  • I think it starts 3am AEST.

  • +1

not much saving going on their pricing rzor atrox for xbox 1 $350 cheapest on staticice is 229

    • +18

      50% of $350 = $175

      $229 - $175 = $54

      $54/$229 * 100 = 23.6% off StaticIce

Maths would seem to indicate much saving going on.

      • Just out of curiosity and not related at all to the sale - but why do people use * as the multiplication sign, rather than an x?

        • +1

Use the windows calc, does x 100 work? or * 100?

        • +2

          @shizmo:

          I'm on a Mac.

        • +41

          @Flying Ace:

          Condolences…

        • @Flying Ace: well there's your problem

        • +9

          @tight-a55:

I was waiting for some sort of comment like that ;-)

No condolences needed - at least my computer can understand the difference between an asterisk and a multiplication sign!

        • -2

          @Flying Ace:

That's about all a Crapple Mac can do.

It's a poor man's PC but you pay more to be duped.

        • @Flying Ace:
EDIT: Someone beat me to it.

        • +10

          Attempting a serious answer here:
Just guessing, but I suspect it's because as soon as you move beyond very basic arithmetic, the letter 'x' is so commonly used as the default "variable with unknown value" symbol in algebra - thus easily confused with the "diagonal-cross" multiplication symbol.

Most keyboards that I've seen do not have a dedicated "diagonal-cross" key, but '*' seems to be an accepted workaround to reduce ambiguity.

        • +15

An asterisk is used for multiplication because programming languages are restricted to ASCII, and thus the multiplication symbol (×) cannot be used. The letter 'x' is not a correct substitution (it is a completely different character: letter x, symbol ×)

        • +1

@Wickzki49: Somebody has never used a Unix-like OS before

        • +1

@Jayphen: Yes, I suspect it's a bit of both - programmers using ASCII and also potential confusion between "letter x"/"symbol ×" in algebra.

I didn't mention ASCII initially because to my amazement I've found it's not something the average person really wants to know about, but I hear ya :)

In fact now that I'm thinking about it, I wonder whether "symbol ×" was left out of ASCII because of its visual similarity to "letter x" - probably exacerbated when displayed on old-school low-res printouts/screens back in the day.

Some basic info on wikipedia for anybody that hasn't lost interest yet…

        • @Jayphen: Likely a lot more than you have.

        • +1

@Wickzki49: My mistake then – it's usually Windows fanatics who claim that OSX is inferior for anything other than gaming.

        • @Flying Ace:

I'll buy your Mac from you. $2.64

        • @Flying Ace:

I'm in a mac too and the calculator recognises "shift+8" (*) and not X

        • @SuperMatty:

Furthermore, if you're working with vectors, the x sign is a special kind of multiplication (cross product). It is drastically different to an equation containting an * or . (dot). So yeah, using the x sign can be confusing, so the asterisk avoids that confusion - unless you're a Mac user, apparently ;)

  • Razer is one of the best peripheral companies. I have a mouse from them from 2009

    • thats a long time for a mouse ! mine normally last 1-2 years , for 40-50$ i think thats pretty good!
but my keyboards been alive since 2009 as well, and i use it ALOT..

i think razer products are just fine , would never spend more than 80$ on any one product of theirs tho, thank god for msy prices on their products.

      • +2

but the led lights and gamer cred…

    • +1

All/most of their recent products have degraded in quality. I owned two Diamondbacks for many years. Using steelseries or roccat now.

    • +3

I still use a Microsoft Intellimouse 5 button mouse for my gaming pc, I've yet to find one better. It's at least 10 years old.

      • +2

The intellimouse is an incredible device

    • +1

I have a DeathAdder that is a few months old and it's a piece of shit.

The rubber on the sides need to be re-glued, and the left mouse button has gone flakey — after only a few months of use.

I like the shape/design of the mouse, but the manufacturing quality is shithouse.

[edit:] I'm not hard on my mice either. My last mouse, a Logitech MX something, lasted me years before the mousewheel went kaput.

      • The older DeathAdders were much, much better(mine lasted me three years). I had the new one for three months and then the middle button broke. :S Replaced it with a Zowie FK and never been happier.

