Citibank Platinum & Signature - 0% Transfers for 24 Months (Annual Fee Applies)

130

I know Citi don't have the best customer service, but 24 months is pretty sweet. Both cards have a $199 Annual Fee (Signature is usually $395) but their reward program is pretty decent too - 1.5 points/dollar for a non Amex card (no pesky surcharge on purchases). So if you were considering a card with points/annual fee anyway, why not get the 24 months balance transfer?

Save with 0% p.a. for 24 months on balance transfers¹. Reverts to cash advance rate.
A reduced annual fee of $199 in the first year, and $299 thereafter (usually $395 each year)²
Earn 1.5 Citibank reward points per $1 spent on eligible purchases in Australia
Earn 4 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases overseas
Earn unlimited points every year with Citibank's Rewards Program
Complimentary International Travel Insurance, Purchase Cover Insurance and more³

And best part of all is that they do send balance transfer as a cheque so you could use that money to your home loan or for any other expenses.

    • Really? I'm surprised it's that loose, particularly after the whole industry got slapped.

I'm curious about balance transfers with 2nd cardholders. Say, if I have a card (my name, but her account) then could I get a balance transfer? So I apply for a new account, and spread our debt over a year or two. Close her account.

      • if you have platinum card, you will have 6 months 0% balance transfer which can be increased by calling and asking for 12 months 0%. if its not under your name I think you should be able to apply for other platinum card for sure with 24 months 0%.

        • Sorry, I mean the current cards/account are with another bank.

      • on the back of the hand with a feather………

I have an existing card and my "special offer" is currently 2.9% BT for 24 months (originally was 0% for 6 months).

    • They might be targeted. I have a 0% for 12 months offer on mine

    • Check under the rewards section of your login. You might see a 0% 12 month option.

      • everyone got different. i had the 0% before, but now i got 2.9%.
maybe i should pay off my BT first and then they will change the offer to 0%? no idea

    • I have the 2.9% offer too. I just finished my second 0% balance transfer offer. Didn't know you can ask to extend the time; will do that the next time I get a 0% offer.

In regards to the OPs customer service comment, I thought I'd give my experience.
I've had a couple of cards with Citibank over the years and they have anyways had dismal customer service.
However, I recently got the free for life signature card and it seems when I call up I go to a different "premium" customer service team. When I first applied I was approved within about 2 hours of applying and didn't have to supply the usual pay documents etc. Now, I have called Citibank about a couple of issues since I've had the card and the customer service has been nothing short of excellent. Always solved my issues promptly, understood the problem fully the first time and with no accent/English communication issues. They are now probably my favorite bank to call. Fingers crossed my good run continues!

if you want trouble try Citibank - they do not return emails, phonecalls or anything. get the picture? if you want hassle go this way, because they don't do anything about anything even missing transactions.

    • What products have you had in the past? Did you have a signature card or other products targeted at higher incomes?

I had similar concerns/issues in the past but this recent signature card has had none of the usual Citibank customer service problems. Even the English ability of the person answering the calls every time is amazing. I feel there must be a separate call center for these types of cards.

the opposite, i got issue last time and they promise me to call at xx date yy time and yes they did! right to the dot. not just once but 2-3 times. plus at the end they give me 10,000 points to compensate the trouble.

well never me rang back, but more importantly refused to reply to emails which ran into the dozens………….

Guess somepeople tell the truth and others don't,and as for compensation Citibank don't do that - apart from a few points sometimes…..

Signature card is garbage, and the comments here are in my experience completely unbelievable.

Citibank are a troubled dishonest bank and I seriously advise people looking for good deals to stay well away.

the only way you will get redress from citibank is to get a lawyer who is honest - yeah impossible.

You accuse other OB members of lying about their review comments because they don't fit your own.
You say the signature card is rubbish without any reasoning or even confirming you've had the card.
You don't say when these problems occurred, don't comment on the possibility of a separate call center or a possible recent change in customer service policy.
You go on a rant about bank dishonesty and involving lawyers because they don't reply to your calls/emails.

No offence mate, but your starting to look like one of those "problem" customers. I probably wouldn't call you back either.

        • I was not ranting but you clearly are, so why?

I also haven't accused other OB members of lying.

Yes I have a signature card.

What recent changes - you seem very upset while introducing revisions to your original post because you have had all the cards over many years. Recent changes would excuse the worst performance from any financial institution I have ever seen? Why?

I have found over the years that the truth is a problem, and doubt you will ever understand this.

WWhy you ignore Citibank refusing to respond to emails and excuse this by introducing call centres is hardly honest is it?

@rolly2112: TBH I am with Citibank for 7 years….. Changed a lot of cards… BP 5% then low interest then 1% cash back n now signature…. I haven't had any problems as such….. My signature got delayed n the moment I squealed a bit I was offered 2000 points "for being a loyal customer"….

Sometimes it amazes me why people need contact banks so many times ? In past 7 years I might have contacted 12-15 times….

You're not exactly one for contact :P

Have been with them since 2008, all on free for life promotions .. Gold, Platinum, and moved to Signature recently.

Have called them numerous times, and done numerous balance transfers with them. Can't fault them for anything as yet, as others mentioned I rarely have to wait on the line and most issues are resolved with one call or a prompt call back.

      • Me about same period. Now have 5 accounts:- Citbank Plus, Citibank EK Mastercard, Citibank ReadyCredit, Citibank Diners Club, Citibank Signature. I have contacted them plenty of times, including to get a chargeback. My customer service experiences very good!! Touch Wood!!

  • I like "Keep track of your accounts with free email and SMS notifications."
    How kind of them!

  • This deal is still valid until Feb 28th

  • Interesting.. I have citibank platinum at the moment.. I have a 35k remaining on one of my mortgages. Wondering if I could get the 24 months 0% and pay that 35k off and then pay the 35k off over 2 years… would that work?

    • I don't think you can pay off a debt with a credit card.

    • +1

Citibank will give you "cheque to self" and so the only thing stopping you would be in getting a credit limit of $35K. Then I would just make the minimum repayments and put any excess into earning interest until the end of the 24 months, and then pay it out.

      • +1

They'll give up to 80% of your credit limit.

        • Oops! Yep. Forgot that.

  • I signed up to signature last year (free for life). I am now earning enough points to get $400/annum in woolworths gift cards.
Before signing up I worked out that putting $100 on the card earnt me about $1 in points. Now everything gets charged to the card, and I pay it off completely each month, and know I will get about 1% back.

For international charges I still found that the 3% fee outweighed any points earnt.. So for this I use my BankWest platinum card… But the extra cards make it hard to get a home loan (even if you owe nothing on them).
