  • is it really good? how about price/performance?

    • +3

Too old? With the 970 out it makes most cards obsolete

      • +1

Compare everything to the awesome 970 or 750 before buying, this is from an AMD fan.

        • also r9 270x and r9 270. They are the best value / budget graphic card !!

      • It's still double the price, hard to beat this for video editing/rendering.

      • Price and performanc are fine, the generation improvements are fairly standard, except for the significant reduction in power need. For this price this card is very good, but if you can get a that you want 970 for low $400s that its probably worth it.

        • The reviews I've read suggest a high end system playing a high end game will draw the same power with either card. Other parts of the PC have to work harder to push out ~60% more frames per second.

    • +1

This GTX680 SOC version is on par with the GTX770 & 280x OC editions.
Cost/Performance is incredible considering for the same price you can only get a GTX760 or 270x Toxic.

  • 650W, that's a lot of power. Same problems with older generation Nvidia cards, too much power wastage.

    • +1

TDP of a GTX 680 is only 195 watts. Its a lot more powerful than the previous GTX 580 which guzzles 244 watts.

Sure not as good as the GTX 980 with 165 watts.. but not too shabby

    • +3

evalord, that is recommended PSU wattage - card itself uses about 200W

This is good for those looking to SLI with an existing 680

By itself, still a pretty decent card for 1080p gamers.

  • I Highly doubt these cards are brand new, they have been discontinued a long time ago. Could these be repaired/refurbished ones sold off as new? I cannot find any other retailer who has them in stock, and they havent had them for over a year…bit fishy.

    • Computer Alliance had them some time ago for $400, many of these high end GTX680s never really got sold due to their high price point.

This card sounds terrible. Not quite loud, but terrible. Gigabyte had the wonderful idea of blowing air across the PCB, at 90 degrees from the usual GPU cooling layout, and while their idea was good in theory, when you use 5x40mm fans to do it, this sounds like a bobcat. I helped a friend build a computer with this GPU and I had my reservations when he showed me it. When he first turned it on we all burst out laughing (except for him of course) because it sounded like he had a cat trapped inside.
5x40mm fans is a terrible idea, don't do it.

      Agree…

But undeniable performance so I say get it and a pair of earbuds…lol

    • This is true, when gaming mine is LOUD, if you have the speakers up no big deal or if you use head phones. If you want a quiet pc, don't buy it. This is at 1440, at 1080 its not as bad

They also don't use a reference board layout, so adding it to a water loop (cheaply with a second hand block) isn't easy. Finding a new water block is impossible now

  • Nah thats not a good price for a gtx680

How about 113.27 delivered from our mates at tmart

    http://m.tmart.com/GeForce-GTX680-2GB-DDR3-384BIT-PCI-E-Grap…

could one of these be just as dangerous as a cheap psu… maybe someone with money to burn and time to kill could buy and review one.

  • I've got one. I am building a PC for videoediting, so higher level of noise is not a real issue for me.

  • Can any one who bought this comment on what they received? Specifically the condition they received this gpu in?

I was expecting a 'new' sealed product not what I received.

    • bought a 680 SOC… the bracket that you put screws into the back of the rig was bent and there are smudge marks around the card like it was handled before

also when i plug it in theres lines of yellow pixels just spammed horizontally across my screen and when i install drivers to run it, wont boot to OS

not sure if broken or just me.
