Might be worth testing them for polarisation/uv protection! if they aren't, just ask for a refund.

PS. I have no idea how to test for polarisation/uv protection

Semi easy way. Walk into a sunglasses store and try them on those ads they have in store for "see more with Polarised" or something similar. You should be able to see extra stuff in the image. Or take another pair you know are polarised and turn one pair in a circle in front of the lens, at one point you won't be able to see though it will be completely black.

Put them against an LCD monitor and turn it around?
Polarised sunglasses should darken at a certain angle. Not sure if this is for all polarised lenses though, but that's what it does on my old pair.

Just tried this with a pair and it definately works . The last pair of polarised sunglasses I got from AliExpress came with a polarization test card .

If you have another pair of polorised glasses (or just go to a chemist that has them), put one against the other then rotate one pair 90 degrees, should go dark.

Maybe just buy a Cancer Council approved pair for $30 and not worry about this cheap OS sh!t? Last I heard you only get given one pair of eyes.

        • +7

A guy I knew purchased some cheap OS sh!t, walked outside and his eyes burnt right out of his head. He didn't learn his lesson. Had a friend order him a long stick to tap on stuff so he could walk around, picked the cheap OS sh!t again walked outside lost his right arm. You only get given one right arm!!!!

He never learnt his lesson, we call him Russell in Autum and Bob when we take him to the beach.

I don't trust the UV ratings at ALL, with cheap sunnies. But who CAN be trusted??

      ACCC report:
Price Is Not An Assurance Of Safety
"Consumers cannot rely on price as an indicator of quality. Past enforcement experience shows that some very high priced sunglasses do not necessarily conform to the Australian Standard."

      Just one (of MANY) tests:

I was thought this is $1 3d movie glass :)

  • Wood? Looks like resin (with bamboo fibre) to me.
Good thing too, as real wood splits. I suppose some sort of plywood with lots of thin layers would be strong enough.

    • ALL sorts of amazing things can be done with "real wood". Boats hulls, musical instruments, sports equipment, construction materials. This shape is hardly a challenge.

If curious, search: Steam Bending, or Heat Bending.

Most of those use plywood, as I mentioned. Or heavy posts/beams fixed together in a composite structure.

The photo is clearly not natural bamboo, but a composite material.

        • Not most, at all. Real wood, with techniques from hundreds of years ago, product lacross sticks, violins, boat hulls… and countless other items. Ply isn't the answer to everything.
