hissing sound? I have a sony wireless headset and it is giving hissing sounds and very distorting

    • No not mine. Crisp clear sound.

    • +1

No these use Kleer Wireless — uncompressed digital audio over wireless. Absolutely no hiss unlike those that use standard RF.

  • +1

Thanks, OP - ordered! These are pretty great. Ordered for my sister a few years ago ($300 which was a good price) and they sound fantastic for wireless headphones. No hiss.

  • do they work with Xbox one?

  • Can they be connected to a phone over bluetooth?

    • No.

With so many different kinds of wireless devices available, it is sometimes difficult to find the product that best fits your needs. There are Bluetooth, infrared and radio frequency wireless headphones. Each different product has its benefits and downfalls

      These are radio frequency (RF).

Radio frequency wireless headphones are our favorite headphone because of the large listening range, affordable price range and high-quality sound. Many of the high-end products, such as the Pioneer SE-DIR800C, Sennheiser RS180 and Sony MDR-DS6000 RF models, have a crystal-clear sound quality.

The advantages of RF technology are a greater range than Bluetooth and, at least at this stage, a capability of audio fidelity approaching that of wired headphones or speakers.

The RS 170 can be connected to a smartphone via the headphone socket. The difference is that your smartphone has the Bluetooth radio built in, whereas the RF radio transmitter needs to be connected. The receiver in both cases is built into the headphones.

Very good deal, paid $169 delivered for the RS160 not that long ago…couldnt justify the extra cost for the RS170 which was mostly for the charging cradle.

    • The 170s also have a decent artificial surround feature as well as a bass boost. They're also more comfortable over a long period of time than the 160s.

  • +1

    bugger!!!

  • Pity Dick is out of stock (the $174.50 deal has not expired, but the HIT20 $20 off deal has - now there is freaky Friday with 13% off, which would have been even better, $2.69 better, if they had stock).

FYI, Freaky Friday starts 13.13 and runs for 13 minutes!

  • Dammit, the one day I don't check ozbargain!!! :(

  • +1

Back In stock, price $174.50 plus shipping, home delivery only. Still a pretty sweet deal.

  • Has anyone received their dispatched email?

    • +1

      Yes

      • shrughs - no idea. I've received nothing, yet my payment has gone through fine.
