  • So you're saying this is the best price but not..

    • Ahhh, Tricky Dickie strikes again…….looks like they're getting ready for the 20% discount on eBay.
Same item http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/eneloop-Quick-Battery-Charger-4-x… is $59.98 on eBay +$4.95 delivery as they don't offer click n collect there.

    • The other deal is for the overnight charger; andydew was basing it purely on price.

      • 2 sets for $49.98 from 5PM using $10 off $50 spend coupon SLASH10

        • Pity I don't need 2 sets.
With the 7.5% 'storewide' voucher it gets close ($27.74) to same cost per set though. Oh I forgot, that voucher is in store only.
The SLASH10 code is online only and you need to spend min $50….Tricky Dickie still has me over a barrel.

  • How does it compare to those $70 smart chargers? What can a smart charger do that this one can't?

    • +1

$70 smart chargers (LaCrosse, Maha for example)

      • Display how many mAh were pushed into the battery
      • discharge batteries, also showing their capacity
      • set different charging rates (not really useful)
      • "refresh" batteries with low capacity, raising their capacity

This one only charges, and doesn't have a display. It only has indicator lights to tell you when charging has finished.

    • @psdillon
This is the smart charger mate

Dude has a point, DSE seems to be the main supplier and every time the price fluctuates we see a new post

It's like 20 cents off those torches, we get a new post

      • +1

True in relation to Eneloop batteries, but not the smart charger as this has rarely been discounted.

      What are these anyloop thingos?

You've been on OzBargain since 2011 and still don't know?

  • so just to confirm..this is the one I want? lol. you know what I mean…this is the one Ive been waiting for? this is the one I need not avoid like the plague? This the one that came down to $30 @ Masters a month or 2 ago ?
thanks anydew….when you say 'Not as good as masters deal, but still the best price available at the moment'
How much was it at its cheapest from Masters?
    Was it $30 less 10% = $27 ?

    • I bought some from Masters a while ago for $20 posted here… But a few months back they put them up to $49 for some reason!

      • that was teh deal i was thinking about, but couldnt find the link in a quick search.

        • I paid $20 delivered from DSE. This post is top $.

    • +1

No, this is not the same as the Masters one.

      Masters are still selling: https://www.masters.com.au/product/100679971/eneloop-quick-b…
now $49.95 but was $29.95 a few weeks back.

DSE also sell that one http://www.dicksmith.com.au/camera-accessories/eneloop-quick…
and it is not presently discounted, still $49.99

That one also appears to be different to the one linked to by @Snoop previously $20 at Masters - at least the packaging is different.

      • +1

Yep, Masters still have the Gen3s (1800 cycles) which they're now selling at $49 (used to be $29). Luckily I managed to get some of these Gen3s for the $20 that I linked to for the Gen2s (1500 cycles). The charger (MQR06) is identical in both of these Sanyo packs.
Note: These have the Jap made batteries included!

  • Would rather hang out and try get the older model for this sort of price (if anyone ever does them again)!

  • Its not the best bargain, but its a bargain.
This charger is smart charger yeah?

    • Yes, it's a real smart charger with dV/dT charge termination, and charges batteries in about 2 hours from flat. Less if they weren't flat.

Be a little careful with it, though. The outermost two slots are "fast" charge slots. If you put a battery in these, and don't put batteries in the neighbouring inner slot, then the charger will charge the batteries in one hour. One-hour charging is generally considered to be risky, can damage batteries.

      • +1

I believe that advice applies to the Sanyo branded charger

This deal is for the Panasonic BQ-CC16 charger. I bought the BQ-CC16 in the previous deal and there is nothing in the supplied doc or markings on the case that tell you to use particular slots.

        • Oops, you are correct. My comment above is incorrect.

I have looked up the specs of the BQ-CC16, and it is good with any number of AA batteries. One or two batteries will charge in 2 hours, three or four batteries will charge in four hours.

Charge times for AAA batteries are shorter, 1.5 hours or 3 hours. 1.5 hours is a little fast for comfort, I'd be checking the temperature of AAA batteries if I was charging only two. If you can hold them in your hand just after the charge is complete, and you don't want to put them down because of their temperature, then that charge rate is okay.

  • Desc. updated

    • @andydew, the charger you are referencing in the link is the Dumb Charger for $24.98. Even during the COTD sale, the Smart Charger was $39.98 with $10 credit to be received later.

      • Oh, even better ;-)

    • +1

Except this is the overnight charger… sorry

  • Errrr, so what's the difference between Sanyo and Panasonic "Quick" (smart) chargers?

Sanyo MQR06W = https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/155010 (one that Snoop linked)
Panasonic BQ-CC16 = this current DSE deal

Reading comments in Snoop's link, it seems that the Sanyo are made in Japan and the Panasonic ones are in China. Part from that, same 'smart' functioning charger?

    • +3

The chargers are all made in China. It is the batteries only with the Sanyo MQR06W that are made in Japan.

Main difference I can see is that the Sanyo MQR06W has particular slots which are to be used for quick charging when only one or two batteries are being charged.

Charge times are similar when comparing same number of batteries.

  • Thanks for posting andydew

  • Do you guys discharge your eneloops before charging?

    • For some uses, yes.

I find that batteries used in high-current devices (flashlights, cameras etc) don't need discharging. I've tested their capacity on a few occasions, and it stays pretty constant, with slight degradation over time.

On the other hand, I also use Eneloops in remote controls and wall clocks. I have found the batteries used for those purposes lose quite a bit of their capacity, probably because they are only charged yearly. For those batteries, I do a full charge, then a full discharge (over two hours) to measure their capacity, then a full charge again. If their capacity was low in the discharge cycle, I'll run them through a few more discharge/charge cycles until their capacity comes back to normal.

I haven't had significant loss of capacity with Turnigy batteries, it only seems to happen with Eneloops. My sample size isn't huge, it's possible I received a bad batch.

Or 2 of these for $50 using the code here?:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/170741

    • Good idea. Having a second charger as a spare, guarantees that the first one will never break down.

    • Just tried the 'SLASH10' code on 2x of these quick chargers but no dice … but 'SLASH15' on 2x quick chargers + the $19.98 Tropical 8 pack (http://www.dicksmith.com.au/eneloop-aa-tropical-8pk-web-dsau…) works :D

      Two smart chargers + 8 Eneloops + 8 Eneloop Tropicals (image shows Sanyo/Japanese ones) = $70.91 (inc $5.95 delivery)

      Seems pretty good to me!

  • This deal is back on. I just bought one :-D
