Free your data from iTunes

iMazing backs up your iPhone or iPad to your Mac or PC, so you’ll never lose data again! Either manually back up when you wish, or set iMazing to back up every time a particular device is connected, you’ll never have to worry about losing data when updating or upgrading your phone.

iMazing gives you a much greater degree of control over your backed up data from your iPhone or iPad than iTunes does. It’s a great way to micromanage your disk space without sacrificing any data.

Does this allow backing up to NAS?

Stupid question, why would I use this over iTunes?

    • I was wondering the same thing. I'd have imagined most people would be best serviced by backing up the entire device anyway for local backups, so having control over what gets backed up isn't overly important unless you are limited for hard drive space.

There are people that loathe iTunes so perhaps they're the main target.

      • My iTunes backup is useless for me. For some reason it encrypts all my iPad backups with a password which I don't know what it is. So I can back up, but just not ever restore from those backups. I have been in touch with Apple and they are not able to help me, nor is the internet, as there are many other people with this problem. Apple says I must have set a password at some stage in my iTunes, but there's even a box to tick to encrypt backups which isn't ticked and it still password protects them.

So this program is a GODSEND for people like me

That sounds like a drag. Too bad you don't know the password…encrypted backups are actually sort of handy and I'd probably recommend them normally since additional information gets backed up…you don't need to manually restore passwords to wifi networks and accounts for example, and Health data won't be backed up unless you encrypt the backup.

For Windows I'd delete iTunes and any trace of it from the registry and reinstall and hope that helps. Not sure whether there's any way to completely baseline the application on a mac. I imagine deleting the iTunes directory where the library files are doesn't do the trick?

        • @Smigit: thanks Smigit. Will try that (am on a Windows PC). I'm hoping that the password thing doesn't cross-pollinate to other PCs - hopefully it was just a particular PC-specific thing and if I do the backup on another PC I don't get that problem.

Hang on - this is the Apple help desk forum, isn't it? :)

        • @shmahoo: Good luck. You might even be able to log into a different user profile on the same PC and have a go. I'm not sure where the settings reside that's causing the issue but it might possibly be something associated with your user profile that won't impact other users.

I presume this allows better access to info than iTunes.

Also, I have tried to download this, but can only download the Mac version of a .dmg file, which isn't that useful for my Windows PC

I have emailed their support team and wait for any suggestions from them or you guys…

Edit - they emailed me back with the link www.imazing.com/download - and just use the licence cods they give you when you sign up

Does this backup the app data/documents as well and restore without loss of data?
I say this as iTunes backup the apps, and the data for the app is often not restored and that's annoying.

I used to use this when it was still called DiskAid. It was fantastic - it allows full manual backup of all your iphone notes, messages, contacts etc.
My main use was archiving my devices before I sell them. It's fun to go back and read through messages from 5 years ago to see how much of an idiot you were.

I was really close to paying for the upgrade from diskaid to iMazing just a few days ago. Perfect timing OP!

  • Do you get this straight away or have to wait for their facebook page to get 40,000 likes?

    • Straight away. The 40000 likes is for getting mailbox included in the $14.95 bundle listed here

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/178926

This can be obtained independent of that bundle deal - its just that the link is found on the deal page.

      • Thank you. I'll give it a go then. After Udemy's failure to fulfil when we "liked" their page I am cautious.

  • Looks like you need to have the latest version of iTunes installed to use this so it is not really a replacement for iTunes.

  • I can't even get the serial number from them; follow instructions (Like, share) and that's as far as it gets. Unliked, unshared.
