If $10 was the standard price for a season subscription, where each episode is uploaded immediately after airing in the US, I might stop using Sickbeard. Until then, nope.

    EDIT: & DRM free.

    • +5

Yeah DRM is absolute bull crap.

If I pay good money for content I should not be treated like a criminal and be allowed to view my content on whatever device I want

      • -2

If only you appreciated that you're paying for rights, not content.

        • +9

I appreciate that and totally understand you don't purchase the actual content. But the viewing rights should be transferable between any device I see fit.

        • @PainToad:
Yep DRM means no Itunes, I purchased a show a few years ago and tried to stream it through my media server and it wouldn't let me so I went and downloaded it elsewhere even though I had paid for the rights to watch it! I love apple devices but they can stick their DRM!

        • +2

          @greydaniel:
DRM is due to the content owners (producers) wanting DRM.
All music from iTunes is DRM free as Apple lobbied the music producers to convert from DRM to DRM-free.
Let's hope they have same success with TV & movies

        • So he's paying for the right to be denied access on all but one device IF it works correctly and he has no problems? I do not condone piracy but I completely understand it. This is the content producer's fault. There should be a way for someone who's proven they've bought the right to watch the content to unlock it on any device of their choice.

        • @vikingbrad:

thanks - long time no hear user #5 :)

        • @greydaniel:
Well, at least it is a bit better than the google play / android world for TV and Movies. I mean you don't even have the option of downloading to your PC and streaming from there like you do with itunes. Hell, I have a new Sony smartphone with a 1920x1080 screen, and it tells me that my phone isn't compatible with the HD google play content, FFS.

I don't like the whole setup honestly. I'd prefer to download it, and plug a USB stick into my TV or PS3. Technically I believe there are ways to do this with itunes content, but takes time and money, and then you have to manage storage. I found it easier to just get an appletv, download to my pc (at off peak times), and watch at night via home sharing. Ideally, the whole setup would be better if appletv had proper storage for downloading shows, and a scheduler

        • @Mobe1969:
Wow I didn't know that, what a pain. Yeah I am a bit old school with that too, I have a usb powered WD drive that I swap out between the tv and the PC and just manage it all manually now. Saves having excess power consumption running a PC as a media server.
I agree Apple TV would 'solve' the problem, but I'm just not a fan of being forced to do something, call me stubborn lol.

        • @greydaniel:
An appleTV would "solve" it a hell of a lot better if it had at least a measly 50GB of storage for downloads…

I'm old school too. I still prefer the real media, and no way with my HD viewing volumes I could keep up with storage of it nor the bandwidth.

Google Play for video is really an abomination though.

Modern Family on sale too. Pretty good price for the new season pass (Season 6). $24.99 for HD. Given Fox have abandoned releasing it on blu ray now, the best legitimate way of getting it in HD. Especially for discerning people who don't like TV rips with the banners watermarks and other visual abominations….

    • Do you have a link that doesn't direct you to the app?

  • Taken the plunge; would cost me $5 to rent a season for a week at blockbusters.. might try Community season 4 in HD.

    • +1

It would take me a weekend to download a season.

    • +1

Community Season 4 at a lower price (compared to 1-3) due to missing the Dan Harmon factor. I have purchased it on iTunes for morbid curiosity purposes only. Will let you know how I go…

      • +1

No Dan Harmon and only 13 episodes instead of 22-25. Saw some eps when they were on GO! Not up to the standard of previous series.

  • +2

the bridge s1 in sd only $6.99 for the season. S2 hd $9.90 $6.99 sd.

also awkward all seasons (1-3) $9.99

    castle S1: $5.99, S2 - S5 $19.99
hart of dixie all season (1-3) $19.99

  • It seems it's also kids shows on sale and reality shows. Also it looks like current season passes have been discounted. Maybe apple has listened and has put pricing inline with usa

  • 12 hours of series 1 of Masters of Sex in HD for under $5 using my 50% off iTunes credit from Harvey Norman sounds pretty good, thanks to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/161627 !

    • If I didn't already have this one, I'd definitely go for it. Quality show from the episodes I've seen.

  • Definitely going to bite on The Fall with Gillian Anderson for $3.99. Using HN credit only 2 bucks!

ETA: Settled on Big Bang S7, Orange Is The New Black and The Fall. Should keep me going for a while.

  • Oh man that Falling Skies s4 at $9.99 in HD is tempting. The series 3 blu ray only came out a couple of months ago. Digital downloads are something I really try to reserve for stuff I can't get properly in HD (eg blu ray). Just too much time and bandwidth getting it.

And a shame they haven't reduced Elementary - a show I'd like to see but won't get it on DVD only

I with they had a proper website you could browse and buy from. ITunes truly is ghastly for browsing. Like you search "Justified", looking for the series, and you get a big list of episode resultys, then wait, then wait, then wait… and then get a list of complete series. It is too hard to browse, single tab interface, links just don't work (eg the itunes. one doesn't redirect to my itunes for some reason). Plus when you maximise it in windows, you can't get to your task bar again without alt tabbing. It is just rubbish

  • Looks like it finishes Monday according to the banner that finally showed up on itunes app yesterday..

  • Others mentioned but haven't verified:
    Falling Skies season 1-4 = $9.99

Falling Skies looks interesting. Is that price for S01-4?

From here (AUS store), S01 is $8.99 for HD

  • Bazinga!

  • The Microsoft Xbox store also have up to 75% off Big Bang theory and some other seasons under $20.
