*Using Qantas Frequent Flyer points to redeem.

Using 15,000 points for a $100 Myer or JB Hi-Fi Digital gift card as a guide, Qantas Store is currently offering the Dyson DC59 Animal with Bonus Toolkit valued at $99 for 66,000 points, and 61,000 points, making it $440 and $410 respectively by my quick calculations.

I think your valuing of QQ points will be very different to others here. 60,000 points can get you a lot more then $400 of value.

what would you value them at? i have approximately 200,000 points and although hubby keeps saying we will go on a holiday we never actually book anything (it is difficult with his work being very ad hoc). I was just going to get gift cards with them as that is something we will actually use and not something we would be getting that we would otherwise not have gotten, if that makes sense.

      • I can't take advantage of much else but gift cards, so the bargain was from my point of view, and may assist those in a similar situation.

Hmmm how is this a deal with a *
Anyone who doesn't collect QF points can't exactly get this for $440 or $410
I think your title needs to read something around the lines of Dyson DC59 Animal + Bonus Toolkit for xxxx points (approx $xxx when calculated) or something like that

Considering you can use 280000 points for a round the world in business class (plus around $1100 in taxes) you are getting around a $11000 air fare for 280k plus $1100. That's putting a points value of 3.5c per point.

Your valuation is $0.007 per point. Not a good use of points imho.

There are also around the world fares in economy for 140,000 points plus $600-800 in taxes which are still a far better use of points (around a $4k air fare)

    • Off topic for this thread, but do you have details of where this economy round the world fare can be found and booked? I can't see any reference to it on the Qantas site.

      • Technically there are two types available, one is RTW and one is 35,000 miles, which can be better then RTW anyway. They are called a Oneworld Explorer Fare (RTW) and a Qantas Oneworld Classic Award (35,000 miles).

Each fare has different rules for the itinerary. I suggest you start to visit some of the frequent flyer forums if you wish to educate yourself as they have threads dedicated to the topic and the information available is extensive.

Qantas don't advertise the fact very much as they would rather you spend your hard earned points on vacuums and gift cards. You can see some of the fare rules halfway down the page here:

Good deal for those who don't book fares or upgrades with points - which, as derbies mentions, is a far better use of points

However there are those who have points, but book travel with cheaper and better airlines - so this is a great use if you prefer to use them for shopping

We have worked out at $300 for 25000 which is one way flight from Honolulu to Las Vegas and how we will most likely use ours. Equates to 0.012 cents per point. Using domestically in the USA is the best value.

Agree, a few days ago I used 8000 points + US$5.60 taxes instead of paying about US$220 for a US domestic flight. That's 1 point = 2.75 US cents

How did you manage to book US domestic flights? can't seem to do it online… call centre maybe?

        • Online, you play a charge if you do it over the phone

        • when doing a flight search and entering the 'From' city, theres a floating box, where you can select the city.

Tick the box 'Show Qantas and Partner Classic Award Cities' and now you'll be able to search lots more routes that Qantas doesn't get even close to flying!

        • @quackster: you can't seem to select a US city as from.

      • Yes if you can get a special it is even better, plus you fly AA which is usually much more expensive. I was working out on the cheapest flight I could find

I get about 1 point per $1 I spend… So this vacuum cleaner would cost me $66,440… That's pretty well full retail for a dyson isn't it??

  • Not really a bargain.
For 60,000 points I can get a return air ticket from Qantas at any time in the year, so it ranges around $800-1500 of value right there.

QFF points is never worth it to redeem with items, best used to redeem flights or upgrade flights.