      • My Death Adder served me well for about 7 years and was still in good nick/working order when I changed over to the G602 about 6 months ago for the sake of cutting down on some wires on my desk.

    • +2

      meh…
I've had my Logitech MX Revolution for over 6 years. I use it every day and it's still going strong.
      :D

      • My Logitech VX still works a charm, its a shame the only thing wrong with it is the receiver, which has little to no physical activity!

    • Their new stuff isn't that great tbh. And will get worse due as they have moved to Chinese keyboard switches over cherry ones.

    • They're actually not. Razer is pretty terrible all around.

  • +4

Would have been more worthwhile if their sale was going to be 70% off. MSY always has stuff for basically half off, and you're not limited lol

  • +4

    Still pretty overpriced.

  • +3

Nothing can beat $68.9 (In Hong Kong right now) for a standard Blackwidow. Now to look beyond Razer…

    • Ebgames has/had keyboards with cherry switches for $68

    • Strange, just went to HK the blackwidoes were not $68… 6:1 exchange killed it

      • I just meant the 50% off deal in the razerstore, the conversion isn't exact, $240AUD for the Blackwidow Chroma in the HK razerstore, instead of $250 in the australian razerstore.

My problem is that I run OSX, so its probably going to be a Blackwidow Ultimate for about $88. Now to worry about delivery….

  • +6

Would love one of those laptops, but not at the Australian pricing ($3499 vs $2199 USD? COME ON). If I was more confident about shipping an item with a large LIon battery in it from the US to Australia, I'd Borderlinx it, but I'm just not confident.

  • Does this mean around $115 for a razed black widow chroma?

If so I'm picking one up,

    They are over $200.

    • +1

Just checked the Razerstore and it's $250.

JBHIFI is $199 and other online stores range from $175-$190.

$125 is still a good price and also that includes free shipping since it's over $100.

Does anyone now whats the differences between the Blackwidow Chroma and Chroma Stealth?

      • I think it has to do with the mechanical switches, the stealth is quiet and the regular blackwidow is louder.

        • thanks.if they perform the same i might get the stealth instead.

        • @Pepsi to go: Based on the info the stealth models keys are a lot better than the normal version's keys.

        • @Pepsi to go:
Where do you select this type (Chroma or Chroma Stealth)? I couldn't find this option on the Australian site, it's saying just plain "Blackwidow Chroma"… Would like to get a stealth version myself…

[EDIT] Oops, ignore the above question, found that they do have both keyboards available ;-)
Now need to wait until 1pm tomorrow ;-)

        • You have to try them out. They feel completely different.

  • +1

Us price x exchange rate + GST + 20% Aus tax. I know it looks like a large markup, IT markups seem to slowly be coming down, I would love there to be no Aus tax, but 20% is quite reasonable.

    Buy Clevo.

    • +6

Anything more than 0% is not acceptable for me. Got to continue to push these thugs back!

      • Then you'll buy nothing locally? Fair call.

        • +2

I wouldn't use the word nothing, you should always pick the path of least resistance that reaps the best returns. the market pushes forward solely through customers making cost-efficient decisions and businesses offering more and more cost-efficient services. It's not either us or them. Chinese people doing well means Australians doing well.

  • +1

If the 50% off is applicable to the AU site ($AU) and also free shipping over $100, definitely worth it, else the USD will kill the sale

  • Also, whats the diff between:

    RAZER BLACKWIDOW ULTIMATE STEALTH

    RAZER BLACKWIDOW ULTIMATE

?? Is this similar to Cherry MX Red vs Blue?

    • +1

Yes except it is using razers custom mechanical switches

      • -2

        *Cheap Chinese

    • Stealth is silent mechanical.

    • no, brown vs blue

  • omg, I bought the non-stealth, please don't tell me it's going to be as loud as the MX Blue or loud enoug??

    • +1

      Non-stealth sounds beautiful

      • Hope so, else i'm going to put it up for sale the moment I open the box

    • I have the BlackWidow Chroma keyboard, and it is quite loud. I had a soft-touch keyboard before, so it was quite a shock to me - should have tested it in a store before buying online…

      • How do you like it?

