I've been waiting this since I missed out on the last one. Although my wallet can't afford the new wireless version, I'm still tempted to import : ( decisions decisions!

Edit: @jv its rrp is overpriced $399 but you could get off other sites n ebay around 250+

  • +3

Wow. Great price, and incredible timing. My Creative aurvana live 2 just broke half an hour ago (after 3 weeks of use!!), so I need a replacement.

Imagine my surprise to see the Momentum Over-ears at their lowest price ever of $179!

$283+shipping is cheapest at staticice, 192.74USD shipped from amazon (~250AUD).

    Review of these headphones: http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/very-adult-sennheiser-m…

    • Very good headphones. I imported mine from amazon es a few years back for over $200. At this price, anyone who can afford and wants a good headphone should get a pair. Unless you have very big ears.

  • Anyone know how these compare to the Audio Technica ATH50x?

    • +1
      • Thank you. I ordered one pair. I was going to go for the ATH50x but for the same price the Momentums seem to be the best choice.

        • Not a same level. Momentum in s way better than ath50

        • +2

I agree the Momentums are better, but it was hard to justify picking them over a m50x when they were double the price, but now that they are the same price I can easily recommend then over a m50x.

Plus they are more portable and better looking than the m50x.

    • These are a lot better.

  • +10

keep in mind they just about to release momentum 2 over ear, although this is the best price ever…..

  • They were $139 yesterday for like 2 hours.

    • +3

Are you sure that wasn't the on ear ones?

      • +1

Oops yes you're right, my mistake.

    • +1

Yeah that was the On-Ear Ones & they are still that price

      • The over ear headphones were $179 though.

Just picked mine up a couple of hours ago. Great birthday present to myself.

They come in a massive box and have a nice sturdy case. Looking forward to giving them a go.

  • How do you know it's the over-ears and not on-ear?

  • Normally around 250-300$ so it's a good buy :)

FYI they were around $300+ in Dec 2013 and $200 in Dec 2014

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174809

  • good deal! probably the best headphones (imo) around this price :)

  • +5

Little put off by the reviews stating that these are not true over ears, as they are on the small side. People overlook the comfort factor when buying headphones, but it should be on the top of the list. I have the m50 and momentum on ears , and both are not very comfy for more than 20 minutes.

    • +1

      From a review at InnerFidelity:
      http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/very-adult-sennheiser-m…

my ears are just slightly smaller than average, which is 65mm from top to bottom. The inside dimensions of the Momentum earpads are 50mm X 35mm. That means there's 15mm of something that's got to give. Fortunately, while the outside of the ear cushions are leather, the inside circumference if the ear cushion is made of a very stretchy fine mesh knit fabric covering the soft memory foam that does provide quite a bit of give to accommodate the ear within the cushion. For me it was cozy, but very, very comfortable. But I have heard from many others online that claim the pads simply do not accommodate their ears, and who returned the Momentum due to poor fit.
To summarize: the Momentum is a very light and comfortable headphone, but they must be adjusted carefully, and your ears can't be too much larger than average size (70mm top to bottom is probably the max size ear for these headphones).

      • I have big ears unfortunately.

        • I think the Sennheiser HD 598 is $147 on Amazon.. ( $183AUD) for those with big ears

    • +1

I agree, the ear cup isn't that big. I have a relatively small ear and it just barely cover my ear without too much leeway.

    • +1

yep my ear just fits the cup and feels somewhat borderline uncomfortable

    • There are two distinct models, an on-ear and over ear.

      See the difference

I was disappointed when I found an on-ear on sale and it didn't look like the pic in the review.

      • -1

Yes, aware of that. We were talking about the over ears

  • WHAT COLOUR SHOULD I GET!??

serious question though, i've been stuck thinking what colour to get since 2hrs ago

    • Check availability of each. That may eliminate some choices.
Otherwise, get the brown version. Original colour and retro. :P

    • It took me about 10 minutes to choose between ivory or brown and I go for the brown :)

    • I purchased the brown one about 2 years ago. Very stylish and classy looking. The black one is made to rival beats with the red cord. They are excellent headphones, especially if you are into dance/electronic tunes. Very fun to listen to.

  • does anyone know if there's a place in brisbane that have this that i can try on? i've tried jb hifi/ HN/ Myer/ DJ at Garden City Westfield and none of them have the momentum to try.

the price is very tempting and i almost purchase the ivory colour yesterday, the only thing that held me back was the report that the earpiece is small (more on-ear) and uncomfortable to use for long period of time. other than that the sound was top notch and extremely well made.

