Been on Boost's $40 prepaid plan for almost 2 years and can't fault it. Apart from the fact there's no 4G offering, Telstra's 4G network & coverage is second to none, and Boost's customer service is great. This $20 plan will suit many down to the ground. Begins March 31.
New Boost $20 Plan: Unlimited Text & MMS, 100 Call Minutes, 1GB Data on Telstra's 4G Network

Optus would be great if i get reception in my house! 1 bar if i stand at the door lol.
Depends who's at the door.
Here in Metro Melbourne Telstra (north east) coverage is crap. One bar at best and often no bars. Also Smart meter for electricity which uses Telstra always failing to send collect data. On the other hand Optus is 3 bars or better.
Why does your meter use the mobile network if you are in metro Melb?
Good deal. I'm on the monthly Optus unlimited txt, 200 minutes, 1.5gb of 4G data for $30 per month which is pretty good too :)
Me too except I pay $20/month with their $90 big home bundle
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/183688That would be so sweet. I think we are switching to Optus when our 24 month contract with Telstra ends next March. Thats a pretty decent saving though
That's so Soon, lucky the home bundle deals end early April;)
April fools' 1 month away too…
(Contracts? Bundling? :)
Is this the wholesale/reseller telstra network, or the full NextG?
They are owned by Telstra so you get the full Telstra service
Nice!
Nope, doubt they are owned by Telstra and you don't get 4G
No, you don't get 4G on a Boost SIM (But does get Next G as it's just 3G on the 850mhz spectrum). But if you ask Telstra nicely, they'll put your service on a Telstra SIM card and you get to use 4G. Had you put in the time to read the thread 'MOD: Personal attack removed', you would have seen I've mentioned this a few times already.
Unless Telstra are hiding it from the public, Boost isn't owned by Telstra either:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boost_Mobile
Not sure how many times this has been said, they are NOT owned by Telstra.
How come when you ring theyre telstraians? I rang once and got ''hello this is telstra' then 'sorry boost'.
how come you need a special sim to port to them (i believe you dont need a blank sim for say aldi to telstra but will stand corrected)They might have signed a deal or something, Boost not owned by Telstra can be determined by looking at the links "This Guy" provided. Additionally, Boost's about us page doesn't mention anything about them being acquired by Telstra. With Telstra's arrogance, I really don't think they would wanna hide the fact that something is owned by them. Additionally, if you know a bit about Australian broadband internet, you would probably know Belong, a Telstra owned budget provider - go to the bottom of their homepage, you can see "Belong is a division of Telstra Corporation Limited ABN 33 051 775 556". Not something you can see on Boost's page.
As for the sim question, I honestly don't know what you are trying to say, a bit more description would be appreciated. The only experiences I've had with porting were Vaya to Virgin, and Telstra to Aldi, and Aldi to Vaya. All of them required new sim cards to proceed.
@clse945111: Sim: Instead of getting a $2 store sim card, you need a special blank sim card with no phone number to port from Telstra to Boost and reverse.
Not arguing with you, but their fair play policy links to telstra's.
On a old sim pack I have, it says 'service provided by telstra corporation limited. In their t&csTERMS OF USE
BOOST UNLTDā¢ OFFER
Service provided by Telstra Corporation Limited ABN 33 051 775 556.
Your Boost Pre-Paid service is provided to you by Telstra Corporation Limited, ABN 33 051 775 556.But I have no clue if they're owned by Telstra.
@Food:
Right, but the info you provided all makes sense when the network is provided by Telstra, doesn't mean Boost is Telstra owned, just like you said.
and the SIM cards I get from Vaya show Optus USIM on them, maybe I should say they maybe owned by Optus as well? Lol…And regardless of whether we think Boost is a part/not a part of Telstra, at the moment only Boost and Telstra know the true answer, but from everything we can see on the internet… I personally don't think Boost is owned by Telstra.

Call Minutes. intriguing plans ( :Would boost sim card work on my windows nokia 530 which i got from woolies or is that phone only work on a telstra sim card?
Yep. I've done it before.
No MVNO works like Aldi though
$15/15 days UNLTD used to be perfect for those on centrelink payments.
What's the best plan for those on centrelink now?The best plan is to "go and get a job" - PM PK
Seriously though, there are options for monthly prepaid, but I understand that may be a lot harder to manage on limited Centrelink payments.
Talk less, lift more, lean less.
Employment Vacancy Analyst is a real job!
Is this why my service has been so spotty lately? All these new people joining BOOST? Had so much trouble sending SMS at various times of the day and random service blackouts.
Looks tempting. Did anyone else notice that excess data is charged at $2/MB (measured in KB increments)?
How can you ever be charged excess data? When you use up your quota, it just stops working.
Sorry, I should have been clearer. In the Add-On details as the PAYG rate. Wording is "Once you've used your Inc Data, you'll be charged the PAYG rate of $2/MB". So any add-on credit will quickly get used once you've finished your included data.