Is paying the Premium cost worth the money?

I have never owned a Mechanical keyboard ever. The only state of the art gaming keyboard i used is the Logitech G19 and G19S which uses man brain keys.

i only want the chroma because you can now change the colours just like on the Logitech but better since it has a white background for the backlight to shrine on giving a much brighter look then the logitech.

        • I had an old semi-curves Microsoft keyboard for like 6 years… so my fingers have to get used to using the slightly narrower layout. The sound is a bit eerie late at night when everyone is asleep, but thankfully my gaming doesn't require lots of typing. It is quite responsive and the colour config is nice and helps locate the keys faster when you need them.

They've recently released a patch for the colours to give more customisation so that's good. So far the only problem I have is switching between Windows accounts - the Razer profile switching doesn't work from the shortcuts and you have to do it manually. (i.e. my wife likes one config/colour and I like another).

          -G

        • @brannor: how loud is the key sound? Can you still hear it in a different room with all the doors closed?? The click sound so awesome, but the stealth seem to be more practical.

        • @Scyl: Well, when in the theater room which has sound proofing and a closed door, I can't hear it. :P (Sitting around 5-6 meters from the keyboard)
I'll check tonight with my wife as to whether she hears it in the bedroom - just the bedroom door closed. My study doesn't have a door.

I live out of the city, so at 11pm at night, with no traffic driving past nor ambient sound from anything else… it sounds loud. But I'm getting used to it. :)

        • @brannor: Thanks! I will look forward to what you say tonight as well, I don't want to annoy my family with the keyboard sound.

        • Don't get a Razer board unless you are really keen on the RGB backlighting. There are better boards for the same price.

        • +1

@Scyl: She said she doesn't hear it. So unless you're in a small house with no doors, chances are it won't be audible through the walls to the extent it'll wake people or keep them awake.

        • @brannor: Awesome! thanks :)

    • I would say it's about the same as a mx blue

      • DAMN

        • Don't open it, sell it straight away

        • @Lukian:

What should I get for it on Gumtree?

        • +4

          @frostman: Cash

  • Includes clearance stock?

    • I think so but there's nothing in Clearence over $218 so you'll be paying about $45 for shipping.

  • +5

last time a razer 50% off was done is was negged completely. Their AU prices are completely inflated, but these prices are still ok 50% off if you buy their higher priced products, Only deal worth buying from the looks of it is blackwidow chroma.

Note: ALL their audio products are cheaper elsewhere even with discounts.

  • Finally can grab a new naga

will be sweet and in Chroma!

  • The Razer blade seems alright.

But don't really get the non-pro & pro. In my option the non-pro seems better off than the pro, Mainly in graphics.

  • Will grab a the hard case thing for 14" Blade, if the discount works on it.

  • +1

would love to get a blade but 3699 is just to exy for what it is; with this discount it makes sense to buy one but alas, no stock…. poor form Razer that isnt great for your brand

    • On the Razer forum a rep stated that stock had been withdrawn from sale now in order to minimise the 'I just bought this yesterday and now it's half price' problem. They said stock will be returned to the store when the event is live. Of course stock numbers could still be very low even then.

      • thanks for that comment Rayve, hopefully they have enough stock to last more than a few minutes!

  • "Razer - 50% off Peripherals & 30% off Systems"
"Only one item per person to try stop scalpers."

I see what you did there ;)

    • Haha, just quoting Min-Liang. "Also - we're aware that there are scalpers/resellers who are looking to register multiple accounts etc and we're limiting each account/shipping address to one unit only so that we can get as many of you guys to participate as possible."

  • so when does it start?

    • +1

You can have the code now. But it's valid from 1pm tomorrow (syd/melb time)

  • I got excited a bit too quickly: I was looking at the Chroma bundle for $520. 50% off would have brought it to $260, but the sale does not apply to bundles unfortunately.

Both the Chroma Kraken ($169) and Naga ($199) will be brought below $109 with the 50% off code and therefore, will not get free shipping.

Looks like the only good items to get are all those $220+ (Chroma BlackWidow, Seiren mic, Leviathan speakers or their full systems).
