Good prices, but most sale fares to LA that I looked at have horribly long layovers at Nadi. Is there much to do in and around that airport for 12 to 15 hours?
And that's the catch. Tourists equals revenue!!
No, there's nothing to do there. I had a 16 hour layover once there and solved the issue by staying at a hotel for $100. Broke the flight for me, so I arrived more rested than I otherwise would have but obviously there's extra expense (hotel, lunch, snacks).

Once you start to add in a layover where you spend coin on hotel, transfers, meals, incidentals then that needs to be added to the cost of the flight IMHO to determine the true cost. This excludes the value of time / opportunity cost (seeing more stuff at destination or earning more money). Personally if in economy I like a layover and build it into the trip.
When we went through Nadi a few years back the rule was you couldn't leave the airport if your stopover was less than 4 hours, from memory.
It was a very long four hours.
Fiji Airways are also doing Sydney to LAX for $1013 in Feb/Mar
