    any bargains?

    • -6

The bargain is you give them money in exchange for Groupon to wasste your time dealing with their aftersales support while they lie to you.

      • +5

that doesnt sound like a bargain :(

        • That's how they treated me and a few other ozbargainer on previous deal. I found out it was false advertising, they claimed a deal was nationwide, then provided me a code that never worked in my state. They did it to a few ozbargainers actually. Then they told me they couldn't provide me a refund despite claiming to be investigating it, because I let the code expire and I never follower their terms.

        • @Ronnnie:

I once had to chase them on one of the Lady Cutler cruises.

You have to book a certain date and the terms state the voucher cannot be exchanged for other dates.

After severe weather cancelled the cruise and several heated emails were sent, I finally got a refund saying that if it didn't say the voucher couldn't be exchanged for other dates, I wouldn't have purchased it.

        • @tomsco:

          Read the deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/168330#comment-2397195

I followed their terms, I bought a nationwide code deal, they provide me a voucher code that only worked in NSW.

I can't believe people will defend companies that ripoff consumers

          @Ronnnie:
How did you go with your ACCC complaint?

        • @roughana:

          This their response

"Thank you for your email to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) about Groupon. Your reference number for this matter is 720289 .

You should write to the Groupon to try to resolve this problem. If that does not work you should contact your local consumer protection agency.

Your local consumer protection agency may be able to assist you with this matter. They can mediate some disputes but they cannot enforce a resolution. Unlike these agencies, the ACCC does not have a dispute resolution service.

Although we do not have a dispute resolution service we have recorded your complaint. Complaints like yours help us understand what issues cause the most harm to Australian consumers and where best to use our resources. You can find out about our priorities on our website.

Our website also has information about the Australian Consumer Law which prohibits businesses from misleading consumers. It also prohibits them from accepting payment:

if they do not intend to supply
if they intend to supply materially different products or services
if they know, or should have known, they would not be able to supply the products or services in a timely manner.
Please see our website for more information about wrongly accepting payment and the ACCC.

I hope the above information is helpful.

          Yours sincerely"

          Which state are you in?

        • +1

I think you are in Queensland. Have you contacted Fair Trading to raise the issue with them?

        • +3

          @roughana:

Yes I am in Queensland, I managed to get my money back. Still won't stop me warning others.

  • -1

So it cannot stack with the gift card?

    • Yes I have gift card too. Can you use with gift card?

    • -1

Everytime I see a groupon deal posted on this site I am going to warn people to be careful dealing with them. If you get a groupon that doesn't work, don't expect to ever see a refund and expect to be lied to from their customer service representatives. Note my comment here and the date I posted, which was before the voucher expired.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/168330#comment-2397195

If they never lied to me I wouldn't have a problem. I can't believe after spending $1000's in the last month they'd try to rip a customer off over $80.

  • $69 for 440 tablets of Finish® Powerball® -$10. $59. Not great but OK price for delivered. Finish deals

  • that body stocking is hmmmm

    • Would a order for three of those stockings qualify for the discount?

  • If you buy two of some $20 offer, will you qualify for the $10 discount? Or does the individual item/deal have to be $39 or more?

    • Individual deals only

  • dinnersorted at Cronulla, thanks OP!

  • -7

I'm still annoyed by Groupon and wouldn't trust them as far as you could throw them. They're known for false advertising like claiming a deal is nation wide then after paying for a voucher giving you a code that doesn't work in your area. They then won't provide you a refund and claim you didn't follow their terms. Groupon will sell voucher codes that expire with in a few days, but if you have an issue want 7-10 days to investigate so they can intentionally take your money without giving anything back in return.

  • -8

Read my posts here and note the date, they are lowlife company and to the people negging me I hope you experience the same misfortune I have by dealing with groupon. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/168330#comment-2397195

Everytime I see a deal by Groupon here I am going to always remind people about this scamming company.

  • -1

You have to love the community here, they support companies that ripoff other ozbargainers. Especially when there has been other ozbargainer other than myself that were scammed the same way. As I say I hope the Groupon supporters have the same misfortune when dealing with Groupon. I gave them $1100 in one month and that still wasn't enough for them to provide me with a refund when they sold me a voucher that never worked. And they ripped off other ozbargainers the exact same way!

