These are great for power blackouts. Eight-hour tea lights are available, and while it doesn't give enough light to use as a light for reading, it does provide enough light that you can avoid your furniture when going from room to room.
Not suitable if you have young kids around - the sides are glass, and when in operation, the metal top gets VERY hot, easy to burn yourself. Much safer than an open candle, but you should still take precautions and put it somewhere safe. I put mine on a baking tray, in the middle of the dining-room table.