    • +1

      edit:

tried the brown one at jb albert st, the sound was one of the best around. the earcup was small though, i don't think i can wear this for more than 1hr (my ear size is small-med size). i also tried the bose soundtrue and sound is probably 80% of the momentum, but extremely comfortable and i reckon i can wear them up to 3-4hrs.

      +ve vote for the price.

  • Looks like black is out of stock. Bought ivory instead. Would it work if I left it unopened and then exchanged it instore when black comes back in stock?

  • Black still available @ SYD- Miranda & SYD- Blacktown Westpoint But pretty much sold out everywhere else but a few other odd places I'm sure :)

    • Why not check JB HiFi stock for price match?

      • i've already placed an order for delivery…
Don't they have to check if Dicksmith has stock?
If they don't, is it too late to cancel my order and go to a JB hi-fi?

  • -3

    They're only $170USD at Amazon…

    • Could only see for ~$200. You're free to buy it from there but I guess you haven't seen our dollar lately. Also this local stock with local warranty and service. But Amazon does have great warranty support.

    • +2

      Right…. USD 170 = aud 215 >> aud 179.

Would buy these if I didn't buy the on-ear momentums already.

  • For anyone who has these, I understand they are great for music but are they any good for movies and games? Love the look of them!

    • Great for music means great for everything else.

  • soooo been waiting for this, thanks. Ordering now.
Dammit, Sold Out in TAS. Oh well, I can handle the extra $10 for delivery.

  • Can anyone give some advise on the on ear ones? I've had a few types of headphones in the past (all over ear) but after prolonged use (30+mins) my ears get hot. I am a bit concerned about the on ear ones pushing down my ear and being uncomfortable as well..

  • Try JB. Had luck this morning with a price match. :)

  • Got it a few days ago! Best headphones I ever used. Ear pads are a bit small, but i have small ears so it's not a problem for me (you have to try em on first just to be safe). Looks and sounds awesome for the price. Wanted the ivory, but settled for brown :)

edit: actually almost got the on ear ones which was posted here ~2 weeks ago for 79 bucks…

  • I went out to buy a pair of these in July 2013. I went to buy them and only because I was hounded by a friend to try the B&W P5's, I tried them. After a couple of songs I changed my decision and bought the P5's. I could go into all sorts of detail but there will always be someone to counter it. In my opinion these sounded alot better. And that's coming from a point where I had made my mind up after reading reviews and was set on the momentums. I did not have an issues with Cup size or it been tight on my head. It was all about the sound.

I still have the P5s and I love them. I use them for my PC everyday and expect to use them for a lot longer. The only problem is after having had a good pair of headphones is the cheaper ones sound like crap.

Each to their own, but I would suggest listening to a pair before forking out the money. A good price for these none the less.

    • I agree that everyone has their personal taste in sound.
Some like boosted bass, such as in B&W P5, and some don't like boosted bass.

  • Picked up 2 pairs price matched at modbury jb hifi after much pain with sales people and manager. Confirmed over phone they would PM, then after sending mrs over to pick up they tried on selling her the on ear momentums and confusing her. She held her ground and won the day though.

    • well they had to try haha gd on ur missus

  • mine came in the mail today and when i opened it it was brown instead of a black one i ordered. the box shows a black model on the front so i assumed it was the correct one except on the side it shows a brown one? (so confusing) reckon they'll let me swap?

Under article no.10 from their Online Returns Policy

Incorrectly ordered or supplied Online Goods can be returned but must be unopened. Please retain your invoice as proof of purchase.

I predict their staff would quote this but I'm pretty sure i have a fair case since the packaging is highly misleading (perhaps contact ACCC if they refuse to let me exchange/refund?) what would you guys do?

    • I would think your invoice should show Sennheiser Momentum Headphones - Black @ $179. So if the actual item they sent you is brown, then they must swap it for you. Their policy cannot override consumer law because it is not what you ordered.

    • if you are in Melbourne or Adelaide in the couple of weeks, I will swap with you. PM me

  • Deal updated with today's code TWENTY which brings item down to $159 temporarily.

    • Thanks for the update. Any chance this could be featured on the front page so more people are aware?

      • Good suggestion, deal has been highlighted on front page now. Thanks

  • I have tried these cans yesterday and they sound great. Way better than Parrot Zik. Although I found ear caps are a bit smaller for my mid size ears. Not sure how long I could wear them comfortably but for 15 minutes they fell ok. Hence I really want to get bluetooth with ANC I will be waiting for wireless Sennheiser Momentum that has been released just now and expected to hit stores mid February. The new model has slightly bigger ear caps that should be much more comfortable to wear. For those one who doesn't care about cable and doesn't need ANC - I reckon they are one of the best on the market especially for that price.

