I played the heck out of the Metal Slug series (esp. X and the first one), I can complete the entire game using just two credits but this was using a proper arcade joypad.
as the game is also punishingly difficult (you die in a single hit) it's a fairly frustrating experience trying to wrangle with the virtual joystick, since you have to do a lot of twitch movements (e.g shooting upwards or downwards while you are performing a jump, requires the player to push the joystick down while mid-air) Joypad highly recommended.
Just fired up MSX, the game itself runs fine and looks great, buttons are bit and bunched on the the right corner, if you are playing with your finger then you'll have issues seeing enemies coming from the right, I suggest using a controller.

Unfortunately it looks like some of Metal Slug games are only compatible with Moga and/or Xperia Play controllers. Otherwise I would have jumped on this with my Xbox 360 controller.
Same reduced pricing for iOS devices too
this game is (profanity) hard if you are new to it.
but once you get a hang of it, its a blast.
Can anyone vouch for how playable these are with touch controls?
