    Genuine SJCAM brand?

    • +1

Reading last thread, there is a big question mark though!

    • After discovering that the SJ4000 that I bought is a clone, I still can't really find what the difference is, except that the menu looks different and the phone app. Can someone please enlighten me?

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsDfatvQSs4

      • did you buy from same seller in previous deal?

        • No I didn't. But the picture in the groupbuy is an exact match to the one I got except mine says Wifi on the front. Definitely not a real SJCAM, but then no one has been able to tell me why the real one is better?

      • Based on that video and a few others I've seen:

        • Original has slightly wider field of view.
        • Original has decent sharpness when close to the subject while fake gets blurry.
        • Fake is sharper when subject is far away. Might be oversharpened and you may get better results with footage from the original if you sharpen yourself but not everyone will feel like doing that.
        • Different colours/white balance. Fake might be a little too saturated (looks nice in some scenes) and original is flatter (might be better if post processing).
        • During some of the night scenes that I've seen, you can see more highlight detail with the fake.

But who knows if they're all using the same fake camera or if they're using different fakes.

  • $65

  • Not sure if real or fake but I have a $30 off coupon so I might give it a shot.

    • if they are both fake, then probably.
this group buy seller xpressnez claims theirs are genuine though.

  • +3

Bought one from the last groupbuy which I received yesterday.
    - Comparing the details from http://www.foxoffer.com/blog/2014/07/05/the-difference-betwe… and https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/about-the-sj4000-actio… with the one I ordered, housing looks like the photos of the real version, menu is the same grey menu as the original
    - Updated firmware to one downloaded from SJCam, did not brick device however the OK button stopped working. Applying an older firmware fixed the issue as reported here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2090990&page…

If anyone would like me to test something specific let me know.

    • 1) do you know what firmware it arrived with and what firmware you loaded (the good one)
      2) depending on answer to (1) is there any point updating the FW

      • Stupidly didn't check what FW was on it. Just wanted to try and load a SJCAM FW to determine if it was real or not.
        Running the N20140809V01 SJCAM-SJ4000 FW now…

        • Ok, mine arrived today.
          N20140902V01 SJCAM-SJ4000 firmware loaded.

    • did u get a charger with it?

      • I didn't get a charger. The manual shows the charger as one of the included accessories.

        • Ok i did look at seller original post and it did not mention a charger. just wanted to double check as the manual included it in its listing. maybe this is why it is cheaper. anyhow dont really needed as I have plenty spares…

  • Anybody have one of these? Any good? A lot cheaper than a GoPro, would like a camera for my bike but dont want to pay gopro prices.

  • Very tempted, but I already have a Contour. For owners of this camera, can you please advise if the menu has a setting for timelapse mode? Thanks.

  • New SJ5000 Plus coming out in the new year but costs more than double. Interested in the M10 (with WiFi), any deal?

    • Apparently the m10 is just a re-housed SJ4000.

The Sj5000 Plus does look good, but it still doesn't appear you can stream video to your phone which is a bummer.

  • Battery: removable 3.7V/900mAH lithium battery. how long to record?

    • about 90mins

  • I'm almost convinced that this is for a fake/clone camera. There'sno mention of SJCAM anywhere in the description either. That said, if it works as well …. perhaps it's an okay deal?

    • nvm

    • Does it work as well or does it work close to as well which is about the same as other $60 action cams?

  • Has anyone used the SJ4000 (genuine or clone) for photos? How about under water photos while snorkelling? What's the image quality like? Is it really 12 megapixel or do they just interpolate to get to that resolution?

I am fed up with losing 3 different Panasonic Lumix 'waterproof' models to seals failing within weeks of the end of the warranty (fortunately 2 of them just before!). Something like this with an external housing seems a lot more fault proof.

  • I sent a msg asking if these are clones or not. I was going to buy, but was put off by the fact it was not branded SJCAM. So if it is real it must be old stock. More probable that its a fake though.

    • here's the replies I got from same question already asked last time:

  • I just bought the WIFI version. Everyone is trying to sell off the non wifi one, genuine and non genuine
I bought the wifi one so i can have live underwater pictures by using an antenna cable thats lowered down under water with the cam :)

    • "antenna cable thats lowered down under water with the cam :)"
      how did u do that?
I have the wifi version too. Would love to hear about your setup. (A photo or video would be very helpful)

  • Does this help tell if it's genuine sj4000?

    • Assuming the photos in the full Ebay link (see below) are of the actual product then, yes it does. For example: the real one is shown with silver coloured screws at the front of the housing, this one too. The fake one uses black screws.

