OzBargainAirFi

Dear OzBargainers,

Mike here from MEElectronics. During my last few posts I was asked many times for a deal on a few of our wireless headphone models, which I promised to do. Unfortunately OzBargain rules prevented me from posting it sooner, but here's what I could put together for an OzBargain-exclusive holiday offer.

The prices below include standard shipping to Australia.

Air-Fi Matrix2 (AF62) - $74.99 delivered after $30 discount and $2.95 off shipping
Note: This is the latest version with microUSB charging

The second-generation of our audio quality-focused flagship headphone, tuned for a neutral and accurate sound with just a little bump in the bass. It supports both aptX and AAC high-definition Bluetooth audio codecs to ensure as little audio compression as possible with every device. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0, NFC connectivity, built in mic & controls, and wired audio functionality (stereo cable included). Battery life is conservatively rated at 22 hours play/talk time and 350 hours standby. It has just recently gotten some great audiophile reviews, for example from InnerFidelity and The Headphone List

Air-Fi Venture (AF52) - $52.99 delivered after $22 discount and $2.95 off shipping
The Venture is an over-ear headphone in the same form factor as the Matrix2, but it's tuned for more bass and lacks the HD audio codec support, NFC, extended battery life, and nicer fit and finish of the Matrix2.

Sport-Fi X6 - $44.99 delivered after $21 discount and $2.95 off shipping (out of stock)
The X6 is an in-ear wireless earphone from our Sport-Fi line, based on our best-selling M6 model. It is designed first and foremost for a secure fit in the ear, as well as sound quality on-par with our popular wired earphones.

Air-Fi Journey (AF16) - $31.99 delivered after $14 discount and $2.95 off shipping
The Journey is our entry-level wireless headset. Is is an earbud/earpod-style design. Very easy to use and secure in the ear, but because it's an earbud it has a slight sound quality disadvantage compared to proper in-ear earphones and larger headphones.

Note: all Air-Fi headphones feature built-in microphones and remotes for headset functionality

Promotion link. Coupon Code: OzBargainAirFi . All prices in USD. Promotion ends on December 11th. Limit: 2 items per order. When you order more than one unit, shipping is combined and each additional unit nets an extra $6 off (so 2x X6 units will be $83.98 instead of $89.98).

Delivery times vary but are typically between 10 and 20 business days for standard shipping. FedEx shipping is also available at an additional cost and typically delivers in just a few days.

As always, I will gladly answer any questions as best I can in the comments below. I can also be contacted by private message or by email at mike(at)s2einc(dot)com .

All questions and comments are welcome!

  • How much extra is Fedex usually?

Going to finally bite the bullet, but wouldn't mind before Christmas delivery :p

    • +1

It varies by weight and also destination. Typically in the $25-45 range for Australia if I remember correctly.

      • Sorry is the fedex economy fine or does it have to be the priority for the few days delivery option? My browser i super old at work and only shows the very start of the shipping options, ie "Fedex international e"

        • The difference is only one or two days. I believe it's something like 5 business days for Priority and ~7 for economy.

  • Just bought it from amazon :( $10 more than this

EDIT : btw mike : is this one the latest series?

    • Yes, it's the latest MicroUSB version

  • @mikemeelec: Just jumped on ozbargain to check if the deal was on, only to find the deal was posted 15 minutes ago. Love your work Mike! Bought the X6 but the Matrix is tempting as well.

    • Thanks for your order!

  • +5

I have the old Air-Fi Matrix2 with the mini usb and un turnoffable low battery voice prompts/nags.

How is the new Matrix2 different and is that voice now turnoffable? :D

    • Sorry, voice is not "turnoffable" :(. I have only heard the low battery warning a few times because the damn thing lasts so long on a charge. I can see how it might be annoying if you run your battery down a lot, though.

  • +1

Hey rep what would be the best option for connecting the Air-Fi Matrix2 to a TV without Bluetooth.
    TV has aux port

    • Hi jumped on the Sony B1G1F deal and realized my TV doesn't have Bluetooth so have been looking into options.
You would need to get a Bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the Aux out on the TV.
Something bothersome I have also read is that Bluetooth headphones tend to lag which causes lip sync issues with TV viewing.
Not sure if the digital sets like the RS160 would have this issue too?

