Free pickup seals the deal.
If looking to minimise chances of headaches the flicker-free monitors are listed here http://goo.gl/b3Pxla Unfortunately this one is not on the list.
a pretty decent price on a monitor that's been hovering around the 500+ mark for a while.
although since a new bunch of 4k monitors have recently been announced at CES the price may fall further soon
Essentially you need to fork out another $400 - 500 for a decent graphics card to run 4k games. ie 970 / 980.
This ^
Ive got 2 of these already, they are a nice monitor, i dont get flickering with mine etc, picture quality is good (coming from a Dell 30 inch IPS monitor) and gaming in 4k very very nice.
IM running a single gtx980 which will run most games on medium settings at the full 60fps, a 2nd 980 or a pair of 970's will have you running the majority of games on high easily.
Compared to running 1080p on max settings. Would you say games look better @ 2160p medium or @1080p max?
Edited
1080p vs 2160p monitor that is.
2160p, easily. Generally i just kill off any AA/AF and that allows me to close to/over 60fps, because of the PPI its not needed anyways.
It's amazing how much better games look at 4k, you really need to see it to believe it. 4k at Medium over 1080p at max any day.
I have a Dell 3007 which is TFT, is it worth the switch? My biggest gripe about the old Dell 30" is with the power consumption of 147W in summer it feels like I'm sitting in front of a bar heater.
And this may be a dumb question but how long is the DP cable which is included?
You would need to do the maths to see if it is worth switching.
Considering you would save 115W, if you used the monitor 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year, the consumption is 119.6kWh p.a.
If electricity is 30c/kWh, the savings is $35.88 p.a. It would take over 12 years to break even.
I meant with it coming from Dell 30" 2560x1600 to a 28" UHD in terms of PQ General usability. Not too concerned about cost of power but thanks for doing the maths, I was trying to work it out.
@bxpressiv:
3840 X 2160 vs 2560 x 1600. I would go with the UHD but I use the monitor for photo editing. More pixels means more space for the photo in Lightroom (No I don't have either monitor - just a lowly 24" dell ultrasharp, 2407 I think).
@bxpressiv: +1 this
the pixel increase of 4k over 2560x1600 isnt that much, esp since 16:10 gives the feeling that its bigger than it actually is
Good thoughts, I use the 30" to have multiple windows spread out to multitask. I think the smaller screen and the bump in resolution would make things too small and I'd end up at 2560x1600 defeating the purpose of the upgrade. I have a 24" too, so I have enough real estate right now I guess.
nice combo