    • +2

So Ronnnie, what did the ACCC say to your complaint? Hard for us to judge without hearing both sides of the story.

      • -3

So you're saying despite my comment on the deal being before the voucher (which shows it was I complained and wanted a refund why it was still valid) had expired that Groupon are in the right for not providing a refund when the voucher code provided never worked? Also despite other ozbargainers responding in the same thread having the exact same issue?

I bet anyone would be pissed off at them if they took your money and not give you a refund, and instead lied to you. I wonder now if anyone from Queensland that bought that deal got codes that worked.. Some in NSW couldn't use their codes either.

The ACCC are useless btw, they won't help neither. Really regulations should be like America, and not allow a few days for the voucher to expire and be sold.

I've made complaints to department of fair trading who have been very helpful

I think ACCC deal at more a policy and guidelines level… not individual caes

        • Ronnie is definitely not Shy Ronnie.

    • I don't know why ppl dont protect themselves. i always use a credit card and do a charge back if they don't deliver.
There's not much they can do when dealing with the bank and may also charge them extra fee. Teaches them to screw you over.

Only got done once but it wasn't really Groupon's fault as the restaurant did a bit of chicken wing for chicken rib switch. Would been nice for them to offer something but i'll just throw a fit next time some stupid restaurant try to screw me.

  • If you can't find anything you like, but use Groupon regularly, consider the $50 gift card

    http://www.groupon.com.au/deals/national-deal/gg-groupon-goo…

$37.76 for $50 gift card after cash back

    • I bought a gift card on a previous deal, and went to make a purchase with it and it does not work. Half an hour on the phone trying to tell the Filipino operator the code "Oscar Papa Echo etc" And then I had to email photos of the card and now waiting… waiting… waiting… what a hassle!!

    • +1

I am sorry but I think you have to let go.

I have purchased many times from these guys and never had any issues as I follow the fine print. I only buy if it suits me. They sell thousands of deals every week. They wouldn't be doing that if they always stuffed up.

      Thanks

      • +2

I'm not saying they do always stuff up. I'm saying in the rare instance they do stuff up, don't expect Groupon to help you. Not just me, other ozbargainers have experienced the same. I will be warning everyone in future deals, this is by far the worse company I've dealt with. If they never lied to me, I wouldn't have any issues with them whatsoever, but they did.

  • like it

  • Can I get the Woolies "eGift" card?

So $37.50 for $50 worth of stuff? Does it have to be all in one purchase?

    • +1

Doesn't seem to be available anymore

  • Dear Ronnie, I started reading your stuff, then I realised you are full of BLEEP. Ozbargain IS FOR THE CONSUMER! I think you are begining to rant and ramble on a bit mate and risk coming across as a bit of a nut case.

    • -2

How exactly am I full of crap, the date's in which I posted in the deal where they ripped me off show that my complaints were before the voucher had expired? Simple question will be ignored I bet. Did you read the other ozbargain comment that had the exact same issue?

  • +2

Dude, how you reasonable you are is what makes people want to hear your complaint. As soon as i read that you hope other people get ripped off too, I realised you are a bit of a sour puss and stop giving a shit about your problem. I suspect others are the same hence the down voted comments. Cheers

    • People who support customers getting ripped off I hope experience the same issue. Those negs were before I made that comment.

I still can't believe people support businesses here ripping off customers

  • As I said I bet no one answers my question about how I am full of crap when ozbargain shows my posts were before the voucher expired

  • Ta

  • +1

No one likes getting ripped buddy. I recently went through the same thing and lost my shit too. As soon as I did people stopped listening to me… Be calmer bro and keep you head, people WILL listen to you because how reasonable you are being..

    • As I said how is it unreasonable to ask for a refund for a voucher code that doesn't work and do so before the deal had expired? Which my comments shows was before the expiry date, yet people support the scammers.

  • +3

I am sorry you got ripped off tho dude. But dont wish it on others. That's just NOT the AUSTRALIAN way.

    • -4

They are happy to see me ripped off and support Groupon

As I said simple question no one here has the balls to answer

      • This is a powerful medium to connect with other consumers and talk about your gripes, although how you go about doing it is what gives YOU a voice. People chime out when you wish bad fortune on others and actually end up thinking you got what you deserve.