      • +2

This is the right answer. In the case of the Matrix2, you will probably want a transmitter that supports aptX because latency is lower on aptX than regular Bluetooth (something like 100ms vs 250ms). Both the transmitter and headphone have to support aptX.

  • +1

    Sport-Fi's are super tempting!

  • I have a few pairs of the earphones. Really like them. But I have lost the ear tips so many times when pulling out of pockets or my ears. I wonder whether iI didn't clip them on properly or the design was not tight enough. Anyone else also had this problem?

    • I have M-Duos. The only thing i don't like about them is constantly worrying about losing the tips cos the fit is pretty loose. Other than that, they're great.

      • +3

It helps to clean the tips and nozzles with peroxide once in a while because the wax and whatnot building up on the outside of the earphones and inside the tips tends to make things more slippery. If the tips are so loose that they won't stay on at all and you're within 1 year of purchase, they probably ripped and we should be able to send a replacement pair.

  • +1 for Matrix 2,but with the Aussie dollar slumping its the same as other sales.

  • AF16 looks identical to many other bt headphones:
    AresX Freedom
    IanSean Muset1
    Bingle F4
I wonder if they are all the same?

    • +6

The outer housings on these are off-the-shelf. Anyone can buy them and put whatever chipset/drivers they want inside. For budget designs it just makes more sense to go this way.

  • +1

So About $90 for the Matrix2, hmm

So tempting, AUD is so bad atm though ;(

  • Perfect timing on this. Started looking around today for bluetooth headphones.
Order placed for a Sport-Fi X6. Fingers cross it arrives before xmas!

    • Will they work with phone while also using a Bluetooth chest strap?

      • Assuming the chest strap isn't doing audio, yes.

  • +1

Hi Mike - definitely keen on a pair. If we do need to send in the earphones because they're defective and under warranty, do we get charged for shipping?

    • +4

Typically, no. If we can verify the problem remotely (via photo or video or whatnot), or it's a known issue, we won't ask you to send them in. That probably takes care of 99% of cases.

  • Mike, still waiting on a response for my question about the matrix 2 a couple of posts up?

    • Thanks for the response. If I have the old matrix 2, is there any reason for me to upgrade to the new version, apart from the new MicroUSB connector?

      • +3

As long as it's a Matrix2 (and not an original Matrix), I would say no.

  • Ordered 2 Air-Fi Matrix2 (AF62) - Order# 74085. Hopefully can get this before Christmas…

    • Thanks for your order!

      • Mike, do you think this can be delivered before Christmas?

        • Not sure, delivery times to Australia with regular mail vary pretty widely. Most orders seem to come in about 10 business days, which will make it.

        • +1

Will make sure this is shipped out with the first mail pickup of the day.

        • +1

@mikemeelec: Thanks for your great service Mike!!

  • +1

Can we possibly change the limit of 2 items to 3? It seems kinda silly for me to buy 2 and get them shipped in one pack then buy another and get it shipped in another pack. I'd probably just buy the 2 and skip the 3rd.

Matrix 2 and Sports-Fi for me and my wife.

    • +4

The limit is there because there's a hard weight limit on the packages we can ship via regular mail. A mix of Matrix2 and Sport-Fi should be okay though. If you send me a PM or email, I can issue a custom code with a limit (3) for you.

      • Sent you a PM.

  • +2

After their last deal that I grabbed, I've become a fan of MEElectronics. Really love the product photography as well, makes me think to myself that I'll look groovy too while wearing their products :P

    • +5

Our graphic designer will be thrilled to hear that. Her Birthday/Christmas all-wrapped-into-one gift this year was an in-house photo studio, and much of the time we're just using friends and family for models.

      • +1

        Yeah she's talented. Good find.

  • +2

    Speaking of looking groovy…

Lisa Simpson: I can’t afford any of your products but can I buy some fake white ear plugs so people think I have a myPod
Apple Woman: Sure! Those are called myPhonies. Oh, and they cost $40.00
Lisa Simpson: (after Krusty gives her his myPhone because he hates it) I’m a Mapple person!!
Apple Genius: We’re all Mapple people.

