So, I have 52k points thanks to the ANZ promotion and need about 58k for a return trip to Thailand from Sydney (plus $370 in taxes). However, buying an extra 6000 points directly from Qantas is very very expensive. I'm going to check if any of my family members have points, as I've read you can transfer them.
Other than that, any ideas on how to acquire more points? Guess I could see if anyone has any bonus point offers on particular products.

There is 10 points to 1 dollar with Qantas Vouchers.
The expiry is 1 year but there is an added bonus of no credit card surcharge when purchasing or exchanging it for flights (even if the flight is more expensive than the voucher).

Perhaps if you are eligible to get another credit card, look for one with bonus points and $0 annual fee. Here are some possibilities:

Citibank Signature CC is currently offering 60K rewards points, $299 annual fee. After getting the CC you can ask for the Citibank Signature Credit Card - Free for Life to be applied and fee refunded. I've not tried this myself, but others on OzB have. Please note that 60K rewards points is less when converted to Qantas points and also there is a fee of $49 for joining the Citibank Qantas rewards program.

People sell them on gumtree and occasionally on the classifieds site here.
Usual price, especially for a small number like 6k, is 1-2c per point which works out about $60-$120 for 6k points.
