i'm somehow less impressed by these 2tb deals as time goes on

    1st thing is warranty

i bought 4 x 3tb for $122 and there was no need to open them with a hammer etc. and 3yrs vs effectively no warranty after i drop them in a server

    3-4tb is the new hotness

i still have some spare unopened 2tb expansions from the last deal

    • +10

Well there are people who only want to use them as external drive, not interested to breaking it open to put in a server.

    • Wow, 4 x 3TB for $122, can you please remind about this deal?

      • +7

I'm sure he meant $122 each

    Mains powered :(

    • +3

This is a desktop version, not the smaller portable version.

    • -6

I reckon mains powered is better

Price Match at officeworks for $75.05

    • You might have problems with that, in my experience Officeworks won't match promotional or online-special pricing.

      • Thanks Title updated.

      • +6

They will match promotional or online-special price, but they won't match coupon-used price

  • Online only kills a lot of deals IMO

    • If you're in the store, you could always just order it on your phone and then pick it up from the counter.

      • +3

But don't you have to wait for their email first?

  • +2

Nice deal monty, but will have to pass as its Dick Smith
just hate them, no deliveries ever or no stock

    • +2

I agree.. still waiting for my eneloops 14 days and counting. :( tomorrow going to ask for a refund! Useless bunch can't even communicate to let you know whats going on.

  • thanks..

  • This would be an alright price if it was portal :-(

Meh, website is too broken. Cant even buy anything with paypal or credit card. Quit Dicking around.

  • Why does $79 click and collect get more votes than $74 delivered https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/163037? Strange.

    • +2

That was then, this is now

      :)

      • Hardly, every time DS runs these reward codes it drops down to $79. This has already happened 6 times this month. It's almost the every day price.

    • Coz this one is "UNREAL" deal while previous ones were real :))

  • Good price.
I am still waiting for the drives with bigger storage to go on sale.

I am running out of space. I will probably convert four 1 TB drives to one 4 TB and save some space on my shelf and sell the existing drives.

Thanks for sharing that with us.

  • Ordered 1 for my Refurbished 42” Soniq 1920x1080 LCD (L42V12A), $159.01 (+ $30 Shipping) @ Soniq Online, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/165427

    Thanks OP!

  • used one of the $5 for $10 e-giftcards as well, thanks OP!

  • whats the RPM on these?

    • +1

They've been known to vary between 5400/7200rpm. It's luck of the draw, there's no way to tell on the box.

  • Can any one please tell me if i can take the hard drive out and put it into my desktop? Please also explain what is the safest way to open and what type of cable i need to instal.

    thanks.

    • +1

Yes, you can crack these open easily to install the drive internally, there are "how-to" videos on youtube. Basically need to get a flat head or something similar into one of the seems at the front of the enclosure, then slowly work your way around unclipping it.

You need a regular SATA data cable and SATA power connector, it's a regular 3.5" drive.

and you can quite easily open them and remove the drive, whilst salvaging the enclosure. so if you need to return for warranty or just want an external caddy for future use, you can. as long as you are careful and use a plastic tool to open, and take your time working the clips. thats my experience on the last identical drive i bought from DSE (74 del) anyway. mine was a 7200rpm barracuda.

      • Now that's winning :-)

  • Wow~ This deal is unreal~
    Thank OP.

  • Mine was a 7200 64mb cache barracuda.

  • GAH! Missed it again. I wish there was a email alert available at Ozb.

This code has come up 6 times this month already. Wait a few days and another $20 code will available. It's all very predictable.

    • +1

Just updated the post with a new code (20TODAY).

Good work JSQUARED and I'm even going to PM zcream to let them know the deal is back on.

Also congratulations on your new role. Well done.

  • Thanks MM :-)