    • Local stock will be available around the end of March.

      • And price is looking to be US$499!

  • I don't know why I try some song with beats studio and this momentum, I feel the beats is better :( . is it my ear have a problem?

    • +1

My comment above also relates to Beats.
As long as you try different headphones, get whichever you prefer. Don't be swayed too much by reviews and other people's opinions. You're the one listening to the music (or movies etc.)

    • +2

Beats are good for only bass. These Momentums are balanced headphones good for all types of music or other audio use.

But sound is subjective. If you find that you enjoy the beats more for the kind of music you're listening to, then return/sell the momentum.

      • Do you thinks dicksmiths let me return it? They said no change of mind on their policy

        • You can try, might be hard tbh :(

Maybe you will be able to resell them for cost price at gumtree or ozbargain listings.

  • Oh geez… $159…

  • Doh! Just collected mine. They tried selling me additional 2 yr warranty for $45.

  • A great choice for smartphone warriors, won't be for Hi-Fi, but is a versatile headphone.

    • I beg to differ. They're actually quite good mid-range headphones, recommended by audiophiles as well.

      • I didn't think that was the case when I tried it, ran really well from my phone or dinky MP3 player but didn't do well on my larger headphone amp. The 18ohm rating is pretty self-explainatory.

Of course you may like the tune.

  • -7

I just don't understand how could any headphone justify its price of being over $200. Any head phone should really cost no more than $200 as it so cheap to make, headphones now days have to many gimmicks.

Realistic prices for earphones should be $5-$99, and headphone $20-$199, these hungry companies can charge whatever they want as long as idiots are willing to pay for the brand name, and they comes with useless features which markets up the price.

    iPhones are the best example.

    • +1

Yes and no? One of the oldest model still sold by Sennheiser is HD600, it is highly regarded etc etc. That headphone costs around $400 (Well when I bought it, I bought it for 400 AUD ish) and I don't think that headphone is gimmicky. Its design is not flashy, the box it came in had horrendous stench that I hated. I love the headphone because it sounds amazing.

If you put material costs as the only factor in price, then I do see where you are coming from. Even though some companies use materials that are costly, even though there probably is cost attached to factories as well, I think the margin on headphones are huge if you only look at those.

But if you start looking at tuning and other stuff, I think pricing on headphones are reasonable. How a headphone sounds is usually a result of tuning, researches and countless hours put in by the engineers. Of course, there are companies that don't do what I've said. To them I think your comment is completely justified.

    • You should see the manufacture process for the Momentums, hand constructed in Germany, rigorous testing process

    • lol i guess the Sennheiser HD800 and AKG K1000 headphones the sound engineers use are all "gimmicks" which cost $1500+ that took years to develop.

your Realistic price for a Lamborghini would be $50k at wholesale materials cost i guess instead of $400k+ including development and labor. do you run one of those clone China factories that doesn't do R&D?

  • I have the model below these which looks the same but is slightly smaller.
They are simply awesome headphones and come with a sturdy suede like/reinforced case too, with volume controls on the cord.
    100% recommended.

  • Thanks OP, got 1 for $159 C&C. Awesome deal!

  • Great bargain thanks!

  • Anyone know of any in Sydney?

    Black or Ivory?

    • Try these 2 SYD- Miranda & SYD- Blacktown Westpoint

      • Do you like guys kissing you because right now ….

        • was it still available ?

        • yeah, picking them up since miranda closes at 6

        • @marka: Awesome :)

        • +1

Oooft, sold out at both stores.

        • @marka: Boooo :(

        • @TRENT86:

          After i bought mine :)

        • @marka: Oh ok well that's alright then lol

  • I'm in the market for a new pair of headphones given my Sennheiser PXC 450's recently died (well the noise cancellation feature did at least..) these just might be the ticket..

Edit: Actually went to buy them, but cant find any stock in Melbourne. Too slow :(

  • The $10 shipping cost (depends on locatin) isn't charged when using paypal as the payment method

    • I thought so too, but upon checking my account balance, it actually included the $10 shipping fee in the payment deduction.

      • Ahh, i see.

  • are these any good when trotting around on a treadmill or bike?

    • I ask the question because I find in/on ear headphones to be uncomfortable.

  • thanks OP.
