UPDATE: I got my order last night (7/10), so at least some of us did I guess.

EDIT: after many people complaining about them cancelling and not refunding, I apologise, I had nothing to do with it but I'm in the same boat and not sure if I'm getting an order or not (I didn't get a cancellation email so it's possible?)

They changed the website - they literally said on that page that the "$1 fee would be refunded to your account"

How does HelloFresh work?
HelloFresh is a flexible subscription service. Every week we supply amazing recipes and all the fresh ingredients you need to prepare them. We take care of your meal planning AND do the grocery shopping for you.

When do you deliver?
We deliver from Monday to Wednesday between 2pm and 9pm. You'll know your day and time window when entering your postcode. We can’t give you the exact time that your box will be delivered so please make sure you provide delivery hints for us in case you’re not at home to receive your box.

Why do I have to enter my credit card details on the HelloFresh website?
You pay a $1 subscription activation fee. We need your credit card details to add you to our delivery database. Your card details will remain secure and will only be used by us if you continue your subscription.

Do I have a minimum time for the subscription?
No. You can cancel at any time after you've received your first delivery! You need to let us know by Wednesday night if you do not require a delivery the following week via your online account. You must let us know by this time because we commit to order quantities with our suppliers for the following week.

Why isn't my voucher working?
There could be few reasons. Please make sure you live in our delivery area, that the product you have selected corresponds with the voucher you bought, that the voucher has not already been used, and that the claim period for the voucher has not ended you can always get us to check it by live chatting with us on any page of the site.

  • I'm getting 'Voucher invalid'. OzBargained?

  • +2

Seriously, when they get 350-450 orders (my estimate) in the next 24hrs I'm really skeptical about this actually going ahead. If it does, what's the bet we'll all get a mouldy carrot, a tin of broad beans and some rotten lettuce in a soggy box thrown at our door step?

    • +2

None judging by my experience the last 6 months.

They've been advertising heavily the last few weeks and so far I've had no issues.

Remember they're not all in the same area.

Cancellation emails are rolling in. I signed up within 20 minutes of this deal being posted.

    Wow!

We never expected the response we got for our Stay at Home Mum campaign! Thousands of you signed up, and the volumes caused our system to act in ways we have never experienced.

As we mentioned on the website, we had to limit the number of subscriptions for this offer. Unfortunately you just missed out and as such we have had to cancel your subscription.

We love the Stay at Home Mum community, but unfortunately there is just no way we could fulfil every person that signed up with this offer! However, stay on the lookout for the next exclusive offer.

We apologise for any issues this may cause, and we hope you'll consider signing up for our newsletter to receive more exclusive offers and deals.

Yep, I was in very fast as well. I sincerely doubt that people getting in that fast weren't in the first 1000.

      • +2

I agree, this seems a bit fishy

        • I just rang then, and they DID confirm that they were honouring the first 1000. Left my details for them to get back where I ended up being on the list and to confirm that I did miss out. Very suspicious that I wouldn't have been in the first 1000 with how fast I signed up though. It wasn't even over 500~ clicks through OzB.

      • I wonder if OP got it.

        • I didn't get a cancellation email and waiting for delivery today!

    • Just cancelled my subscription to avoid any nasty surprises.

      "Your cancellation is now confirmed"

      Not sure why…

    • Got same..

  • Received the email saying the order has been cancelled, however logging into the system it still says I'm receiving a delivery on Monday. See what happens.

Interestingly the email does say they are cancelling the subscription, so you shouldn't receive future boxes either.

    • Thanks for the thumbs up!

  • +6

the thing is, there is no way i would buy a box the way the site is set up currently as nowhere does it list the ingredients your purchasing, you'd be paying $64 for an unknown box of items which could have anything.

At least this trial offer you are prepared to see what its like before commiting further.

Now they have my credit card details, and taken $1, my mobile number, my postal details etc and asking to join their newsletter…

If they had 1,000 orders limit, why did they let the system take more? I also signed up within moments of it being posts on here.

I am hardly going to trust them by handing over credit card details again in the future with the next deal

and i dont even know if the subscriptions been cancelled? will i still be billed?, if their system took more orders than they could fulfill, whats to say their billing system is any betteR?

  • +5

    I want my $1 back.

  • Cancellation confirmation email:

A quick note to thank you for giving HelloFresh a go and also that we're sorry to see that you’ve decided to cancel.

Your cancellation has been processed immediately. After your final delivery on 13/10/2014 you will receive no further deliveries. "

Lets see if anyone turns up on 13/10/2014.

    • The cancellation is quite tricky as they ask you if you want the final delivery for two weeks time 13/10 or to end it right away. Just make sure you haven't asked for another delivery on 13/10 as the last delivery Skype be between 6/10-8/10.

I am going to do it. Claim my $1 back

    • +5

yea, sure. I am not sure why it happened. They have such a full proof system and could easily make restrictions on use of coupon rather than wasted everyone's time and their time of sending emails.
Or they just wanted subscription to market saying these many subscriber.

Really bad way of doing business.

