Matte Black PLASTI DIP Aerosol $15 Per Can (40% off) @ Caswell Australia

411

EDIT 2: If you're in Sydney, you can pick up 2 cans of matte black for $17 each, if you're willing to venture out to the west. Thanks @asswipe

EDIT: Sorry but postage seems pretty expensive, unfortunately, at $15.
I paid $25 shipping for 6 cans to Canberra.

For those in and around Melbourne, I believe they allow you to pick up for free.

Plastidip is used for various purposes, most commonly used to 'paint' car rims, but also to protect paint or repair damaged paint. The layer of Plastidip is removable once applied and dried. There are some great videos about Plastidip on this YouTube channel.

Plastidip aerosols cost around $6 in the USA but it's apparently expensive to import. Autobarn sells them for $30 each, other places such as Caswell Australia charge $25 online.

Apparently Caswell is overstocked with matte black aerosols, other colours are available but not at this price. However, some other colours and Glossifier (makes things shiny!) are also 20% off at $20.

    great find.

i currently use this on my wheels and other parts on my motorbike.

i would recommend getting the glossifier too, only because it stays black longer helps remove brake dust easier.

you need about 3-4 cans for all 4 wheels, giving about 4-5 coats each wheel.

there is also a trigger gun you can buy, i find using that easier to apply an even coat

just bought 5 cans, pickup. save $20 delivery

    • where did you get your trigger gun from and how much?

is that the one how you put it on the top of the can?

  • wow that's heaps cheap…
I once contacted the AU distributor to buy 6 cans and they quoted me $24.95 per can

good deal for anyone who needs

So you can peel it of with your hands but the gurney wont strip it off?
I have hard enamel paint on the car that a gurney can strip off, i call BS.
I do wanna buy some though for other applications!
    Cheers. OP

I've plastidipped my motorbike in matte black.

Gurneys do not take it off unless you spray it from the side at the edge where the plastidip ends.
They do not like constant rubbing though as I'm finding where my motorbike seat rubs the plastidip, it is coming off.

On a car, I don't think this will be an issue.

      • What was your original material on the wheel? Im considering doing it on my cbr250r rims

        • -1

Powder Coat or paint in 2K

          @Steptoe:

          Which:-

          1. Costs more (if you pay some one to do it)
          2. Is permanent
          3. Takes more time (need to remove tires).
          4. Cannot be done yourself if you don't have the equipment.
  • now im just trying to think of things to plastidip for the sake of it lol

      • I plastidipped my Moto G rear case in white but I find white does not come out as smooth as black. Could just be the can though.

I've also plastidipped some keys but they didnt last long due to the constant rubbing of other keys in my pocket.

        I love plastidip!

    • I'm wondering if you can plastidip body parts.

      Goldmember comes to mind.

The theme song would be awkward though!

        • I wonder if plastidip bikinis would work.

      • You could go for the frostbite look.

I've recently used it to turn a black keyboard chassis blue

      • Looks awesome. How or where did you find the coloured keys?

Might be worth noting also that Supercheap sell Armorall Custom Shield in matte black, white and clear which is exactly the same as Plastidip (same manufacturer) but in 396g cans instead of 311g cans which Plastidip comes in.

Usually $25/can but Supercheap often have sales of up to 20% off so it comes to just slightly under $20/can for 396g of black/white/clear plastidip.

    • Thanks…seefu

      • I have used the armorall custom shield on my wheels in black and it has lasted a very long time. Still looks good now. I have also used the duplicolor equivalent which is $25 a can but in the big cans like the armorall. I bought the graphite metallic and sprayed my whole car. The finish is not as good as the black matte, it could have been my technique though. My roof look stuffed so I ended up peeling it off. It's a b!tch to remove if you don't spray craploads but easiest way to remove is to peel a little bit and then use a pressure washer up nice and closed and it will peel it off for you with ease.

        • I've used matte black Plastidip on my white car without any issues, but have you tried white Plastidip on black plastic? My side skirts are black and I would love to paint them white to match the rest of the car, but I'm hesitant to fork out money for the white cans if it's not going to work particularly well.

    • I never knew that existed, thanks! It looks to be very similar to Plastidip, but the range of colours is limited. I'd say the price is better though.

      • Very similar indeed. Performix Brand products is the manufacture of Plasti Dip and also manufactures ArmorAll Custom Shield.

    • "Usually $25/can…."

Thanks. Just fyi, the website shows it at $27.99 currently.

    • There's also a duplicolor product which seems to be the same thing. Around the same price as armor all stuff but more colours

Too bad shipping to WA is $15 for one can

    • A couple of cans to QLD is $15. Supercheap have the DupliColour cans for $27.

  • Anyone know if this would stick to brand new, flat pack Melamine Cabinetry? Want to use some cheap Kitchen/Laundry type cabinets in the workshop but cannot stand the look of white Melamine :( Thinking of using this just as a cover-all for the external vertical surfaces only (outside & edges of doors, one visible end panel & all kick panels) but not the benchtop. Reckon it would stick well enough? Only a light-duty clean type workshop, I wont be swinging greasy gearboxes around or welding RSJs etc.

You can also buy special laminate paint at most hardware stores to do that job and it would be much better and way more durable.

      • Cool. I did know that stuff existed however I thought a spray would be better. So just roll that laminate paint on and it looks OK? I'll have the benefit of being able to roll it onto raw panels before I assemble it so hopefully that will help.

$15 Postage just kills it for me

    • +1

Yeah, it's expensive if you're only buying one can. I've updated the post to warn others of shipping costs.

bdw just a suggestion to all those who looking to dip.

    check out mydipkit.

  • you can get 4 black cans on ebay for $60 with free postage. not a good deal unless youre picking up.

  • Armor All Custom Shield is exactly the same stuff, only much cheaper but colour availability is very limited.

    Check this comparison video.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ne3edUf_xXI

    • lol in the video he says plastidip matt blank 10oz can is $6.85 per can from DipYourCar.
      https://www.dipyourcar.com/Plasti-Dip-Sprays/

Another way we get ripped off in Australia

      • Apparently due to the nature of the chemicals, Plastidip is expensive to import/ship.

        • No, more likely the nature of the people in Australia who are willing to pay.

  • Do these products help with scratching/chipping your alloy wheels?

    • About the same really. $45.90 for 2 cans, including shipping.

      • True, however i went to their shop/warehouse in Auburn NSW a few months ago and bought 2 cans at $16 each (could have bought just one if i wanted).
And i'd also like to say that this is a fantastic product at whatever price! looks amazingly professional (if you do it right) and makes you're wheels look maaad

          then stop being so negative!!!

    • +1

Caswell is 90c cheaper (online shipped), but you make a valid point about picking up. Your link is cheaper for Sydney residents willing to pick up, but Caswell is cheaper for those in Melbourne. Either way, they're both great prices compared to retail stores such as Autobarn.

      • -1

But then again, gl lubricants sell at that price everyday if you are in sydney. So its not a sales promotion meaning you wont need to stock up. Also they have white color.

  • +1

Is it possible to price match @ any common stores around?

    Why doesn't officeworks sell this…

  • Does the glossifier work as a clear coat on top? I used the clear coat plasti dip and it doesn't look very clear.

  • i bought spray cans from $2 shot and sprayed over my rims,

being honest plz dont try this at home…it looks terrible.

    • for those who are wandering why i did so, is because my car is an experiment center.
ALso i have $2 green and back camo over my car YOLO now its washed out and no one can say what colour my car was is and will be.
But today i will put clear tape on so colur dont get washed out.
