Some good deals for Malaysia Airlines. Various dates (including for travel this week!) and I'm sure other Australian cities available also. All fares include meals and 30kg luggage so this is competitive and sometimes cheaper than AirAsiaX and other LCC's.

You can find it a few dollars cheaper on some other third party sites.

  • Seems to be a good price but I cannot see a range of dates or promotion on their website.

    • Can't either but searching random dates in the next few months I can see the fares.

I don't know why you got downvoted. It is poor regulations.

    • +13

A news.com.au article based on one "expert" who likes to tell the media his view. This is how good companies go bust - because the media makes money from criticism.

Does the regulation cover surface-to-air missiles?

I have flown MAS many times, including the MH17 route. They are a good company which has been very unfortunate.

        • +15

Are we talking about MH17 ? Do you know that Thai Airways and SIA were flying using same route as MH17? Check it out at FlightRadar24.

After "sh*t" happened, EVA Air, Thai, SIA were avoiding that area.

        • An answer only the pupper regime in Kiev can answer as MA were instructed to change course…join the dots on why.

      • -1

wonder if the flight inspectors would recommend equipping civilian planes with anti missiles

  • Damn, just bought business class scoot for not much more.
Would probably prefer flying with MAS, I have always found them to be good in the past.

I believe the numbers quoted by OP are excluding taxes
I can see 586 SYD-KUL return in the raw numbers (308.72+275.92), but comes to 764 (399.22+366.42) after taxes are added.
checked mid Feb return mid Apr

    • No, some dates are more expensive. You can find dates for those prices tax inclusive

      • example?

          Feb 19-26

        • well, quite right you are. I didn't look so close to now!
interesting that if dates are changed Feb 19, rtn Apr 20, that the 'economy promo' fare column disappears from the Feb 19 flight.

Seems to be for 'last minute' flights only

          this site: http://www.lastminute.com.au/international-flights/malaysia-…
reveals latest you can depart SYD is about 20/2, returning 13/3

If you can find such cheap flight then you should combine with the STA travel deal for extra $50 off using MH50 promo code.

  • NVM, found the date range for Melbourne from the lastminute link :)

  • +3

Qatar Airways often have good value flights from KL to Europe if anyone wants to extend their holiday to another continent. Eg. KUL-Paris CDG on Feb 24 for $774 could potentially make a Europe return flight with Malaysia stopover as low as $1303 from Melbourne (using the STA coupon for the MH leg).

    • +2

Still expensive for Europe. Using the same dates as yours, skip this deal and fly Scoot SYD-SIN $189 and then book Etihad SIN-LHR;DUB-SYD $726.

      All up $915.

      • Good find, unfortunately that fare is now $429 and I'm guessing being a budget airline doesn't include meal service or baggage?

        • Quite a few dates available for the $189 SYD-SIN fare if you're flexible. But yes, just for the one way Scoot ticket you'll need to add baggage, food and whatever else you need, though the Etihad multi city combo will have everything included.

  • +1

    booked

  • How are you getting it for $586? I'm getting $1500+

  • Is it easy to change things with the bookings with STA travel (if needed)? There also appears to be a $19.95 booking fee with them…is this correct?

    • Booking with STA is easy. Try to change or correct anything is a "pain". Email response is extremely slow. Anyone had experience with them.

  • What were the deleted comments? About MH370?

    • +1

      Yup.

"Can I use MH370 to get $370 off? HURRDURR I'm so smart I turned a tragedy into a joke!!"

      Grow up.

      • +1

The only joke was the numptie that said it originally

      • -1

Did you know that comedy can be used to overcome tragedy? Not everyone cries at funerals.

    • +1

The first was about poster questioning whether the return trip will happen. Tongue in cheek comment.

      • +1

Still not in good taste however.

    • Coverup. And Ozbargain are in on it.

  • Most dates are sold out. Thanks OP

Last time I flew Malaysian one of the toilets broke which put more pressure on the others. Not such a bad thing but I didn't find this out until a few beers had gone down. That and it was around this time the curry laksa had worked its way through and wanted to say goodbye, Right now!

    Would fly again

    • +2

Maybe it was a curry laksa (not yours, obviously) that broke the toilet ;)

  • -8

I had thought that Malaysian airlines went bust…

    • You thought wrong.

    • -4

Not the airline, just the planes

    • U mean burst?

      • at 30000ft?

    • I thought the Malaysian govt had stepped in to bail them out

      • Yeah govt stepped in.

  • -1

as good as this deal is, I am too scare to flight air malaysia.

  • Lenovo don't honour a pricing error, and people hate. Malaysia scores three fatal crashes within a few months, and people look to the side. What gives? Btw Im still flying air asia

    • +1

Looks like you answered your own question

      • -2

No I didn't. Lenovo still offers good deals every now and then, but the ozbargain hivemind says no. Why?

  • Thanks for sharing OP.

  • -1

Which third crash are you talking about

    • +1

Not a third MA crash, as I think you were thinking. AirAsia Berhad (AKA AirAsia) is a Malaysian airline. The third crash was Indonesia AirAsia Flight 8501 into the Java Sea. Indonesia AirAsia is only 49% owned* by AirAsia Berhad, so whether you can say the plane that crashed was Malaysian is open for debate.

*Indonesia's laws disallow majority foreign ownership of domestic civil aviation operations.

  • Room for one more?

  • -2

    "expired Malaysia Airlines"

    yep they sure are
