All these cheap Hawaiian deals of late are becoming too tough to resist..

I agree. Cheap enough for scotty to buy 10 seats and give them away in an OzB competition :)

    It's the new bogan express.

      Not as bad as bali!

Ok, travel tip: for those going to HNL, i highly recommend the Yard House Bar at Waikiki. 100+ beers on tap! I just remember getting home.

    • Been there…and good for that..They're a chain which are pretty much all over the states.
My best travel tip for Waikiki….Leave.

      • +1

I didnt mind Waikiki but only stayed there for about three days. Though I did what you said and hired a motorbike and rode north, was stunning.

  • Not bad but I hear Hawaii is quite expensive once you get there

    • +3

You likely heard that from people who were expecting a Thailand/Bali level of cheapness. It isn't the cheapest place in the world but it's not the dearest either. Airfares excluded, it's certainly cheaper than going to the Gold Coast for a holiday from my experiences. Although in saying that, this current bargain is nearly comparable to what you'd pay to fly to the GC return from Melbourne..

      • While most of what you say is true, MEL - OOL flights are commonly less than $100 each way. $550 return would even be pricey for a coast to coast return these days.

        • Whilst a slight exaggeration on my part, the Virgin up to 25% off deal posted earlier today yielded return flights for $320 return to GC in a block of two weeks that I'd like to go. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for these sub-$100 each way flights that are so common.. As long as they're not with Tiger ;)

The cheapest for Perth was $498 return too. Curious as to what you determine as non-pricey for a coast to coast trip!

@Puff Braddy: Seeing as you need to need to wait for a sale to Honolulu for these prices (from Jetstar), it only seems appropriate to apply that to any Gold Coast pricing, otherwise your current quote is only appropriate in comparison to the regular fare to Honolulu ($900-$1000).

Neg away, but a little effort on your part would be appreciated. A quick search will find sales which corroborate my estimate.

          ;)

        • @Puff Braddy:

Really? I think thats 1 way..

    • well if you consider our crappy dollar then yes it starts to get expensive.. i think its still a bit cheaper than aus but then you have to consider the hidden taxes and tipping which i always hate

shame it isn't 1 for 1 that was the BEST time to go! i went during 90's and glad i went 5 months travelling. i can only imagine thinking about it if it went down to 80 back then which it is now .. yuck

      • Yeah, the tipping got to me when I went in May 2013. I have no quarrel tipping if the service warrants it, but hate how it's an expectancy in their culture. Then it was roughly $1 for $1 too… How the times have changed so quickly!

Hawaii basically cost the same as the US..so that means super cheap alcohol, and relatively cheap food. Macys dept store is cheap for shopping so im cant see why ppl are saying its expensive,

Whenever i go i stay on the north shore (surfing) and the accommodation is very good value

I thought I make take up the offer to go play some golf there, but couldn't bring myself to pay more for a round of golf there than the return flight. I'll have to find a dearer flight.

        • I hear the US and golf just don't go together (by that I mean they want your entire account balance just to have a look down the first hole). Can I ask how much they wanted in total and which course?

        • +1

          @Sira:

Some of the courses I was looking at (e.g. Kapalua) wanted around the USD250 mark, approximately 3 times what we'd pay here for the top courses.

      • Ummm, Hawaii is the US.

Wish they would do some sales during school holidays.

    • More than double the price during school holidays

  • +1

These prices are getting ridiculous. Is the Hawaii state government subsidising airfares there or something!?

    • Even yes doubt they will sudsidise jetstar

  • Why isn't virgin offering deals like this… :( got a 650 virgin credit that expires in October and haven't found a decent deal yet.

    • Coz they are now a full service premium airline? Look Tiger

For those that aren't aware, you can turn your Hawaiin trip into a US mainland trip hybrid for the same price (or less) as going to the mainland direct (or less) - albeit with lesser quality airlines.

You can fly to Las Vegas with Allegiant Air for $250-$300 (depending on bags - you pay even for a proper sized carry on!). You can fly back to Hawaii from Los Angeles or San Francisco for only a bit more (or Las Vegas via SF) via Allegiant Air or United Airlines. Of course this is more impressive if you onyl want to go one way to Las Vegas.

Great deal also if you are going one way to other US cities or Canada. Managed to get flights to Toronto from Honolulu with Delta for only AUD290, resulting in a one way flight Melbourne-Toronto for $610 (excluding baggage). Not bad. Plus we get a bonus holiday to Hawaii!

Fairly sure Delta, AirCanada and WestJet all have cheap fares at the moment if you're looking for flights to continental US or Canada.

      • What month are you flying?

        • Flying to Honolulu late April, then to Toronto early May.

      • Nice. From a quick check AirCanada flies to Vancouver (in April for example) for $230.

  • Hi, Do I need to arrange own visa for these? Anyone point me in right direction as never been to Honolulu before.

I guess demand for Hawaii is dropping with our dollar down so much…it doesn't make hotels and shopping nearly as much fun as it was when the dollar was parity.

  • The dates you have set do you need to depart AND return during each set?

    17/02/15 to 24/03/15, 21/04/15 to 18/06/15, and 21/07/15 to 10/09/15

  • +1

haha, when they cancel your flight with engineering reason, you will taste the deal

    • Do they have screens or any entertainment on these flights?

One time I went on them to Perth and I've never felt so squashed or board in my life.

      What about cancellations?

  • $533 to get all the way to Hawaii from Brisbane, but to cover the difference in distance to Adelaide add another $252!
