  • Hows NTT Docomo coverage in Niseko - map shows nothing but that doesn't seem right….

    • +1

      Hi digitalane,

I used the website (http://opensignal.com/coverage-maps/Japan/) and when i searched Niseko, NTT Docomo seemed to be the only network that came up to have coverage.

I also did a search of "NTT Docomo coverage Niseko" and there were a couple of threads stating that NTT Docomo was good for travelers in that area.

      Hope that helps.

Docomo has full coverage at Niseko, was there in Feb.

  • How to activate the SIM? Thanks

    • Hi YYY

The sim card is activated when it first connects to the network. Some devices may require the APN settings to be updated, this is all noted in the english instruction booklet provided.

I hired a wifi device on a trip earlier this year and it was invaluable. Great for using Google Maps on phone to navigate the rail and subway systems.

I thought it seemed a lot of money, 2 devices with unlimited 21mbps for around $150 for 3 weeks.

But boy was it a must, made everything so smooth, as you said invaluable. I would happily pay double for it.

its cheaper to get pocket wifi with unlimited data from Japan-Wireless.com …

      • +2

Bro have you even been to Japan? Any one who has been knows what you said is completely misleading and poor advice. Good luck getting free WiFi when you need it. Most of the available hotspots are restricted to subscribers of mobile services. You can get free WiFi just mostly around JR stations, Starbucks and a select few convenience stores and that is more sparse than it sounds.

Data only Sims are much cheaper than with voice and today you don't really need voice with Skype and instant messaging apps if we need to get in touch with mates on the trip if we split up.

        • My thoughts exactly. I'd have loved to have had this on a recent holiday; we foolishly assumed wifi would be everywhere but quickly learnt that in Japan mobile data is king.

      • Just come back from Tokyo last week. We ordered the b-Mobile visitor sim before we headed to Japan. Around $40 for 14 days with 1G data. So if you stay for more than 2 weeks, the offer by SimCorner is a better deal.
Free wifi is not that easy to be found in Japan. What's good now is the Tokyo Metro stationsand Toei Line stationsare offering free wifi as well as a few restaurants.

    • Does that come with a phone number?

  • Hi SimCorner any more USA simdeals coming up??

    • Hi Kangaberries,

No date set, but hopefully there is one soon. It seems to be pretty popular so I'm sure they'll have one up again soon.

  • Personally I find this misleading

How do I know what my Japan phone number is?
Your phone number will be printed on the back of the sim card pack so you can tell your friends and family before you leave > what your phone number will be.

When the offer on their page clearly states

Japan Prepaid DATA ONLY SIM Card

So you aren't going to get a phone number.

Cheaper options on whirlpool thread posted previously.

    • Hi Fybre,

      Thanks for the feedback.

This was an error by one of the reps when they put it up as they were using a template from previous sales.

      I have deleted this.

      Thanks again

  • Op… I know you've posted here about Japan but I'm interested in this Bali one:

    http://www.simcorner.com/indonesia-prepaid-sim-card.html

It states its $20 and I'm looking at this particular one:
2.1 GB Data and RP 43,000 credit

Is there any other fees? Ie - activation etc?
Is this for 30 days of usage?
What if I need more data?
Is it suitable for both an ipad and/or iphone?
Can I tether on this SIM to my macbook?
    How do you activate it?

  • I just tried to order 3 to save on shipping and the coupon code only applies to one SIM card. Do I have to do 3 separate orders????

    • Can you please try ordering again. We have fixed the issue - you should see the discount applied to all three items.

  • Hey! $55 is a rip off! If you buy a so-net Prepaid directly from Japan, it's only 3200yen. (A$33) http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B00LL3Q8VK/ I bought this before, it uses NTT docomo network. amazon.co.jp can send to your hotel in Japan. You can even buy it from airport. http://www.so-net.ne.jp/prepaid/en/

  • Plenty of cheaper options here.

  • Any chance of sharpening your pencil a little more Rep?

As it's much cheaper to pick up a SIM one up at one of the Mobile centre counters found in each airport on arrival.