I remember years ago (over 10 years) a mate of mine was on a Telstra prepaid and he worked out that when his credit got down to 25c he would have that day to text as much as he liked as text credit was deducted at midnight each day.
All he had to do was make sure he didn't have less than the cost of a text in credit and he was set.(for a day).
I'm sure if Ozbargain was around back then that his hack would of been up there with the free cadbury bars hack for sure.
Sounds great, what happens with data after the 1GB is used up - stops or charged $/MB?
See my comment just above :)
See it, then ignore it :)
Tempted, currently on $30 Telstra Encore = 400GB data, $250 calls, but the free 6pm-6am period and being able to use the $30 for data packs or Android apps, with balance carry forward, just pips it for me.
400MB perhaps?
400GB
Where do I sign up?
Ooops, not used to talking in MB when it comes to quotas.
Yes its still better than way. plus you get 4G
3G only on a 4g phone just doesn't seem right. 1gb is jacksh!t too. I'd only think of getting if I lived in Timbuktu
1st rate picture messaging service for models with iPhones pointed at themselves,
possibly on Ayers Rock?
/or use case b maximum contactability on unlimited incoming calls.or perhaps just as gift to those on supported living pension, isolated communities
I'm more interested in this in-store telstra sim swap for 4G hack.. For people on boost currently.
Thanks. I am in TAS and network coverage is bloody important here. I am with Telstra prepaid but will switch to Boost in March. Less money for more.
I had entered a Telstra shop today with my existing Boost prepaid sim.
Hoping to get a Telstra sim and be on 4G network with Boost costs. She picked out it was not a Telstra sim straight away and questioned it.
I replied that my Boost sim is not longer working and asked, "can you please try to get me a Telstra one?"She was skeptical but tried anyway.
She then attempted twice to type my number into the system with no luck finding any information. No luck with the 4G hack for me. Please let me know if anyone succeeds in getting a Telstra sim on Boost plan.
Unsure if this works, but..
Walk in, say can I please have a regular /mini/ micro blank sim, walk out and do it online through live chat or ring up. It should work.i just requested telstra to mail me out a blank sim.
they confirmed ok.will try to activate upon receipt via boost prepaid.
but if i do walk past a telstra shop; i will try ask for a blank one tmrw.
keep you posted.
Any updates?
would it be the same as buying a $2 simonly?
No: You need a blank sim to port. You cant do this on a $2 sim
How is this plan compared to telechoice $20 plan? The only thing I don't like about telechoice is its extra charge for mms which sometimes are inevitable if they don't have WhatsApp etc.. Is boost's 3g network better than telechoice in general?
There are already plenty of comments here (and elsewhere) about that…
You're right.. Sorry..
Another question came to mind though, since it's prepaid, can you setup as auto recharge every 30 days, it would be a pain to have to remember to recharge everyday 30 dayscan you setup as auto recharge every 30 days
Yes.
Can someone please clarify if Boost to Boost calls are free ? I want to switch 3 numbers from Amaysim $19.90 plan to this plan but want free boost to boost calls.
There is nothing to suggest any calls are free on this new plan. Even 1800 calls are charged. Ridiculous.
Meh.. Then I better off just stick to telechoice.. At least I get to call my close family and friends for free..
Is boost to boost text & call free?
Are you serious?
Still rather stay with Telstra Pre Paid (e.g. Freedom)… $30 every 30 days gives:
Effectively 225 minutes (based on 50 calls/month)
Unlimited Talk & Text every night 6pm to 6am to standard Australian numbers (or a Telstra 24x7 option)
1850MB Data with 1.5 plus packs
LTE/4G
Full Next G Coverage
Ability to roll-over credit if you charge again within the 30 day period. How do you get 1850MB data with 1.5 plus pack? The offer I see on their website for $30 for Freedom prepaid is 800mb + a 500mb bonus at the moment.
You buy 1.5 x $20 700MB browse plus packs with your $30 real credit.
You cant do that anymore..
Depends, really. I am on the same plan and I don't make any calls. I do use data, but I would be better off, price wise, going with Boost because I get more data for only $20. I do understand why you prefer Telstra, but for those who don't spend much/make calls, I think this $20 boost looks good.
Anyone know if its possible to port from Telstra Prepaid to Boost? Are there issues?
also would this be the better plan to switch from Liveconnected $12 grand father plan? or Telechoice is better? this has no contract but Telechoice does
It's a better plan than TPG because Telstra is better than Optus
I got a couple of $40 starter packs half price at Coles. They scanned full price but there is an A2 or A3 sized flyer near the starter packs that mentions all SIM starter packs are 50% off, and the store manager honoured it, then promptly removed the sign.
Anyone wanting to get onto the $20 a month thing before the end of March can do the same. It clearly says at the bottom of the 50% off SIM Starter Packs sign that it also applies to Boost, along with a number of other carriers.
Guys 1800 numbers are meant to be free on Telstra resellers like Telechoice and Boost?
Or is it strictly only for Telstra prepaid customers?
Meant to be free for everyone…
