Don't know much about chainsaws but looking on eBay this looks to be a good price for a petrol chainsaw..

The Starke SZC-45 series offers unparalleled power to weight ratio. The Starke SZC-4518 is simply a fantastic light weight power option. It has an RRP of over $600 and rivals units being sold for over $800!
Easy to start and operate, thanks to built-in features like ergonomic design, advanced cutting technology and powerful engine with low emissions.
There are a lot of promises being made out there. We chose quality and reliability over price and we back up everything we say with a warranty that we do something about. Our telephone number actually works, and we will support you all the way! When the smoke and dust settles, there is really only one choice - choose the Starke.

quick google shows its worth $145

$395 buys a serious chainsaw like a stihl or husky

    • nice work.
I read "genuine Starke" and thought what ? Never heard of them.

Also available same price at Greysonline:

      • i think aldis always sell $99 chainsaws and generally, their shit is surprisingly decent

and they give 2-3yrs warranties so may as well and you can return it easily

  • any recommendation for Pole Hedge Trimmer ?

Ideal for next month: February 2015 - Friday 13th

RRP is fake, and like the rest of the cheap Chinese power tools on EBay, will probably break after 5 uses.

    • Removed RRP.

Last 100 sales also at this price, so really it's normal price.

    • will probably break after 5 uses.

      thats optimistic ;)

  • I've bought a few tools from these guys and was really happy with the quality and service.

  • I've got an Ozito that I use occasionally that's still going strong, sure it might not be good enough to cut down a forest but sometimes for what you pay for a cheap tool you easily get it's value out of

  • why would you pay for an unknown brand with no history/reputation? i bought a second hand Stihl 3 years ago, used it several times, takes all the abuse and still comes back for more!

    • +3

Not everyone needs to cut down an entire forest?

Cheap 2-stroke engines are a nightmare. I would avoid unless you can get your money's worth from the first weekend of use.

  • +3

    Uselesss crap. Will work once.

Source: Had one. Replaced it with a Stihl.

    • +2

      +1 Stihl works!

  • 18" bar is pretty big for the yard, save up and get an Stihl Arborist chainsaw, it can be used one handed.

    • +1

it can be used one handed.

which is useful if you have a chainsaw mishap…

      • +3

or if you need to attach it to your arm so you can mow down an army of darkness

  • +1

Why would you want to have more than the average number of limbs?
Save your money! Use cheap tools!

  • Buy a stihl.

Even their domestic range are a LOT better than this (think of the nightmare starting/cursing!) and their pro stuff is built to last.

I had a farm boss which was vastly overspecced for my logpile but it NEVER missed a beat and NEVER didn't start, it would cut through anything i had, and when i sold it was worth almost the same as when i bought it (second hand of course!) as i'd serviced it regularly. IMPORTANTLY, Good chainsaws can be serviced, these cheap ones are basically disposable!

Stihl, Husky, echo, makita, jonsered are the big brands, but there is a reason these clones are cheap. Stick with husky or stihl, wheichever dealer is closest to you, and you can't go too far wrong, and buy protective gear and wear it!

if you REALLY have to buy cheap, but the aldi generic ones, at least you can take them back WHEN they fail!

this looks exactly like a stihl ms230.

  • I would only ever buy one of these Chinese chainsaw if I needed something to cut ice blocks out of a frozen lake, in case I dropped it in. Having said that I've a mate who bought one, he hacked away with it at camping trips for several years and it's stihl going. Total POS, but it works for back yard sticks and suck, however I'll stick to my husqvarna's I think.

The OM KA royal really has me intrigued though.

  • ……sticks and SUCH….

  • If only they had the nuts to call that the Yum Cha (royal) chainsaw and print "Chainsaw" on the bar, I'd buy one just because.
