      You mean Hikvision ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hikvision

I have 3 of the Hikvision cameras - 3 megapixel (~2000 x ~1500 pixels) - the indoor model has WiFi, microphone, and PIR motion sensor. I would say they would blow this out of the water..

But for $199 that sounds like an amazing price for an NVR with 4 cameras - so I vote it a deal.
My Hikvision setup would be better, but closer to $800 so big difference in price!

It won't compare anywhere near a Hikvision system. But a Hikvision 3MP varifocus 4-12mm camera will set you back ~$200 alone delivered from AliExpress (I have bought about 30 from there). Factor in the NVR ($200-350 depending model), HDD, cabling, you'll easily be over $1000 for 4 cameras, NVR, 1TB HDD. So the Aldi unit it 5 times cheaper.

Best thing about Aldi is buy it, test it for 60 days, don't like it, take it back (the only thing you've lost is your time). HikVision on the other hand will work out of the box, have awesome image quality, you can get things hikvision junctions boxes or odd mount types, has PC management software etc etc, but it will cost much more, but the Hikvision is still excellent value for money for what it is.

    • I don't think these are NVR's….

I think the 960H implies that these are all analogue cameras. That is, it has the capability to run 700TVL cameras. The supplied cameras generally wouldn't be higher than 500 TVL at this price.

      • Actually, 960H is 720p (HD) with extra horizontal lines to make it a 3:4 ratio (960x1280) instead of 16:9 (720x1280).
So that's 1280 TVL - Definitely higher than 500TVL, but not as high as Full HD (1080p - 1080x1920), or 3MP (1920x1440 from memory).
Still a bargain when it's available!

Security Camera resolution used to be hopeless, but cameras are getting better and cheaper. I refused to consider security cameras until they got to VGA (640 x 480), but have just ordered the Kogan 8 channel NVR set with 4 x 3MP Cameras, which I will supplement with cheaper 960H cameras.

Can someone please post the link direct to the item?

    • There's a way to see specials by adding the full date to the URL, ie aldi.com.au/date or similar for example.

      • +1

You cant do that now. I know you use to be able to, but I think they caught on

These are great! Just remember to steal the hdd when you Rob the house to leave no video evidence!
The cloud is for paranoid wimps

    • +2

Why bother. The resolution is so crap you could do a naked dance in front of it and they still would not be able to define your sex.

      • +1

Speak for yourself. If I did a naked dance in front of it they would know!

        • -1

          Because the camera would break?

      • +2

Normally my naked dancing in front of cameras gets blurred out for those police to shows anyway.. So this would kind of be saving them effort

      • Don't worry, it's not the size that matters, it's how you use it :)

  • Hey guys and gals
Can anyone recommend where to get a cctv system installed?
I'm wanting an 8 camera system for my shop.
Have been shopping around but am finding everything too expensive.

    • If lots of places have quoted you a certain price (and above), it sounds like that is the bottom market price.

For example (and these are just numbers off the top of my head) if you have been quoted $2800, and $2850, and $3100, and $3300, but you feel anything more than $1500 is "expensive", then your expectations of price do not meet the Australian market - or you happen to have chosen expensive places and need to get more quotes.

You either need to adjust your price expectations, or look for ways to source the gear cheaper.

My suggestion - buy a 16 or 32-channel NVR and 8x 3 Megapixel POE cameras (Hikvision brand) from one of the recommended sellers on AliExpress and then pay a licensed cabler to run the cables for you.

The cost for the Hikvision NVR and 8 cameras, should be around $1500 including fast DHL delivery and exchange rate.
Might be $500-ish (and a case of beer) for the network cabling (no power required as the NVR powers the cameras over the CAT5/6 cable).

All the info you need, including recommended models, AliExpress shops that many Aussies have bought from, and how to mount the cameras etc are all in the thread below.

    • Hi,

      1) Installation cost is likely to be the biggest cost. If you're not much of a DIYer, I'd suggest paying a little extra for Wifi cameras - no network cabling but you still have to get power (usually DC 12volt) to the cameras.
      2) Check out the Kogan specials on now.
      3) Try Alibaba - I've been getting quotes, and am currently looking at the fixed IP camera the TL-B18IP fixed IP bullet camerafrom http://tollarcctv.en.alibaba.com/ - 960h cameras US$25 for 3.6mm lens, or US$26 for 6mm Lens. 1080p are about US$42.
You then have to allow for exchange rates, international transaction fees from your bank, and freight.
      4) If you go with wifi you'll need to do your own research. Give Detailed Request For Quote - e.g my RFQ for 720p IP Bullet security camera:

      Quantity required: 8
      Type: Colour
      Minimum resolution 720P (1280 x 720) @ 25fps
Minimum 90 degree horizontal field of view (without panning).
      Onvif support
Operational up to 90% Relative Humidity
      Weatherproof
      Price less than USD35 each.
For 5 star feedback and efficient communication please address ALL the above in your quote,
plus shipping cost (cheapest insured option) for the cameras to (suburb) NSW (postcode) , Australia.
If you require additional details please specify what information you require.

When you get the quotes don't be put off if the minimum order quantity is 500 or 10000 - often the first order is treated as a sample and has no MOQ.

      Hope this helps.

  • It doesn't say anything about the cameras? If it's a low resolution like 480tvl, it's not very much worth it.
comparing to this 720tvl on ebay, i rather invest a little bit more for a better picture quality.