        • -1

I wished the same thing that happenend to me on the people that negged my comment and supported the scammers. Since they didn't have the balls to reply, not everyone else

And its not a powerful place to respond if people always takes the companies side

by far Groupon Australia are the worse company I've ever dealt with.

I've been ripped off by Dicksmith too, but I don't go around negging their deals because they gave me my money back.

  • +1

    Grow up..

    • So you won't answer my questions? And insult me instead, yet I'm the immature one..

Unlike others I answered questions and provided facts here that show I'm not lying. Yet they still accuse me of not being honest.

      • Where's the comment that accused you of not being honest?

        • moneymoo

"Dear Ronnie, I started reading your stuff, then I realised you are full of BLEEP."

But he won't respond to my question where I link to posts that show comments from dates where Groupon rip me off by not providing me and another ozbargainer a refund despite it being before the voucher had expired.

Which as I said note the date of the comments

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/168330#comment-2397195

        • @Ronnnie:
I don't think he was implying you were not being honest.

          @moneymoo tried to explain further:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/179023#comment-2500143

Try reading his original comment this way:

…then I realised you are full of Angst.

        • @roughana:

Oh really? So saying someone is full of shit isn't accusing them of being dishonest… News to me. He easily could have retracted that statement then.

        • -1

          d

        • typo sorry

  • +2

Thanks. Have bought many groupons and never had a problem. Even got a refund for 1 with email explanation automatically when the business decided not to honour any further deals before I even tried to book. Do some research about the shop/service etc before buying the groupon.

    • I have too, I only had issues with the Woolies one but after the way they treated me and others I won't deal with the company again. Saving a few bucks here and there isn't worth it when they try to rip you off for $80 in one hit.

    • +1

I have got to say, same here.. I've had excellent service from Groupon.

I've had plenty of groupon's refunded, and even complained about the service for a Thai restaurant (Red Elephant Thai, Surry Hills) worst service ever.. 3 hours to server 3 courses.. not Groupon's fault and they refunded a large portion of the cost if i remember right.

  • Thanks OP. Saved $10.
Bought a $39 5hr sailing trip with "all you can eat" lunch + 1 beer for $29 in Brisbane.

Never had any problems with Groupon in many years of use.

  • +2

OP: title is incorrect. Email from Groupon states Deal is on $39 or over Groupon offer, not "over $39". That would exclude the fairly common $39 offers. Bought $39 offer & got $10 discount with code.

    Reported, updated.

    • Oops. Thanks for pointing that out.

      • I ignored the title & tried anyway. Had considered the $39 sailing trip yesterday, but luckily waited :-)
        Thanks!

        • Well, the main text (which I copied from the banner) did say $39 or over. Just an oversight when I wrote the title.

        • +1

          @Love a bargain:
          People read deal descriptions?
I have told people off for repeated asking the same question when the answer was in deal description ;-)

I think I did read that, but noticed the discrepancy in title when I came back to deal after buying.

I didn't buy the sailing deal yesterday as I was pissed off by the tricky promotion - $29 offer was only for child, had to open details to discover adult price is $39. So I was primed for a $29 deal. Finally got it :-)

        • @brucefromaustralia:

Does the child price include a beer? :D

    • +1

Only can use with one offer of $39 or over, not total of purchases to that price. $12.50 offer is less than $39. So you do the maths.

  • How the devils do you use a groupon gift card once you have it?

    • You can't use it for this! I rang. Pathetic!

      • Good try, but pretty standard exclusion of gift cards for discount code.

"$10 off Deals $39 or Over" - a gift card is not a Groupon offer, it is to use to buy offer instead of cash.

Code is to buy a deal of specific minimum value now, not to buy a gift card to buy a deal or deals of possibly lower value later.

        • I meant you can't use a gift card to pay for this deal. You can use any other form of payment, except a gift card. You can in fact purchase a gift card for $10 off if you wish.

        • @Sweet3st:
          Ah, misunderstanding, sorry.

    • Groupon tell me I need to wait for the card to be mailed to me. The downloadable PDF is apparently not the same and is worthless. Does that sound right or am I being spun a line by their support people?

      • Probably correct for the Groupon Gift Card.

      • Correct. And it can't be used in conjunction with any other promo code, as you need to enter the gift card code in the promo box.