  • Order cancelled :( Anyone got their $1 back??
They didn't mention anything about the refund in the cancellation email…

    • "They didn't mention anything about the refund in the cancellation email…"

Yet the OP mentioned in the title of the deal, from the outset, that the $1 would be refunded ("$1 checkout fee refunded")… that turns out to be BS, as well as the entire "deal"; I got charged it, as I'm assuming from the comments, did everyone else. What did you base the claim that the $1 would be refunded at the checkout on, OP? I reckon now that it's emerged that thousands have paid $1 to HF, and none of them will be getting anything, this is a question quite a few will be asking.

      • (profanity) off, I posted the deal from the page and I quoted what they said there (all linked from my post). I'm not responsible for how the company handles it. I have zero affiliation with them and signed up myself too.

EDIT: the (profanity) changed the website - they literally said on that page that the "$1 fee would be refunded to your account"

This is crazy, when I try to cancel my subscription I have to click a minimum of 5 times before I can actually click on the correct button.
Also, they grey out each time so it is not the "cancel" button that reaches your eyes first.

    Then
"We’re sorry you’ve had a problem with a previous order.
One of us will be in touch post haste to sort things out.
Please note, as you’ve indicated you’d like to speak with one of us, your subscription remains active for the time being."

What? I am still subscribing? No way.

When I want to cancel and close everything = Ok. Your cancellation will be confirmed by selecting your reason for cancelling and pressing "Confirm Cancellation"

Even if I have selected the reason for cancelling !

    • +2

      Traaaap.

    • Thanks for posting this akas, yet more telling objective evidence that at best this mob are unprofessional/lack integrity, and at worst they actively engage in manipulative deceitful practices.

  • My order cancelled too. Did anyone get one?

    • +4

No, no one will get one. The company may organise a couple of stooges to say on here that they were one of the "lucky first 1000/ box is great" etc., but it's blatantly obvious that actually, this whole thing was either a catastrophic failure that was completely abandoned, or an ill-conceived scam that was never even intended to result in any $1 boxes actually being delivered. I guess they didn't realise that hell hath no fury like OzBargainers scorned… I doubt they will be able to regain any sort of reputation in the market-place after this. They're through.

  • +5

    $1 x .,… subscriptions = $$$$

    Good Job HelloFresh.

  • +7

Got the cancellation email and here is my reply to them

Thank you for wasting my time. I understand that there is a limit of 1000 orders for this coupon. However I can't see any reason why my order went through if it was placed after reaching the max usage of that coupon code. I could only see two reasons for this. You either have a shitty website that can't even stop accepting orders once the max number of orders for a coupon code is reached or you just want to gather customer personal data with dodgy promotion and sell it. Nobody knows if you are really fulfilling 1000 orders.

Please don't sell my personal details to anyone and refund my $1 soon.

  • +4

I say everybody put a PayPal dispute against them for that $1 :)

    • yes. I have done it in paypal and hope paypal will take some action.

    • Already onto it :) it's the principle more than the value, it's only a dollar…

    • So I called PayPal myself for the dispute and I am told because we used a coupon which essentially reduced the cost of the goods/services to $0, the PayPal buyer protection cannot cover the $1 subscription fee.

They also did say that my subscription to them was still "active". They've put a stop on that subscription now.

Going to go through my CitiBank Signature Card for this dispute now.

  • +5

Fuxxers, please boycott this company even if you wanted to keep ordering!!

  • +2

I must have made it into the first 1000, my order hasn't been cancelled! Sounds like a very dodgy system though, I'm hoping the box actually gets delivered…

    • +2

"I must have made it into the first 1000, my order hasn't been cancelled!"

Erm, sadly methinks you are mistaken Becs… check your "spam" or "promotions" email folder; I got the two "order confirmation" emails in my normal (gmail) inbox folder, but both the "notification of cancellation" emails in my "promotions" email folder.

      • Nope, nothing in my spam folder, and I received a follow up text message today confirming that I would receive my order next week. I'll update you on Wednesday to let you know if it's delivered or not.

  • I have got an answer from HelloFresh - (I have requested my details + account to be deleted)

    Hi ****,

I'm sorry to hear you are upset about us being unable to fulfil your order. I confirm that the $1 charge will be refunded to you and I have deleted you from our system.
With thousands of people claiming the order yesterday, unfortunately our systems were unable to handle the sheer volume of orders we received. We hope that you understand why we had to cancel your order.
We hope this has not inconvenienced you too much and that you can still enjoy this beautiful long weekend.

Erm, "Leesa" signs off on aka's email above, and "Sahra" signs off on this one.
So even their emails apologising for deceiving us are signed off by ludicrously named, fictitious people?!?
      Sigh.
What a shameless gaggle of geese.

  • My email:
    Wow!

I understand that there was a limit of 1000 orders for the HEALTHYMUM coupon. However I can't see any reason why my order went through if it was placed after reaching the max usage of that coupon code. I was given this coupon code via a friend and with genuine reason to try a new food delivery service (I shop with Aussie Farmers Direct) I signed up to Hello Fresh.

I am concerned about the reasons behind this offer being revoked and wonder if Hello Fresh is going to protect my personal data or inundate with dodgy promotion and sell it.

