Google Nexus 5 (16GB, Black) Ultimate Bundle ($409) + Free Shipping @ Kogan

490

This has been posted before by mazorn (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/167090) but it is back in stock now with free shipping. I was waiting for the next Nexus 6 phone and was disappointed as it was too big. I thought about the Samsung S5 but it hasn't got wireless charging built in. I know the Nexus 5 is considered old but it is a great phone so I was looking for a deal. Kogan has its problems but this deal looked OK to me.

Deal includes:

  • LG Google Nexus 5 D821 (16GB, Black) – Stay connected and entertained
  • Kogan Universal 6600mAh Power Bank – Charge anywhere
  • Kogan Premium Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nexus 5 – Protect against screen smash
  • Universal Phone Holder & Rapid Car Charger Kit (Android) – Use for navigation and chatting on the go
  • Qi Wireless Slim Charging Mat for Smartphones – Lightning fast speed
  • QuickCover for Nexus 5 (Black) – Stylish protection with sleep/wake function

For $409 with free delivery

Considering how expensive the Nexus 6 is, the Nexus 5 is such a great deal and phone.

    • +1

      1+1 offers better value.

      • +4

1+1 is also much harder to get hold of than a Nexus 5 :)

        • What's 1+1? = 2?

        • @mooreshady: OnePlus One. For a long while it was an invite only. Just recently they opened up pre-orders.

I'll be selling mine on eBay soon. It's too big. I've replaced it with a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.

          @tonyamazing:

LOL. my bad. Yes One Plus One. Best Android phone at their price range!

        • +1

          @tonyamazing: I went from a Note 2 to a OPO and I reckon its too small o_O

        • +2
        • @neos: It's a .2" difference isn't it? I don't see a big difference

      • +2

        Bigger size though :(

      • +1

Which aren't available in Australia, and if you do get one, you can't fix it.

Or when 1+1 aren't busy fixing their fundamental flaws, which aren't

        • +2

          Which aren't available in Australia,

this nexus 5 is from kogan.. an asian supplier

how is that different than buying a 1+1 from someone like DWI?
          no different..

Having owned a nexus 5 and updated to a 1+1, if you can live with the slightly higher risk of getting a dud 1+1 (and the increased sized buldge in your pocket) its a no brainer choice

        • +2

Buy a OPO from DWI and warranty is through DWI for 12 months.

Buy the Nexus 5 through Kogan and warranty is through Kogan for 12 months.

          same same.

        • @neos:

Exactly, if you care about warranty buy from play store.

        • @SBOB: "and the increased sized buldge in your pocket" :P

      • I value software updates most. Coming from a Samsung Galaxy S1 that hardly saw any software updates, nothing beats new features and security updates. Plus it sits well in my hand, and I don't trust Chinese developed phones - don't know where my into is being sent.

  • +1

ugh, I've been holding out for a price drop, this is awfully tempting however its not that much cheaper to buy straight from google, but you don't get all the extras… big decision!

    • +1

$20 shipping from Google, so they're actually more expensive. Does possibly allow you to get a free refurbished replacement if you break it, but that policy isn't actually written down anywhere, so a bit of a gamble.

      • This and the 1+1 are basically identical in price. It's hard to choose lol

        • +1

          easy choice.. 1+1..
          had a nexus 5, now own a 1+1..

Apart from instant android updates, the 1+1 wins in every way

        • @SBOB:
Not in every way … 1+1 doesn't have wireless charging. Something I now couldn't do without..!

        • +1

          @noz:

having had Qi charging on the Nexus 5 and even with a Qi car mount, I could live without it with all the +ve's the 1+1 beats the Nexus 5 in..

Its handy, but plugging in a cable aint that hard (and it charges faster.. something i worry about less as the 1+1 batter life is about double the nexus 5)

        • +2

@noz: well the OPO has a sexy usb cable if it helps

      • What do you mean about the free refurb replacement? Cause I have a small crack in the screen and they denied being able to do anything (called google play customer support)

        • I think he is talking about actual faults with the phone, i.e hardware issues etc that are covered under warranty.

