Nice find, lowest I could see for this was $198.

Btw, the Epson website looks straight out of Y2K!

  • I have got the 3530 for a year now and love it, very cheap to run too.

    • how much to you spend on ink cartridges?

      • To be honest i never buy originals, after market ones are under $10.- shipped for a whole set (4)

        • hmm ebay

how stable is the colour? like truly not smudge proof?

i'm wanting to use it as archival prints for say accident damage work

        • @tonyjzx:

I only use it for documents, haven't printed any photos with it. Si far i have had no problem with the ink, as good as the original was IMHO.

        • ehh for $150 i'm sold

i was waiting for a colour laser but this is close enough

i still have bw lasers for normal work but for $10 carts… what can go wrong

        • great was hoping that after markets would be compatible. I found 20 cartridges for $32 on ebay

        • found them also..

        • @AMLagonda: haha I tried to but Ozbargain blocks links? just type 'epson ink 138' and sort by best match. should be the top one

        • @spiderbite88: cheers lol I thought that might be the case :)

        • @spiderbite88: It only blocks referral or affiliate links.

Just for reference, was cheaper here after cashback. Obviously that deal is gone, so current deal is still pretty good.

    • Even at ~33% cheaper, it only had 12 up votes…

    • I bought one for $200.05 on ebay, and claimed $100 cash back. It is a really good machine. The prints are very sharp and very fast. Wireless printing and scanning is a breeze. Just put it anywhere with a power outlet, no printer cables required. The starter ink lasts quite a bit, I think it might be the full sized ink cartridges.

  • Cool didnt realize it was wireless, I hate inkjet but I really need a scanner (that works with win7-8 :/ )
and having a wireless scanner and printer makes it a good deal and I can put it anywhere in the house.

    • it sounds to me like they have their inkjet problems largely licked

      • it has fax
      • duplex print and scan
      • dual tray
  • Dammit I just dropped $180 for the WF-3620 a couple days ago! Argh…

Although the 3620 does print faster, I could have used the 3540's dual paper trays. Oh well…

    • I also only picked up a 3620 3 days ago (On Saturday)
Though I got mine for $139 :) (after harvey norman cash back)

  • finding it hard to resist….
someone say something bad about this printer!

  • can someone confirm i can still print black and white if one of the colour cartridge runs out? or once one run out we need to replace all?

    or put this way:
can i just buy black cartridge (no colours) and print b&w?

    • +2

I don t think you can unfortunately, it will prompt you to replace the colour one first and say out of inks…
I got another older model though.

      • thats what i hate about colour printers

    • response from epson

Thank you for contacting Epson Support.
For all Epson inkjet printer, if one of the ink is out or empty, the printer will not let you print and even scan or copy. The printer will go to a protective mode. Where it will be protecting the nozzle of the empty cartridge from getting clogged up. The only way for this printer to be up and running again is by replacing the empty cartridge.

Possibly just mine but the wireless printing and scanning is honestly a pain in the ass, have to fiddle with it almost every time I want to use it.

ah just realised this is inkjet..

I posted a deal of this printer 1.5 years ago (Link), it was only $100 shipped then…
nontheless, this printer is pretty good, wifi probably needs improvement as sometimes it needs to be restarted to get wifi working again.

    • I got it from your post and had epson cash back for $30, so got my printer for $30 :)

It may be the cheapest price, but it is not a good deal. No, I didn't neg.

The WF-3540 may carry an RRP of 300, but it's newer model that has a better ink efficiency is $198 at office works - WF-3640.

WF-3540 uses 138 DuraBrite ink $25 and has a yield of 820 pages, so about 3 cents per page. 15ipm
WF-3640 uses 254XL which is $60 and has a yield of 2200 pages, so about 2.7 cents per page. 19ipm (faster). Physical buttons for basic functions.

    • Thought this was an old model printer as I couldn't see the WF-3540 listed in the Epson 2014 Product Range Guide only the newer WF-3640.

      • sorry, typo. I mean "the newer model" being the WF3640. I bought one for the office. We print a combination of b/w and coloureds, and so far, it is the best printer we've used. Previously we had a couple of lasers from canon and samsung, and a few other Epson ink-jets.

I have this lemon sitting here as a scanner, word of warning do not buy a CISS from mir aus to use with it.
Heads get blocked within a few weeks with no warranty and essentially a waste of $400.

    • I have a Rihac CISS with it. Works well!

      • Thanks for letting me know, how long has it been in use for?
I won't go back to mir-aus. They harassed me to leave a review of their product before I even had a chance to use it, obviously wanted positive feedback before it ruined my printer.
I bought a replacement 3520 to make use of the CISS - that got blocked within a month as well, painful experience.

        • Used for 12 months +. The printer sometimes does not recognise the yellow cartridge - not sure why.

I leave it on standby now as I have to turn it on/off and fiddle with the yellow cartridge to reset the error code.

    • Based out of MElbourne, I have installed RIHAC CISS since day 1. Its been atleast 15 months. Just last week got refillable inks. Basically I print everything :)

  • Incidentally $180 should be the standard price for this (not $300), Epson has yearly cashbacks around this time which would bring it to $140.

  • I am looking for scanner, this is interesting to me.

  • Out of stock now :( I was looking to buy this specific model for last few weeks so gutted that I missed out..

Edit: Apparently the one was looking at before was WF3640, not this one.

  • I was about to spend about $150 for ink for My HP 8500A now thinking I should just buy a new printer instead?

Looks like the ink for this printer is cheaper but also does way less pages per cartridge.

Tried cheap apparently compatible ebay ink but it refused to work in my printer.

  • thank you picked one up earlier today.

  • Mine is here and setup, looks nice, colour photo I printed wasn't too flash but still alright.