Nobody knows if you are really fulfilling 1000 orders. There has been no mention of this on your FB page.

I would also appreciate being advised when Hello Fresh will transfer the $1 back into my credit account.

    Regards,

    Their response

    • Nothing like an 'understanding' response… via a generic email reply.

  • It looks like the HelloFresh website is so rubbish that THEY can't even cancel a delivery for the following week if it's after midnight on Wednesday. That would explain why accounts are still showing a delivery due next week - my account says I'm due for a delivery on 7/10 and my subscription is cancelled from 8/10.

    • I didn't get the "We never expected the response we got for our Stay at Home Mum campaign" email, but I got one cancelling my subscription and saying my last delivery will be on 6/10. Think we'll actually receive a delivery on 6/10?

  • +5

very dodgy !! Somehow doubt this is legal they took the order and debited the $1 so they accepted the order. Whey should have stoped taking orders after 1000 if they only wanted to do 1000.

Doubt they had any issues dealing with the volumes as the streets are littered with their $30 gift cards that are given out in papers on the street etc. so they would have been ready for volume !

    • +1

  • We went for this but no cancellation so far, fingers crossed.
You notice they took the birthdate as part of the sign up? Maybe they are vetting it to females of child bearing age only?

    • Are you suggesting you are a female of child bearing age "Queen" TA?!? ;-P

      • "I am Brian and so is my wife"
        (signed wife up)

  • Same crappy e-mail for me.

And I've emailed them about the $1. Instead of just reporting the $1 to paypal, we should collectively contact the ACCC to investigate. They have debited $1 from 1000's of people as they just admitted, but no one has received the actual refund.

  • -1

    Got scammed.

    Putting dispute into Paypal.

I signed up when I saw it pop up on the stay at home mum Facebook page. My order has also been cancelled. I assume they must have cancelled all orders that were placed, which is really poor form!

After complaining about them not refunding the $1 they finally put it through. Just threaten to put dispute with your credit card company. They put the refund within half an hour of sending that e-mail.

        1/ We registered my wife
2/ She is the right demographic to be a "Mum"

        Seems we are on!

        • +1

        • +2

I actually saw it and ordered when it was initially posted on the Stay at Home Mum Facebook page and mine was cancelled. I would fit the demographic as I am a mum! That was long before it appeared here. Will be interesting to see what happens with yours.

        • @hootabelle:
OK, well it was just a possibility. In that case I have no idea why we got through.

        • @GnarlyKnuckles:
          Lol, lemmee see 3 meals/2038 and several cartons of matches (chopsticks) should be able to stretch that. No worries (:{

          " lemmee see 3 meals/2038 …"

Actually it's 3 meals FOR TWO bro'… what are you, some sorta scammer?!? :P

    • Ok, now I'm really confused:

"A quick note to thank you for giving HelloFresh a go and also that we're sorry to see that you’ve decided to cancel.

Your cancellation has been processed immediately. After your final delivery on 06/10/2014 you will receive no further deliveries.

Thank you very much and hopefully we’ll be feeding you again soon!

      All the best,
      Tom
      Founder & Managing Director"

After receiving the initial email, I got this moments ago. So looks like we will still be getting the free box???

      • +3

No, we won't. There's no way they would deliver the free one to us, but cancel the ongoing subscription to the paid ones, themselves. The communication that you have received is just more evidence of their mismanagement/ misrepresentation/ laziness/ unprofessionalism etc.

        Contrary to their erroneous communication:

You have NOT "given HelloFresh a go" (you've tried to, to no avail).

You have NOT "decided to cancel" (they've cancelled, not you).

Your cancellation has NOT been "processed immediately" (even their cancellation process has turned out to be a drawn out, ambiguous, torturous saga of uncertainty).

There will be NO "… final delivery on 06/10/2014".

So, at least four different bits of BS in one very short communication; seemingly because these guys can't even be bothered to try to fix a potentially "company destroying" mistake of monumental proportions. More and more, things like this lead me to believe this whole stunt was some form of cunningly orchestrated "exit strategy". "HelloFresh" creditors/share-holders, take note.

Mine's getting delivered on Monday (6/10)

  • In the email it says: "As we mentioned on the website, we had to limit the number of subscriptions for this offer. Unfortunately you just missed out and as such we have had to cancel your subscription."

so do we need to cancel or will it be done automatically if we werent one of the first 1000? how do you cancel a subscription via paypal? all i could find was dispute option so i did that?

      1. dispute for your $1
      2. go to my account>profile>my money>my pre-approved payments>cancel your subscription with hellofresh.

      Thats what I have done.

      • Thanks. it is hidden deep inside.

    • Definitely put in a dispute for your $1. I still haven't gotten mine back.

I guess I'm lucky. I received mine yesterday (on a public holiday as well!)

Came with some chicken and steak nicely kept cool in a foam box. A bunch of veges and herbs with a packet of Spaghetti. Some spices as well as a block of parmesan cheese.

Looks great for $1 but time to cancel :)

I got mine too, quality is nice and i like the convenience factor. I don't like how you cannot specify dietary requirements though. (otherwise I would actually order again and pay full price when I m time poor to shop)