        • @Malarkey:

Nah, I do mean a free replacement for accidental damage not covered by the warranty. I also pointed out that this isn't a proper policy - while I've heard stories of this working for people who've dropped their phone or whatever, they are generally based in the US (but some in AU) and the success rate varies.

        • @Alzori:

Right… how would I go about it? Contact their customer support?
          Thanks btw :)

  • +2

You'd have to imagine the price will drop further than this, once the N6 is released next month (hopefully).

    • Hmm, maybe. Would be more definite if the phone was a similar size (like the Nexus 4). This Nexus 6 (I believe) is just too big for some people.

  • +1

Without bundle $369. Is the other stuff worth $40 … maybe … not very good quality and will probably break after 3 months.

    http://www.kogan.com/au/shop/phones/android/?brand=google

    • $369 is very cheap! Good Deal!

    • I have two of the 'Qi Wireless Slim Charging Mat for Smartphones' and they are being working fine 6+ months

  • I've been using this phone for six months and I love it so much, especially the sqiggly typing for words. I'm still finding it hard to justify any upgrade to the Nexus 6. I bought mine from Google and it had a minor software fault within two weeks of purchase and Google replaced it within about a week (I wasn't even out of a phone over that time).

  • +9

For $400.. I'd much rather upgrade to 32gb.

With no expansion that space is more useful than a bunch of off brand accessories.

    • Agreed! You can always buy your own accessories later if you feel the need, however short of USB-OTG (which comes with its own limitations) you're out of luck when it comes to more storage down the track.

    • Also remember that the OS uses a bit. 16GB means only 11.3GB available on KitKat. Get the 32GB version.

  • can't wait any longer for nexus 5 price drop.
    bought one of these instead

Xiaomi pros would be excellent battery life and micro sd slot. Nexus 5 pros would be direct updates, much better cpu and gpu, much higher ppi

I wouldn't necessarily one is better than the other, even with the price difference. It just depends what features are most important.

  • +2

it's got artificial intelligence I tell ya. bought it a couple of months ago. it didn't work very well out of the box as it would restart itself and freeze, and then suddenly it healed itself and it just got better and better from then… highly recommended companion

    • +1

      Maybe NSA has lost interest

  • -4

Kogan, no thanks. Much better off spending your money elsewhere.
I wouldn't p1ss on Kogan if they were on fire.

    • Kogan is alright. Got a macbook from there for very cheap a few months ago, and sold my 3 year old one for the exact same price. Free upgrade

Also my gf bought a z2 off a friend who buys heaps of phones, and had got a 2 z2s, one from kogan and one from eBay. Hers broke, and she wasn't sure which one she had and the friend was overseas and unable to help much. The kogan invoice had no serial or imei on it. So she emailed kogan saying her broken phone might be from them or someone else, would they be able to check if she provided the serial number.

They didn't even ask for it, just told her to send it back and they replaced it. So they provided warranty service knowing that they might not have provided the broken phone. Which is pretty solid customer service

    • Never had an issue with them.

  • this or xiaomi Mi3? Xiaomi Mi3 ~$300

  • Buy an $8 wireless card on ebay (and a $30 charging mat) and you have wireless Qi charging on your Samsung Galaxy S5.

  • So from personal experience what does everybody think about the battery life?

    • average at best.. If using for work where i was requiring access point, navigation and bluetooth usage it struggled to last the entire day..

    • I get 2-3.5 hours of screen on time and Android Lollipop is said to increase battery life by ~30%.

Deal comes with a power bank if that isn't enough.

  • Cheers for the credit bruh.

  • Upgraded from n5 to OPO purely because got tired of using a powerbank to get through day, kinda miss qi charging though..
Was OK for light-mod use if using franco kernel and 4.4.2 radio firmware

  • "Kogan has it's problems" —> its problems

    • +1

Thank's for the grammar mistake - corrected

  • Out of stock! Just when I was about to order.

  • Looks like free shipping is still on too
