    • Thanks! Didn't think about using non-brand named ones

It's nothing to do with the brand name, it's the quality. I've never used Kogan ones but I've used other generics and they were rubbish, broke after a short period of use.

      • That's also true… anyone got personal reviews of the kogan ones?

I've bought some Kogans in the past and would never buy non-genuine again.. They disintegrated fairly quickly - actually falling apart whilst in use (the little metal shaft that the head oscillates on came out), which I've never seen on a genuine one - the brushes are ratty long before that would happen. It could be quite dangerous for children!

        • I've bought nothing but cheap no-names I get on ebay and I must be the luckiest man in the world cos I've never had any trouble with them. Those people complaining about them falling to pieces must have sharp fangs.

        • @shaybisc:
Got a link to the ones you buy?

        • I bought the Kogan ones and the 2 that I used broke within a few uses. They just stop oscillating. didn't bother returning them. I think the rest are still in the bottom of the vanity drawer.

Have also bought Oral-B branded ones from a Chemist and they did the same thing. Got them replaced, thinking it was a one-off and the replacements failed as well. Same batch, I'd say. Before I went back to the chemist, I called Braun and they said I had to go back to the place of purchase as them may be parallel imported.

        • @SevenSmurfs:

Can't say that I buy them all from here but this is where I bought my last batch:

      • Ah but clicking on Mr kindfaces link takes me to kogans sites and emblazoned across it shows a 12 month warranty.

Not sure how that works for a used toothbrush but if it breaks then surely you can return it.

"yeah i've been using this head for 11 months and it's starting to not brush very well"

    • The Oral B ones last 5 times longer!

      • but they're 5 times more expensive ;) hah but yeah I've just read up on the kogan heads, not very well praised.

        • Just had a quick read too… Oral B ones might be the way to go still

You know sometimes I wonder if this replace toothbrush at very short intervals is just a big scam. Ask Dr Google:

    Here we go:

Comparison of new and 3-month-old toothbrushes in plaque removal.
    Tan E1, Daly C.
    Author information
    Abstract
    OBJECTIVES:
It is often recommended that manual toothbrushes should be replaced every 3 months. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of new and 3-month-old toothbrushes in the removal of dental plaque.
    MATERIALS AND METHODS:
A single examiner blind, randomized study was performed in which 40 adult patients attended the clinic on two occasions following 48-h periods of no oral hygiene. Following plaque scoring, patients brushed with a new toothbrush at one visit and with a brush that they had used previously for 3 months at the other visit. Brushing time was 60 s. Plaque was then re-scored and percentage reductions in plaque scores calculated. The amount of wear of the 3-month-old brushes was determined by measurement of brushing surface areas.
    RESULTS:
Plaque scores after each 48-h period of no oral hygiene were not significantly different. The percentage reductions in plaque scores achieved with the new brushes were not significantly different from those achieved with the 3-month-old brushes. Both the new and the 3-month-old toothbrushes reduced plaque scores by approximately 34%. Compared with new brushes in the same subjects, no significant differences were found for plaque score reductions for 3-month-old brushes with minor, moderate or marked wear.
    CONCLUSION:
The 3-month-old toothbrushes were as effective as new brushes in plaque removal.

This experiment really tells us nothing useful, we already know a toothbrush will work well from 0 to 3 months because we're told to replace at 3 months. The real question is about using it longer than 3 months… how well does it work at 4,5,6 months etc.

      smh

      • In my experience the Oral B heads will cause a replace message to start up much quicker than 3 months. More like 3 weeks or that was what it felt like.

    • Wth is a blind random study

    • What about the general hygiene aspect of using a toothbrush for more than 3 month?

  • Anyone know the quality of the ones that COTD supply? I suppose these are probably parallel imported for this price?

    • Pretty sure they are genuine branded Oral-B replacement heads

    • I just asked COTD via online chat whether they r genuine before buying and they said "we don't sell fake items".

    • Anything I've bought from COTD has been grey import and not supported by local manufacturer warranty

  • How to get a $10 credit using the referral link if I am an existing customer?

    • A referral credit would indicate it was for a new customer, maybe sign up a new account with a new email address might work?

I've bought Generic and 'genuine' ones from Ebay. Never again.

These days I just buy them from the Shaver Shop. They are always on sale, at least every time I walk past.

    $20 for 2 packs of 3 = $3.33 each

Compared to $3.16 (after delivery) from COTD.

At least from the Shaver shop, you can be guaranteed they are genuine.

hmmmm, save a massive $75? that makes the original price $7.70 each?

    • yep, 3 pack at coles is $25.47

      • Wow..I suppose anyone on OZB won't pay $7.70 each though.

        • yeah you'd have to be mentally ill

    • I wouldn't be so sure they're genuine. Read the comments on a previous deal from them (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/147972) and you'll see plenty of people complaining about the lack of quality compared to the 'official' ones you buy at Woolies or Coles.

      • hmmmm very interesting. You wouldn't expect the a national retail chain (Shaver Shop) to sell fake merchandise, perhaps gray market but not fake.

I'll compare the last two packs I bought to the ones I bought at Woolies (half price). Hope they are genuine, otherwise, I'll get a refund.

  • has anyone received yet. I received mine. They are possibly fakes. look the same as the fake ones I bought form ebay couple of months ago and got the refund. I still have a fake one, kept it for comparison. I just compared with COTD's one with the fake one and they exactly look the same, even some tiny details like plastic edges, quality, color, etc. Has anyone received yet and compared with the original ones?

  • Confirmed: They are fake, I just compared with Woolies ones. Woolies ones are much superior plastic, look, bristles and smooth finish. What to do? how to get refund?
