$1 McAfee, 2TB Slim Ext. HDD $129, Nighthawk R7000 $189 @ MSY

90

Apparently the deal started yesterday but it doesn't look like anyone posted it yet.

McAfee Anti Virus Plus 2014 OEM (License Key only) - $1
Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2.5" 2TB USB3.0 External HDD - $129
D-Link DHP-311AV 200Mbps Powerline AV+Mini Adapter Network Starter Kit - $35
Netgear Nighthawk R7000 AC1900 Smart WiFi Router with 4 Gigabit Switch - $189

This External HDD is much slimmer than the Samsung one from COTD last week, and from what I've been able to determine, this one is removable. According to one reviewer on Newegg (take with a grain of salt): "This is a 9mm tall drive. The internal drive is the M9T. I use these to upgrade PS4's hard drives." The cable is also really short apparently.
The Netgear Nighthawk R7000 is the cheapest currently available on staticice (especially for those of us not in the eastern states).

Now to wait for the great anti-virus debate. Get the popcorn ready guys and gals :D

    • Shall I start?

Run a completely sandboxed browser, and manually scan your downloads with ClamWin.

No stupid 'resident shield' to slow your system or wear your SSD's.

  • Why the link to tinypic?

The MSY front page has a scrolling 'deals' section but you can't pause it or go back.
Looks like someone has updated the link anyway. Thanks to whoever fixed that :D

That'd be one of the awesome mods…

  • Shipping 12.28 For $1 McAfee Key

    • Well McAffee regardless of if it's considered 'good' or not (it might be, im not here to argue effectiveness), has been branded crapware by the PC enthusiast scene for 'bundling' its scan-not-fix software with things like flash player. No matter the price, I'd put my dollar elsewhere.

      • You scan-not-fix'd his question.

        Bloatware!!!!

  • Any info/reviews on the Powerline Network Adaptor?

    • these days they're all much of the same.
LinustechTips did a pretty cool real world video comparison.

      In short:
Ethernet cable is perfect. <1ms ping and all that good stuff
Wireless was unreliable. Not dropouts, but ping fluctuations and speed fluctuations.
Ethernet over power was reliable, but slower (average of 5ms ping, but constant ping\speed)

      • These D-Link DHP-311AV adaptors any good?

I want to link 2x gigabit routers on opposite ends of the house. I realise it will be limited to running at 100Mbps bottlenecked due to the eth ports on these, but using it mostly for connectivity for my wired devices.

        • havent tried these specific ones personally, and I'd expect slightly under 100mbps if a whole house distance apart; but even that's well above 1080p streaming, so I'd still give it a shot.

        • @MasterScythe: I can stream 1080p pretty well with my Ethernet over powerline……doing this for 3+ years I'd wager…..

  • Waiting for the 500Mbs to be on sale…

    • I've bought/installed that TP Link model (TL-PA411-KIT) in 3 houses. WELL worth the price (<$60 for two units!). Works FAST & Instantly as possible. ZERO effort/software/anything required. Wireless free'd up for phones/tablets. Only gadget I'd score 100%, in 20 years.

If there was a special, I'd stock multiple sets!

      • Whats the real world practical throughput compared to 200Mbps ver.? Around ~6-9MB/s?

  • Thanks OP. Price matched the Nighthawk R7000 at Officeworks and it came down to $179.55. Awesome price considering JB HiFi is selling it for $319 at the moment.