    • Great episode, and one that I think back to for every Apple press event and product launch.

      • +2

Wait till they integrate Beats in their product line - myPhonies will become reality!

    • +4

      But… Lisa needs braces.

  • Hi Mike, I've been looking at a pair of wireless headphones primarily for running.

I have a pair of the M-Duo, which I love for sound, but find they fall out extremely easily even when walking, because of the bud size/weight.

Between the X6 and the AF16, I assume the X6 would be recommended for exercise? Also, are the bud tips the same sizes as the M-Duos?

    • AF16 and X6 will both stay in pretty well, especially compared to the M-Duo, so it comes down to the X6 offering better sweat resistance and better sound, and the AF16 having less noise isolation (if you run in the street, with traffic, this is safer).

The eartips on the X6 will fit on the M-Duo nozzles (it's a tight fit) but the M-Duo tips will be too loose on the X6.

  • Thinking of the air-fi journey for riding my bike to work. What's the battery life like?

    • +1

About 5 hours straight music, 7 hours talk, somewhere between 5 and 7 with mixed use.

      • Thanks

  • Does anyone have a pair of matrix 2? How comfortable are they for all day use? Are the earpads as comfortable and soft as Bose oe headphones?

  • bought one AF16 Black. first purchase with MEElectronics. Looks like a good design ear-bud headphone.

  • +1

I have the older Matrix2 (mini USB). Seriously good. I bought them for listening to podcasts while out walking, but they're actually quite decent for music as well, which surprised me quite a lot. Not up to the level of my DT_990s or Westone UM2 IEMs, but easily good enough to use happily.

    • +1

I am looking for a pair of comfortable over-ear headphone. Some reviews said the cups on Matrix2 is on the small side and they sit on-ear (or the edges just touching ears) rather than over-ear. How do you find them?

      • I fund them pretty good up to about four hours a day. I have a largish head (XL hats, etc).

    • How do you compare them to wired headphones while walking?
      Any drop-outs?

      • +2

MUCH prefer them to the cabled type. No connection/quality issues at all, and MUCH nicer to use.

        • Thanks, bought.

  • +2

I personally bought the older version of the AirFi Matrix edition and it's a tough, high quality model that I have used on and off for over a year without any problems. Signal range is also quite strong; I was able to use it whilst mowing the lawn with the tethered device still in my house. Battery is quite good, doesn't require daily charging with regular use.

The only complaint I have about it is that it's not the most comfortable headset. It doesn't quite fit over my ears properly and it gets a bit painful after about an hour or so of use, so I've stopped using them. I don't really have extraordinarily large ears but I do wear glasses, for whatever that is worth.

Regardless it's a solid headset and besides the comfort issue, I'm more than happy with it.

    • +6

If you have the original Matrix (not the Matrix2), the pads are actually a little bit smaller than they are with the current one (maybe 1/2 cm smaller in total internal size). Doesn't make a difference for everyone, but for some people it's just the right amount larger.

If you can confirm that you have an original 1st-gen Matrix and think that an extra 1/2 cm might make a difference for you, I can see send you a pair of the new pads.

      • That's some good service right there.

      • Hey there, I have my receipt still in the box if that's what you're looking for. The Matrix 1 was the model that was able to both tether to your phone and another device at the same time correct? A larger pair of pads would be perfect!

        • +1

Yes, that's correct! If it has multipoint (i.e. multiple simultanous connections), it's a Matrix1. Just send me a PM or email with your 5-digit order number and current address and I'll get a set of new pads out to you.

  • Ok.. it works out now.. hey rep. how long does USPS takes to deliver?

    • Delivery times are in the original post. Please take the time to read it

  • +1

I purchased the new Matrix 2 with the micro USB port about a month ago and it's a very nice step up from the Matrix 1 I used for the last year. The sound quality is a great improvement and the micro USB is a nice convenience even though you very rarely have to charge it. Postage was very quick. Just purchased the X6, thanks for the great pricing!

