  • Hold on… Title is a little misleading… You got $80 worth for $35 or $80 worth for $70???

  • +1

You're supposed to purchase them with a $2 sim card (for a total of $35) but it looks like the discount works even without the sim card - others have reported this elsewhere.

Hold off until the 26th of December to get 10x points (30 points per $1) which effectively gives you a 15% discount - valid until 30th of December.

    • Really, damn it lol.

    • May I ask where do you have this information from?

nvm, found it in the catalog, 10x flybuys point is way better than $5 off $40 but since they are not exclusive, I assume you can stack them up -> $29.75 for $40 recharge?

  • Why is this even good when you can go to Dick Smith right now and get $30 Telstra recharges for $15?

    • More info please. :)

      • Hmm… I can't find it online. But it was one two big posters at the entrance of the Dick Smiths at Toombul shopping centre (Brisbane) today.

      • Woolies also has the $30 starter kits for $1 if you spend $30 in store but they are getting scarce to find. I noticed a few stores have even pulled the catalogue and replaced it with a different one that doesnt have the starter kits advertised. I guess they are too popular. That might be a good deal too if you don't mind doing what OnTheMark describes.

Do you mean $30 starter kits? They're often on a half price special, but you can't use them as a recharge. You can port out to another provider and port back in and people do that, but it's a bit inconvenient - you can be without credit for a while if there are any delays during porting, etc. I've also seen Telstra put a block on numbers being repeatedly ported in to make use of the cheap starter kits.

Another option is to activate them as a new and separate number, but that's also not particularly convenient unless you've got a dual sim phone…

      • I have used telstra chat to get the credit transferred, although a few agents have stopped doing it now or charge you a few cents for transfer, so you cannot avail the full credit- as per whirlpool prepaid wiki

      • oh no wonder I couldn't port out to Vodafail these last few days. lol. I've been porting my number in and out maybe 6 times over the last 12 months. :D

        • No problem for me this afternoon (Christmas eve)… ported from Telstra to Vodafone (free $2 SIM) & back to Telstra ($30 Starter Pack for $1 at Woolies) in 3 hours.

That way I preserve my number & get another 6 months access with Longlife prepaid plan, then changed to Simplicity plan to get 15c/min calls (total of 200 minutes or 250 SMS for $1!) over the 6 months.

  • Yeah, it's a special I've seen advertised at the registers. $40 recharge plus $2 SIM for $35.

  • Stingy deal…

  • I know this sounds silly buy wouldn't you take the $2 starter kits anyway. It's not like they make the deal dearer and you can give em away etc

    • Who would u pass it on to in this day and age? Have you considered environmental waste

      • fair point. I gave mine to some family/tourists in AU for a short time.
