[Box Damaged] Sony XR85X90L 85" X90L Full Array LED 4K HDR TV (2023) $2591.65 Delivered @ Sony Australia eBay (Excl. TAS, NT)

570
SONYAUSMARCH15

Excludes Northern Territory, Tasmania.

Seems like a pretty good deal, prev best was $27xx for a box damaged one.

Techradar seems to have a pretty review overall:

The Sony X90L series is a high-value entry in the company’s TV lineup, delivering bright and refined-looking images via a regular LED backlight with full-array local dimming. This makes it a great choice for movie viewing, though with 4K 120Hz and Dolby Vision gaming support, it’s also a fine option for gaming. A sleek design and adjustable support feet allow the X90L to blend into a wide range of installation scenarios, while its built-in ATSC 3.0 makes it a future-proof choice for broadcast TV viewers in the US.

Who they havent sacked yet!! After all these "damaged" boxes. Maybe they need to set up Samsung/LG/Hisense displays to track this clown…

      What are they thinking…🤔

No such a thing as box damaged. They all returned products.

I thought they were discounted products so the retails don’t complain Sony is selling ‘em below retail?

I’ve bought a sound bar from Sony eBay once and never again! I’d rather pay more and get it in store

That's a myth. There are countless reports of people receiving damaged TVs. This is known as T1 stock and basically a lucky dip. The TV may or may not be in one piece as the boxes are not opened and inspected. If it was a "lie" to not disgruntle retailers, why are they damaged? Source: I used to sell TVs for a living.

        • Imagine getting negged because this isn't what you wanted to read.

I recall reading someone buying "box damaged" Roborock only to get a used vacuum with hair and everything in it…

I have now bought 3 of these box damaged Sony TVs over a few years. In every case the box was completely undamaged and the product appeared to be brand new and unopened.

Let's say they are selling new tvs as box damaged to clear stock - which anecdotal evidence here suggests is by far the majority of TVs received - why would they tell retail shop staff about it?

I ordered a bravia 8 oled a few days ago. Lets see if I once again get a brand new tv.

        • Cheers for the clarification

This is not true. Boxed damage is how they undercut retailers with new stock without ruining retail relationships.
i.e. why would Jb or good guys stock a tv if Sony was selling cheaper directly. Box damage lies give them cover at a corporate level.

We bought a box damaged 75 inch 90k last year, and while the box looked fine from the outside, there was a bright spot on the panel (no visible impact, looked brand new).

We were able to return it, but it stopped us taking the risk again. Only one persons experience, but thought it might be worth sharing to the bargain crew.

Same happened with me with a ‘box damaged’ Samsung TV. Someone had put a forklift through the bottom of the screen!

Well some brand new TVs from retail stores come broken. Maybe you just received a normal DOA.

If box damaged are actually new stock, then this would be expected and I don't think this means anything statistically speaking.

          • @lunchbox99: Maybe so, but rarely do high end Sony’s make it through quality control with faults. 7 years selling them myself.

            • @Millikano: I don’t see anything here suggesting it isn’t rare with these box damaged tvs. Most people have reported they look brand new. That’s why these deals are so popular.

I guess that Sony are shifting warehouse stock prior to the new model announcement expected any day now.

              • @lunchbox99: Likely are!
Again, just sharing my experience. I’m a big Sony fan, so was disappointed with my own experience, but hopefully it was the exception.

    • This Sony box damaged TV comes with full new TV warranty.

      • Still not worth the risk for one to two hundred dollar saving. The same Sony eBay store sells new warrant seconds - and they put me through the wringer getting warranty support. If it’s the same mob I’ll never buy from there again and offer a retailer I can walk into and return

Can we source a good box from a third party ?

X90L is a great TV for low $2000’ish. Got the 75’ on boxing day and think it’s great. The setup and picture adjustment controls give great options and customisation.

Negatives are there is a bit of blooming.

Is it a good T.V. set?

    • Yes.

YMMV but just to give others awareness of great experience from Sony Australia eBay, on the contrary to those that say they received damaged TV's and bad service from Sony Australia eBay.

I bought both a XR85X90L and XR75X90L in the last 6 months through Sony Australia eBay, and both arrived with NO damage at all to the boxes, and importantly no damage to the TV's within.

I bought the XR85X90L first using one of many discount codes, and thought I got a great deal. I was building at the time and didn't need the TV delivered until another month or so, therefore I booked for the delivery to be dispatched on the last day possible. During this time, there was another discount code that brought the TV even cheaper than I bought at about $300. I reached out to Sony Australia eBay, and they happily refunded the difference. Amazing!

Next, I had some delays with my build and needed to push out the delivery further. Luckily, the way logistics worked was that after the sale the delivery is organised directly with DHL using their SMS system with a booking link. I was able to continue to push the dates out. In fact, I pushed it on a few occasions. Why I shared this story around logistics, my TV was sitting at the depot for however long and still managed to receive it finally, without any damage inside or out.

Hope this lets others take confidence in buying these "box damaged" TV's.

This deal is a great price, albeit now expired since making my comment! I paid about $2.7k back 6 months ago. The TV itself is awesome for the price. Very happy with the buy, hence going for the XR75X90L too as the second TV.

  • I had no issues with my X90L, great TV. But had some people recommend filming opening the box in case something is wrong just to cover yourself.

  • got the 75inch last year, great TV. box was only dented a bit in the corner- don't even know why its called box damaged.
    So-good exp for me.