    • Thanks and glad you've enjoyed your Matrix2!

  • +2

STOP TEMPTING ME WITH YOUR AWESOME HEADPHONES YOU DEVILISH STORE REP.

Owner of a few of your products and love them for the combined cost/sound you deliver. I will pass this time as I am a serial headphone buyer but be sure I will keep an eye for future deals. Happy to support the smaller businesses delivering awesome stuff !

    • +2

Other deals will certainly come along (cue evil laughter).

  • Interested in the Sport-Fi X6 but… not a fan of the tail thing (caused by cinch) at the back.. :/ .

What is the wireless range on it?

    • Unfortunately it's either that or the cable flopping around, which gets old fast, especially if you're jogging. Still looking for a better solution than a cinch.

Wireless range is the standard (for Bluetooth) 30ft line-of-sight in an enclosed space with a properly designed transmitter (like an iPhone for instance). Under real-world conditions with your body and furniture and stuff it's probably more like 15-20ft.

  • Mike, is there a way to mute the microphone on the AirFi Matrix2? I don't see a physical button the one headphones

  • +1

I have the Air-Fi Matrix2, paid $120 for them shipped. Best money I ever spent, I love these headphones it's rare you see me without them on my head now! Great sound, no connectivity issues, really light and comfy, battery life is almost too long as I always forget to charge them (easily get 25 hours play time out of them)!

  • +1

Thanks! Just ordered the Air-Fi Matrix2. Gave in to temptation.

  • -1

Hey Rep.. do you have anything that has mic in it aswell?

    • +2

Wireless or wired? All of the wireless sets in this promo have mics.

      • Hey Rep. I just got an email saying this item is Out of stock and that you'll ship it after 17/12.

This is supposed to be a Christmas gift. can you please expedite the shipping once you receive the item? I dont want to cancel my order as i am really looking forward to this after reading the reviews.

        Pls advise.

        thanks

        • I was just told this morning the X6 was out of stock and I marked it out of stock in the OP here soon after. We don't normally take backorders but if you can send me a PM or email with your order number I'll see what I can do.

          Thanks

        • @mikemeelec: Thanks rep.. PM sent.

        • @mikemeelec: Awesome Rep ..Gets 5 Stars from me in terms of service and communication. Lets see how the product is. Looking forward to this… Its a Christmas gift but if it is good I'll order it for myself too. Thanks again rep.

        • @accessdenied: We do what we can!

  • +1

Taking a chance on the X6. I have been looking for gym headphones in a while and I hope these will do well.

    Thanks OP.

  • Great deals Mike - what's the quality of microphones like on the Matrix2 and X6?

    • It's good on the Matrix2.

    • On/over-ears typically have an advantage just because the mic element can be bigger. X6 is pretty good, though - the best of our earphones. Should be about on-par with a stock wired headset for microphone quality.

  • Hi Mike,

What is the warranty like on Meelectonics headphones?

I bought a pair of S6P a couple of months ago and the right earphone stopped working after a couple of weeks.

    • It's 1 year warranty. If you are having an issue just send an email with your order number to [email protected] and we'll replace it.

  • I really wanted the sport-fi but it's out of stock. Will you be getting more?
It was going to be a gift for my dad.

    • Sorry, I don't have an ETA. Sold a lot more than I thought we would and with the holidays coming up there may be various delays getting them in stock again.

      • Can I preorder?

        • We don't normally do backorders because it's hard to anticipate all possible delays and we don't want to make any promises we can't keep. However, I can send you an email when it's back in stock if you email me or PM me your email address.

        • @mikemeelec:

          pm'ed you
I need to order 2 hope you get them back in stock

  • Ordered on the 8th and arrived today. Plenty of time for to wrap and put them under the tree.

  • Damnit. I forgot to order and now it's expired. Now I'll just have to wait until the next deal….

    • +1

Store Rep Mike is pretty good. If you send him a pm with what you are after he might send you a code to match the price. He has offered to do this for several people here.

      • Can't hurt to ask I guess. :)

  • Just got my headphones, they look, feel and sound great, paired easily. Got a set for the son for XMAS He is going to luv them.
