$20 LockPicks (down from $25), $45 Practice Locks (down from $54), Shipping Included @ PickPals

Hello OzBargainers!

We are now out of clear practice locks and clear spool locks. We still have plenty of introduction sets on sale and other items on the site. Thank you so much for your support!

Over here at PickPals we're ready for another sale! This time we've got a pretty interesting item for you: A clear practice lock. With this lock you can directly see the pins you are manipulating and learn how the internals of the lock function and work on improving your feel and technique. The clear practice lock comes with three keys, two cut to match the lock and one blank, these will allow you to see the action of the lock with a real key and a key that doesn't fit.

As with our previous sales, we are also selling the PickPals Introduction set at $20 (20% off our normal price). The PickPals introductory set comes with three picks (a rake, half diamond and a feeler) and two tension wrenches (a sprung wrench and a duel ended euro & standard wrench). You will receive these in a durable leather pouch.

A common question asked is why purchase our picks over the $5 sets manufactured in China. The reason quite simply is quality. Our picks are made of premium SouthOrd steel and are shaped for optimal feedback & efficiency. PickPals was founded once we realised the difficulty and delays in getting good quality lockpicks for a reasonable price in Australia, we stand by the quality of all products we sell and will never provide a product that we wouldn't be happy using.

The Items

Item 1:
Item 2: SOLD OUT
Item 3: SOLD OUT

Yes — You can use both codes at the same time, just enter them one after the other on checkout.

We want to ensure everyone gets speedy delivery, so we've ordered stock specifically for this sale, so once it runs out, the coupons will expire (oh no!).

Prices are inclusive of postage and all items ordered during our sale will be shipped out on Monday the 27th via registered priority post.

We Want Your Feedback!

Is the limited sale stock with fast delivery better? or would you prefer future sales to allow backorders given the potential for month long shipping times once our local stock is depleted?

Finally, what would you like to see us put on sale next? Is there something new you'd like to see us stock? Please, let us know :)

The Law & Common Sense

We provide these items legally, but you need to be aware of the law governing possession of such items. This document outlines it very well, read from page 17 onwards.

We recommend using these for hobbyist/locksport purposes within your own home only and on locks you legally own but are not in use. Picking your front door lock is not a smart idea as you may damage or break the lock causing extreme inconvenience, not to mention the cost of getting a locksmith to fix your mistakes.

    Seems legit

Gave it a vote just for being a quality orientated product, running out of these!

    • Thanks!

  • +3

Any possibility for a combined deal for the introductory set and the expansion set?

    • Hey kingmw, thanks for the great suggestion for a combined coupon! Unfortunately we aren't running that discount at this time but if you check back again soon who knows what you might find :)

      • +3

Thanks, I'll wait for next time then.

Buying in more from curiosity than anything. Hopefully I get some fun out of it!

    • Awesome! We hope you enjoy your purchase. If you have any questions whatsoever about your picks please shoot us an email and we will do our best to help you out :)

  • +1

OP, are you able to get the advanced clear practice lock? Or any other practice sets?

    • Hey TheBlackMini, if you shoot us an email ([email protected]) we'll see what we can do for you :)

In any case we will stock them in future :)

  • +1

Why not, could be a bit of fun and look to be decent quality rather than cheap junk!

    • +1

It is ridiculously addictive! We mess around with our own sets all the time! Let us know how you go :)

  • I still carry my ground down hacksaw blade from highschool.
It looks very similar to the second from the left.

It will only open the cheapest of padlocks, normally "flat" ones? but as a kid I had a huge collection of locks I'd obtained from letter boxes :( it was a hobby, never even looked in the mailboxes, it was more about the locks.

Never use it anymore, but one day wonder if it'll come in handy :)

    • +1

Haha that awesome that you have made your own (although, we don't condone opening locks that don't belong to you of course!) :)

We often get emails from customers telling us how they've saved $$$ from getting a locksmith in at 2am (even though we don't suggest using it on your own locks!) - you just never know the time they will be extremely helpful! We also love locksports which can be a lot of fun - there are so many different types of locks and picking techniques you can learn about.

      • +3

"we don't condone opening locks that don't belong to you" on one hand, "we don't suggest using it on your own locks!" on the other hand… now I am confused.

        • +4

Sorry, bad phrasing on my part.

We don't suggest using it on locks that are in use is what I should have said.Your own locks are fine as long as they aren't critical to you getting in/out of your house etc. This is due to the fact that picking can sometimes break the lock.

  • +6

Awesome. Elizabeth will love these lockpicks.

    • +8

      Booker, catch!

Perfect timing, i'm going to this bridge to practice my skill.

    • +2

With the nuisance that these locks are causing, it possibly won't be long before cities like Paris offer to turn a blind eye to people willing to pick and remove these locks!

