This really isn't a deal is it? It's not as though you get to keep the games after the 48 hours unless you buy them at the sale price. Every weekend Steam does free weekends and they're never posted (unless the actual discount is worthy of being posted). It's like a free rental and given the size of many of the downloads here it's questionable whether it's of great value to many gamers here (bandwidth caps) unless they go ahead and purchase with the to be determined discount (which is the actual deal).

However, it is a great lineup.

Not quite free. More like 'limited full game access' - essentially a demo.

On the other hand, Injustice is an awesome game!

  • +3

Please fix the title it's a limited trial of the listed games.
you don't actually get to keep anything.

    • anything.

Payday 1 is free forever if you claim it.

      • Payday 1 isnt on the list yes it's free but it isnt on this deal.
        payday 2 is

and yes i did claim Payday 1 lol lucky i didnt buy it during the steam summer sales earlier this year lol

Not worth a neg because free, full trials are handy (and this is the biggest free list Steam has ever offered for a weekend), but probably better suited to a forum post :)

    Happy gaming!

    • Game trials are always free there for no saveing so it isnt a bargain.
I agree that it belongs on the forum though.

      • +3

full game though, so might be good for basement-dwellers that finish a game in 5 hours

  • Not free, steam has these every couple of days/ weekends for a whole bunch of different games including most of the ones that are up there already. The deals may end up being good but will have to wait and see (you should post those deals, not this). Most of the games have been in various humblebundles (Awesomenauts,Blade Symphony?,Company of Heroes 2,Don't Starve, Killing Floor, Trine 2, XCOM: Enemy Unknown) and are usually heavily discounted in the steam sales. Also XCOM is free https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/163733

well I guess some of these games could easily be completed in a weekend (Trine).

  • no deal.. not free. as above.

  • +1

Quite a few of these games can be finished in a weekends time though, wouldn't say it's something to neg seeing as you get the full game, that would be like if people started to neg the free video rental from the kiosks because you don't get to keep it.

    • +2

But video rental is always a paid service while this is only a timed trial and has never been a paid service.
unless you actually buy the game which this isnt about.

      • Video game rental is a paid service though, granted not on steam but at video stores, online game rental sites and similarly with the upcoming Playstation Now.
        And it's the full game.

        • +1

Ive never been to a video store where they rent pc games

        • And? It's still the same game in most cases.

        • +1

@Venom_TAG: and what? my original point still stands it's a trial not a free game or something thats is normaly paid for therefor it is not a bargain and belongs in the forums.

This weekend, you could download Trine 2 legally, for free, play the entire incredibly fun campaign (about 10 hours) co-op with a friend or two, have an absolute blast, marvel at the drop dead gorgeous graphics and have it not cost you a dime.
Many ISPs such as internode even offer unmetered downloads from steam (not that trine 2 is a big download anyway).

This is a sweet deal, and if you cant manage to find a fun way to spend your weekend playing one of the 10 free games, then i am sad for you.

    • -1

Please don't be sad for me because I have a life and I don't have a weekend to blow on gaming only. There are people who play games over a number of weeks.

  • +2

Yeah change the title free 48h trial

  • +1

yea. this is becoming a trend..

after downloading Battlefield 4 - 25 gigs free for a week, most people would buy after that.

    i did.

dont get sucked in to buying games you wouldnt normally buy

yes. gotta love INTERNODE and free steam downloads!

  • Title changed.

  • Do you earn the steam cards on games on these weekend events? Cause that would essentially be gaining steam credit if you sold them.

    • No, Steam cards are not given out. Tried it last time when they had Sanctum 2 for the weekend.
