Tiger Airways is unreliable and unfriendly and not customer-focused.

My partner was meant to travel from Canberra to Melbourne tonight at 9.55pm - but they have now DELAYED the flight to 12.45 AM. They informed us of this, LAST NIGHT.

They've let us down in other ways, but I don't want to start another rant! :P

    Avoid Tiger.

    • Have you heard the saying you get what you pay for? lol

      • Yes, I have … but in this case, it costs more to fly with them in time and other arrangements we've had to make, than we've saved.

      • Have you heard the saying you get what you pay for? lol

The OP did not get what s/he paid for.

On a brighter note, this is better than canceling the flight (which Tiger is renowned for)

        • Sorry I disagree.
They paid for a cheap crappy flight with a cheap crappy unreliable provider :P

          • @MrEs: The following comment addresses the “You get what you pay for” view.

“i do expect to get what i pay for when i buy a cheap flight; a flight which has no in flight services, where you can’t take food onboard, where you are forced to walk 5 min from the main terminal and check in 2 hours before depature at an ungodly hour. that is all fine but at least a flight that actually leaves. tiger shouldn’t offer a service it is not prepared to deliver.”

    • The same happened to me last time. The flight is delayed for 3 hours till 12.30am but the difference is I was not informed until I got to the airport. I arrived there at 7.30pm so basically I spent 5 hours doing nothing in canberra airport. Oh ya, did I mention the flight attendant actually announced that it was a SHORT delay?

      • I had the same happen at the Melbourne airport.
Delayed by just over 5 hours, but did not find out until we got there.
7 hours waiting in the airport.
But they did give us a $5 voucher to use in the shop in their terminal.
Could buy a very small bag of peanuts with it, but that was all.

      • I've seen on "Airline Quality" web site that Tiger wants passengers to do checking-in 45 minutes before the original departure time, even if the flight is delayed. If this is the case, it is better they don't inform passengers about the delay.

"Did you know that if you are booked on a Tiger flight and that flight is delayed, you must still check in at least 45 minutes prior to the original scheduled departure time of the flight? Not 45 minutes prior to the new, delayed departure time?
        ….
When I pointed out that we were trying to check in 55 minutes prior to departure, she said we needed to check in 45 mins prior to the original scheduled departure time of the flight, not the new delayed time. When shown the itinerary that said check in closed 45 minutes prior to departure, not 45 mins prior to original scheduled departure, she shrugged her shoulders. "

    • Tiger sux harder than Debbie did in Dallas.

Tried them once approx 1 month ago, never ever ever going again.. even if it's a free domestic flight.

gotta love the writing under the phone LOL

"Complaints reduced by 35% per 1000 in the last 4 months compared to 2008."

Did they sack 35% of the call centre, thus reducing the amount of calls they took by 35% :P

Tiger only has 6 A320 aircraft in service in Australia. So as you can imagine one breakdown or delay and the chain reaction on other services is inevitable. Offering so many services without the equipment is just asking for trouble. I'll gladly pay a little extra to go Virgin or even s**t star knowing they've got the planes to back up what they are offering.

    • It might be worth mentioning that this does not apply to the fares here.
Tiger PER-SIN is separate from the domestic business, and has less delays.

On the bad side, onward connections in SIN tend to be inconvenient, often needing an overnight stay.

I do not fly with them at all as they are the only airline that charge for infants within AU and infants sit on your lap and do get seperate seat so what is the standard AUD 27 something charge for? 2 hr check in is a pain. No web check in, they must be living in 19xx. Their seats are cramped and normally if you are booking well in time other airlines offer similar value. For me being at the airport 2 hrs ealier could mean loss of income due to leaving work early so works out the same. Besides with other airlines in case of delays I have managed to get entry to their lounge but here no hope, lucky if your flight dosn't get scrapped. Try calling their call centre the line is like a poorest VoIP set up with crackling sound plus noise in line and hard to explain staff at the other end. Basically why would you need to call them you loose all your money or most of your money for any flight changes anyway. What else will you call them for Praises for flight experience! I know you get what you pay for and that is why after some flights with them and looking at the full picture I have worked out that there are better options. My 2cents.

  • Check out their self professed proud reliability record:

    http://www.tigerairways.com/au/en/on_time_performance.php

Only one in four flights off my 15 minutes or more!

    :P

That said, cheap is cheap. If you factor the crappy departure time into your plans, you can get a good deal and not have too bad of a time (if you're expecting crappy lateness, three times out of four you'll be happily surprised!).

  • Prices apply to Mastercard DEBIT card payments ONLY!

  • EDIT: Wrong one.