    • +6

How to make money from that

      1. Sell these love locks for a ridiculous price
      2. Customers attach the locks to the bridge.
      3. Remove locks with a key
      4. Resell the locks for a ridiculous price
      5. ???
      6. Profit.

Better off with an angle grinder
Why don't bridges get made from concrete, then padlock littering would be dead?

Your vision for the world truly is depressing.

The clear practice lock says not for beginners. Where would I find a practice lock for a beginner?

This might take a bit more finesse than my usual tool the Halligan…

    • Bunnings or Masters is a good way to go. Just grab a couple of lockwood padlocks for a good start (get ones without the red text on them, they're a bit tougher).

  • +1

I couldn't get into the document. Apparently it was locked!

  • +1

I was under the impression that any and all lockpicks are illegal in Australia? Nothing would make me happier to be wrong, I've always wanted to try this stuff….

    • +1

Not true at all, the document linked in the header post outlines the regulations on a state by state basis. In some states they are illegal, in others only without good reason and in some no legal issues at all.

Its worth finding out what the status is in your state.

In WA it depends on the time of day you're found carrying them! It can be pretty strange :)

      • in others only without good reason

Perhaps you could produce a new line of dual-purpose lock/nose picks.

"Officer, they're for those hard to reach boogies."

  • +1

Perfect for breaking into Guses' house.

  • +1

I like the look of these, could be fun.

Look good quality, you don't want to show friends how pathetic their locks are and snap your pick off inside their lock.

  • Sorry but couldnt see any reference to lock picks in that document. Is it illegal in NSW?

    • +4

Not if no one finds out

  • +1

Hi OP, thanks for posting this deal :) Would we have much luck for a deal for the Nine Piece SlimLine set?

    • No worries :)

A deal for the nine piece set is definitely something we're considering for next time round. Keep your eyes posted!

  • +13

    Thanks OP,

My neighbour just bought some things I've had my eye on for a while.

  • Dang, plastic practice lock has sold out. I'll check back soon though, very interested!

    • +2

Don't worry, check back soon and we will have an updated deal for you!

edit: check out our updated deal!

Hi OP, it's there a way I can get notified when they are back in stock and on sale? Also, are these legal in NSW?

    • In NSW only a qualified locksmith can be in possession of lock picks. Also, from the linked document (which seems to be VIC laws) is the following:

"A person who, without lawful excuse, has an implement of housebreaking in his or her possession is guilty of an offence. The onus is on the person to prove the lawful excuse for having the implement in his or her possession.

An ‘implement of housebreaking’ is not clearly defined. The relevant factor in determining whether or not an implement can be classified as an implement of housebreaking is not the nature of the implement itself, but rather the purpose for which it is intended to be used." (Page 16).

      • Which is brilliant, because you know, I could just use a large rock to break into someones house if I were so inclined.. which is exactly what happened last time my place got broken into.

        • A size 12 or larger steel-capped work boot, usually does the trick, for any door without a tri-lock or steel frame. I guess that makes owning boots an offence too…

        • @kristo: only if you're wearing the boots with the intent to use them as an implement of housebreaking.

Does this come with instructions on how to use it?

I need to pay for my Eneloop and SSD habit please.

    • Hey Tsunamisurfer - we've got instructions on our site to get you familiar with the basics of lockpicking :)

  • If I try this on someone else's door, will you be my pickpal? =p

  • +7

Just chiming in here - I picked up a set of lock picks a long time ago from DX and proceeded to practice picking for quite a while. While I got "okay' I was never happy with the amount of time it took to pick a lock.

The last time PickPals posted their deal, I bought a set of their $20 picks. Lo and behold the metal is of a much higher quality and the tactile feel made it so much easier to pick. So much so that I can pick most 4 or lower pin locks in under 30 seconds.

I've put my skills to good use at work by picking some cabinets at work whose keys were lost (authorised by management) - and I'm now called the "Ninja" because of this :p

  • Hi OP,

any discount cods for the jackknife?
    https://www.pickpals.com.au/product/pocket-lockpick-set-jack…

    • Hey iamkuza - we're not running a promotion on those at the moment but check back soon! We run promotions on individual items frequently so you might just get lucky :)

      • thank you

        i'll wait for it then

  • I see no other use of these than breaking into someones house or when one looses their keys (in case of emergency). Now obviously I am missing something as this page shows a lot of interest for the lockpicks. Soo many people interested in picking locks?

    • Deep down, every man wants to be like James Bond…

    • +1

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locksport

People compete in lock picking as a sport. Some are just interested in knowing how locks work. If you know how a lock can be picked/defeated then you can use that knowledge to strengthen the lock or select a better quality lock.

  • Got my lock today. Can't believe it costs $45 for such a small lock! Great quality though, pins go up and down smoothly without getting stuck.
