yikes. even at half price it's still expensive.

    • It depends a lot on destination, duration and how much data you need. For an upcoming Thailand trip this is looking like the cheapest I've seen.

I wonder if anyone has reviewed these many different eSIMs in a real travel situation?

It’s not a bargain at any price if there is no service.

I took an eSIM on a work trip to Vietnam earlier in the year and the work phone on Telstra $10/day roaming was usable the eSIM on a newer higher spec phone was not.

This is buying “a pig in a poke” and in my N=1 experience it was not a good pig.

I did go back to the suppliers customer service and all I got back was an electronic shrug.

  • Done a few esims and mostly no major drama.

Some providers send you a QR code activation via email and not the QR code where you initially purchased feom.

Noticed some people's phone can be networked locked or not esim capable depending on the region the phone came from even when the model phone said it is esim capable globally.

Make sure you have reliable internet when activating and wait till it completes the activation and after confirm the data is switched over using the new esim.

I'm referring to getting 3G on the same network as the roaming device was seeing 4G.

Same brand, the eSim in the newer model.

Side by side - in the pub.

As ever, "your milage may vary" but I had a bad experience.

      • I have only ever come across two esim service that is exactly same as the sim counterpart Indo telekomsel and one in Thailand. Hopefully more carriers will come online as time passes. Rest has been data only esim service and i pick the provider that uses the carrier with most coverage where I can. It's usually why they are cheaper.

  • Please note that it has a "start before" condition… purchased today (24/11/2025) it mentioned needs to be "start before" 24/2/2025 to avoid expiration :( so the expiration is 3 months

  • Got Global 5GB 60 Days for about $25 for a Fiji trip this Christmas - hopefully all works out :)

  • Free 1.2GB of New Zealand data for FlexiRoam Customer

I have 1.2GB of data expiring in 17 days (Thursday 9th January 2025) to share with anyone since I've completed my New Zealand trip. To share it with you I need your account number/customer ID so please PM me to arrange.

Navigate to the Account screen of the person you would like to share Data with & look for the QRcode & ID number at the top of the screen.

I get no benefit from this. This is to pay it forward to the OzBargain community that has helped me in the past.