Also, the photo of the screen shows "SJCAM-SJ4000", which according to foxoffer only the genuines say.

But who is to say that the photos on that Ebay page are of the actual product?

Mine (from previous deal) is per the 'real' photos in link above.

Per this link I received the first row of the first pic (real nonSJCAM badged version)

      N20140902V01 SJCAM-SJ4000 firmware loaded.
Was missing the 240v charger block, but had the USB cable and all other accessories
Edit: deal doesn't mention that it comes with a 240v block… It was just pictured in the booklet.

Have now up voted the deal. I can't find anything to suggest I have a fake

      • did u have the same firmware page - is this what you based it on (real question not a swipe) ?

        • +2

Same fw page (albeit blue on grey, not blue on blue)… Edit: a photo of blue on grey comes out blue on blue
          Silver screws in case
          Silver H264 on box
Four rubbers in corners of case

          http://imgur.com/t0N9zZA
          http://imgur.com/86m9ghw

Showing menu is blue/grey but can also show as blue/blue depending on camera angle & lighting

        • @battler:
is it possible to get you to post a picture of the front of the camera showing the water proof case and also screws on the front of the camera / case.

          Thanks

          https://www.facebook.com/jmb.synergiz/photos/a.5121607622192…

having a look at that picture I'm wanting to know if it has silver screws or black screws around the casing. Also if the surround around the top button has that slit in it. Also the fake looks to have a rougher lens surround.

          Thanks

        • +3

          @MasterSpoon
http://imgur.com/OiExln3 <— first photo taken with the device :) (under a flouro so a bit blurry)
as mentioned above, it has silver screws.

per these photos it satisfies all of the 'real' pics.

          @battler:
sorry must have missed that while I was reading.

          Thanks for your time confirming

off to buy a camera now

      • Thanks a lot for that confirmation. It seals the deal for me, will vote positive too and will buy one. Only a little sad that yellow and blue are sold out aleady.

      • +1

I can also vouch for this deal, ordered mine from the previous deal and it arrived today, I've been playing around with it a little testing video quality and image stabilization.

It's NOT a GoPro on a image stabilizing gimbal, but it does produce very good quality video, and it doesn't shake as much as I expected, I've been walking around the house holding it in my hand and testing focus and going back and forth dark and bright areas, I have also tested the waterproof casing, it locks in pretty tight though I haven't and probably won't test it to 30m depth

For $65 I would say just go for it, way cheaper than most dash cams and better than my full hd navig8r dash cam, and you can take it for travels and not worry about rain and dropping a $65 camera

        • I haven't and probably won't test it to 30m depth

Stick a load of tissues in the case and take it down…..
if they stay dry….. it should be ok.

  • Recommend that buyers also get a floating handle from ebay etc for $5-$10

    https://www.google.com.au/search?q=floating+handle+gopro

    These cameras don't float!!

  • Email from the seller

    Thank you for your email.

    it's real SJCAM

If you have any other questions, please feel free to let us know . We are very glad to help you.

    Have a nice day:)

  • Ordered yesterday, delivered today. Wow

    • Thats crazy, I thought these shipped from HK.

      • Nop, Sydney

        • did u get a charger with your unit?

  • Timing works out well with this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174805

Picked up a 32gb card for my new SJ4000!

  • as a footnote for future reference, this is not a genuine SJ4000 - its a good clone at best.
now they tried to tell me its OEM but even as an OEM they should be able to handle the original firmware an it doesnt.
i, like many others judging by the feedback left, have been unable to get a refund on this product.
ontop of the firmware problem, my particular unit has issues charging…appears like overcharging to me (never appears full) - could be simple as a dud battery but even that is not worthy of a refund apparently.
my opinion is this particular mob (xpressnez) rely on turnover and consumer ignorance of product to get past the amount of complaints to keep themselves above the ebay min feedback score.

    • Did you pay with PayPal? Cause last time I received a non-genuine item claiming to be genuine, PayPal made sure I got a full refund. :)

      • +1

i have been trying to avoid the whole paypal scenario but i probably dont have a choice and honestly dont think its worth it. one of the other tricks (and i reckon thats what this mob will do) some of these sellers are pulling is "yeah you can return it, here is our address in China" - now for the cost of the item, is it worth returning ? then explaining to paypal all of a sudden that your not going to return it because of the cost of sending overseas with signature approval ? On principal i should claim it.

there solution has been to offer a $10 compensation in exchange for removing negative feedback, which is another common thing i am starting to see more of.

        • and yep sure enough, return address is Hong Kong.
