Honolulu Return ex Bris $534, Melb $570, Syd $574, New $596, Adel $736 @ Jetstar

1020

In my opinion, this is the travel bargain of the week. Crazy return prices to Hawaii, which are at least $100 cheaper than previous Jetstar offerings. There's a ton of seats available, but they'll go fast at these prices.

Valid for travel 24/02/15 to 24/03/15, and 21/04/15 to 18/06/15. Expires 23:59 04/01/15.

Here's the proof:

Brisbane
Melbourne
Sydney
Newcastle
Adelaide

Pay by POLi or an Australian issued Mastercard debit card to avoid any booking fees.

Merry Christmas to you all, and happy travels :)

Just went two weeks ago. When you get there remember sales tax is about 5-6% and then you gotta tip everyone 10-20%.

    • +3

      Everyone?

      • +4

Well most likely you are doing tourist kind of things… tipping taxi/shuttle drivers, waiters, even checkout people in some cases. I was exaggerating quite a bit. But you kind of have to add on 20% for tipping and tax before you add on 20% for the exchange rate.

Apparently not as bad as mainland US from what I heard about the service industry.

    • i only tip for certain services…

Mr Pink is that you? :)

What's with all the negativity here? It is an awesome deal posted by OP. The bargain is for the airfares and not for sales tax and tips there.

    • +3

      It is a good deal.

We should be sharing our experiences so that you don't get caught out when you budget for your trip and don't plan for these hidden costs.

    • +1

Don't think they're being negative? Just giving a heads-up on other details.

    shame the dollar tanked..

  • Do you travel a lot TA?

For amount of travel bargains you posted mate OZB should buy you a holiday

      • Never would have guessed it based on the budget-oriented travel deals you post. I suppose you're on a full-time salary then? Thanks for your support anyway.

  • Planning on travelling to Hawaii for honeymoon after August 30 next year. Is there a good chance there will be further sales for that period? Might still be early for them to publish for those dates.

    • There are sales on all the time to most destinations. I think sub $600 might be a stretch, although if oil stays low or the $ increases you might see something this good when you want to travel. Also August is Summer over there so prices might be higher due to higher demand.

TL;DR -> Probably some deals but not as good.

  • Where a nice place to stay that is also reasonably priced? (Or does this not exist?)

just checked expedia, hotel prices are crazy

    • On the beach.

From previous experience, B&Bs are the way to go. Way cheaper, less noisy, friendly local knowledge from hosts. You just don't get beach frontage a lot of the time (if you care about that).

The B&B we stayed at in Maui was probably the best accommodation experience we've ever had. In 2011, 4 star hotel prices were around AUD$300-400 per night in Maui. I think our B&B cost around $150 per night with taxes.

Just wondering is 2 weeks a reasonable time for Hawaii? Going there with the GF, so mainly relaxing/ sight seeing. She'll want to shop like mad too.

Plenty for just Oahu. You can do everything in a couple of days. Big Island (active volcano) worth a few days, Maui a few. Other islands great as well depending on how much time you have.

    • Yup plenty.
If your gonna go do the touristy things do them every second day. Going back to back days will wear u out and u feel rushed.

    • Thank you

    • You don't really need more than 3-4 days on each island.

  • I always recommend waikiki sand villa; good mix of OS visitors, great pool, nice bar with locals and tourists, easy walk to beach. I try and stay in a Pualeilani Junior Suite; if I have any money.

Flights from Honolulu to Denver or Salt Lake about $560USD return. This is a good option if you're planning a skiing trip as these are normally $400 return from LA plus you can have a hawaii stopover on way to mainland US. Would have to look at baggage fees especially if travelling with skis as some LCC will really gouge you here

    • Skiing in the summer…

"Valid for travel 24/02/15 to 24/03/15" ie prime NH ski season!

    • What airline? Is this the normal price or a special price?

Thanks for the deal! Just booked flights for my partner and I over the Queen's bday next year (6 - 14 June) through Flight Centre. Got them to price match ($2 off) so there was also no credit card surcharge, then used the $200 Flight Centre gift voucher from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/165229

Worked out to be $508 each from Sydney, including 15kg checked luggage for the return trip.

    • double deal

  • I booked my flights with Jetstar to Honolulu a few months ago, and the same flight is a couple of hundreds bucks cheaper now. Does anyone know if the price match guarantee is still applicable in this situation? Would Jetstar refund or provide a credit voucher for the difference?

Edit - finally spoke to a Jetstar rep who confirmed the price match is only for new bookings. Doh!

Partner and I are looking to fly to Toronto in early May. Would Honolulu be a good place to change to a flight to Toronto?
