  • Has anyone tested or have one of these?

    • My mate has one of these, great picture

As jibupaul said this is the short throw version made for small rooms.

He paid $800 last year some time. I been looking to get one for my bed room, but I don't think it's a good idea to look at a massive screen all day long. The 55" I have is perfect

My friend has W1060 which does a decent job and the next one w1070 has very good reviews. This particular model w1080 is a short throw projector which enables to use it in smaller rooms and gives a projection ratio of 65" at 1 m distance.

  • I recently bought the BenQ W1070 projector for my media room and the image/picture quality is amazing. Very crisp, clear and bright. Projector speakers that are built-in are good. Mine even came with a back-light remote control!

    • I am looking for one too, where did you end up buying W1070 at what price?

      • +1

I got mine from Officeworks…mate works there so got 5% discount!
Get a 2 year warranty as well with it.

        • He wanted to know the price…

        • +1

@Rookie117: Officeworks price was $998 and then got the 5% discount

  • I have the W1070, the W1080 basically is the short throw (easier to install) version of it.
The picture is clear and bright, haven't tried 3D though.
IMHO, it's the best FullHD projector under 1K.

Heres mine in action… mounted just above my head.. 80" image
    New racing setup: http://youtu.be/3PdgqlBc560

    • pretty cool setup - seems amazing that the picture is so low if the projector is above your head (like i would have thought your steering wheel would have put a shadow on the screen as if blocking the picture)

That's the beauty of a short throw projector :)

    • NICEEEEEE…

    • I envy you.

    • well done! my full hd benq projector is long throw and as such I have it set back 4.5m to give me a 120inch display. I play FIFA and NFS.

    • i think i just came… lol awesome! :)

Also is that ps3 or ps4? pretty high res…

        Project Cars on PC
        With simvibe plus buttkickers
And a T500RS wheel and pedals with Fanatec clubsport shifter
        Obutto revolution cockpit

Cost me a bit.. But worth every penny

These have very low input lag so are suitable for gaming.

  • Pretty cheap if you want the 3d glasses. For those interested the W1070 is $965 at landmark computers or $916 officeworks price matched.

W1070 image quality is rated slightly better than the W1080ST in reviews but I'm sure it's hard to tell. Guess it comes down to your needs and room set up, read the manual downloadable from benq website to check projection set up as the 1080 might end up having to be mounted in front of your seating position if ceiling mounting.

I run this baby in my lounge room @ 120", sits in a custom made coffee table in front of me.

    • how many meters away from the wall gives you 120"?

    • +1

i'm thinking to do the same as I don't want to install a ceiling mount. Reckon you could show a pic of how you have it setup? Thanks!

        @evexdevil:

I found some old pics on my phone for you when setting up, I built the table out of old pallets and it hides the proj nicely.

Since this pic there is a rug covering the cables coming up the leg through a small hole.

  • I have this…I'm still trying to plan out how to mount this in the living room
If i put it behind the couch i get a 150" image which is too large…so it will have to sit in the center of the living room, but then you have to deal with visible wires.

    • Get the w1070 then

    • There is some zoom so surely you could make it smaller to a degree?

  • Is the 3D function suitable for running racing games from a PC?

  • I have a W1070 great projector for the $ paid $667 from benq direct 3D is great.. get glasses on ebay

have 120" screen cheapo from ebay and nothing but praise for it

Bought this but haven't installed yet …

    • thats a good price for the motorised projector unit - i wonder how would you plan on making it come down - could it be controlled by a light switch?

Also going on the theory if you were making a mini home theatre room - would there really be any point in having the motorised dropdown unit, its one more thing that can go wrong and whats the point in hiding the projector unit if ceiling mounted? Not dissin' anything you are doing just keen to understand. Hope that makes sense!

      • +1

is remote controlled, problem is the throw size was hoping to use a shelf but cant reduce the projection size enough from that distance. The price was a big determining factor in going this way.

Could put a fixed ceiling mount but aesthetically is not acceptable to MRS :-)

I was happy to just put on a table and run hdmi across the floor

        • Ahh yep that old chestnut - gotta keep the misses happy - fair point!

        • sorry to bug again - really keen to hear how you get on installing the motorised mount and around:
          - every time it comes down - can you configure it to stop at a certain point (to line up with your screen) and
          - what is the decorating cover, do you have to add gyprock that has been painted into it to match ceiling? or just leave it as is?

        • +2

will let you know how I go and post some pics, got a mate helping with it is hot in roof at moment in QLD :-) have to put supports for screen first then find right spot for the mount. taking in account the lens is not centered. assume will cut roof panel and attach to bottom of the mount so will look nice and neat when is in up position have a bit of air cond duct in roof also so hoping that not going to be a problem!

I have one of these, very easy to setup and moveable/portable. I live in an apartment so space is limited and plus saves me lugging a 55" LCD TV if I move out.

See attached image link of my setup. It's just placed on my coffee table and adjusted the projector stand tilt to throw on a plain white wall. Didn't need to buy those projector pull down screens and the price vs quality is awesome. I have sonos to go with the projector and its one of the best compact setup with playbar, sub, and two play 1's sitting on edges of my couch.

    • You ran the power cables and hdmi under your carpet to your coffee table?

      • Not under my carpet, just under my rug with a flat hdmi cable and power plug hidden under the sofa to make it tidy and hazard free

  • Has any one got experience of these in a room with a fair amount of light. I figured with it being short throw it may fare a little better than the w1070? Also is it worth biting at this price point? It seems a little old by now to still be hovering around $1000.
