I'm wondering if this as a projector / screen combo on the cheap would be worthwhile as a trial run…
(I'm considering the Epson EH-TW9200W or Sony VPL-HW55ES but neither are in the budget at the moment - not counting a motorised screen hidden in the ceiling since I want everything hidden away.
My thought process is that if I purchase the projector listed here - even thought it's nowhere near comparable to either of the models I listed - if I use it regularly enough, I can comfortably justify splashing out the cash on a higher cost/quality unit - if it sits unused within a few weeks, then $250 is easy enough to write off for a few uses)

I bought about 6 packets or approx ~200.
The issue with the Fairy ones is due to the liquid/dis-solvable plastics they don't have as long a shelf life as the normal tablets. I notice that my Finish Quantum looks a bit dodgy after a year or two.
As I had existing ones, my 200 fairy ones should last me about 2 years, equal to it's shelf life.
i run my washes everyday, sometimes twice if i do massive cooking. (family rarely eat out) so that sort of hoarding works well for me. (along with massive amounts of toilet paper :)
The ones that turned dodgy was the ones i bought from online groupbuys 2 years back.. i got close to 600 tablets too. They were dodgy from day 1 and washes never turn out dry on its own.
since then, i've only bought from colesworth.
My finish ones were from colesworth but old. I think the issue is that the packet they come in isn't airtight.
If they are used up within 2 years then I can see why you bought 750 of them.
They were super cheap and I find better than finish.
Hopefully they will have another sale in a year or so.
I don't stock up on toilet paper, I find quilton go on sale regularly.
@JB1: oh, the way i horde the TP is i use them as a primary buffer to hit the $30 min to get the fuel voucher. Especially when it's on sale. so things add up when you stock up more than you consume.. at least i horde non-perishables. :)
I normally get my groceries else where but hit the colesworths with their sales/clearance items. i think both finish and fairy packaging aren't that airtight, even if they came with the 'ziplock' feature. The group buy one that i got was even worse, it came in a box and a non air tight plastic thing resembling a case.
@slowmo: As I fill my car up with 98, I find there is virtually no savings going to Shell with the 4cents voucher as Shell 98 is grossly overpriced compared to their standard 91 petrol.
BP don't charge as large a premium for their 98 compared to their 91, so even without the voucher it's about the same price as shell 98 with a voucher. I also find the BP near me is always slightly cheaper than Shell for their 91 petrol.
Though I must admit, I did go to Shell when their had their 8 or 16c per litre discount voucher.
@JB1: then you would like costco fuel if you have one near you. :)
i use caltex mainly because -4 cents and -5% using wish cards.

I'm cheap on my other Turbocharged car, so any brand 95 will do :)

there is costco fuel in nsw @ crossroads. there might be another one in melb,i'm not sure.
The money I save from ozbargain is used to fund petrol and cars!

I'm not greedy, I'll be happy with a base model 981 in a manual.
However, I doubt I'll get one and not because I can't afford it, but due to the fact I'm on this website confirms I don't like to be ripped off. And Porsche Australia are ripping Aussies blind.
Knowing we pay more than double what the US pays, it tears me apart because I know they are fantastic cars to drive and I would love to own one.
@JB1: well, i haven't given it much thought about it other than the fact that it's an awesome hybrid car to own. I will worry about the lhd/rhd thing when i saved up my millions :P who knows, i might end up buying i20s because i became a scrooge mcduck and prefer to be swimming in a room full of coins. :D
normally for exotics, people import them from the states/eu so that they dont get charged for the stealership 'tax'. I remember someone was commenting in a car forum that to bring in a brand new M6 from overseas, pay the tax and whatever street worthy mechanics and paperwork, it ends up cheaper by 10+ grand. That's just a BMW!
Yeah it will be cheaper, but harder to sell.
Why would you import a brand new M6 just to save 10% or say $20k? It would be worth $50-$100k less than an Aussie delivered one if you tried to sell it.
When it's about half the price, then it becomes worthwhile, or if the car isn't available locally, i.e. 918.
I call bullshit on importing an M6, as there are laws in importing new parallel cars. I do know you can do it on some cars on a commercial basis if the car wasn't sold here or import it privately, i.e. own it personally overseas for 12 months+.
I wouldn't own a hybrid for fuel economy, but I would own one when they are used for performance. Can't wait until hybrids are introduced into everyday sports cars rather than the 918s and P1s of this world which I'll never get to experience.
@JB1: i have a non-hybrid that does 7.4l/100km and a hybrid @ 6.2/100km and 5/100km on eco mode. and the hybrid is much zipper than the non-hybrid and consumes way less fuel no matter how it was driven. The non-hybrid is a 1.8L while the hybrid is 2.5L (a bigger and heavier car)
that's why my fascination with hybrids, i think of them as the 10-20k snake oil premium for that "capacitor/air box tuning" that others would typically spend on a non-hybrid car… in this case I actually get real life benefits on both Fuel consumption and power.
i dont care much for the import laws at the moment, they change depending on the weather and different things may apply by the time i am ready to import. :) i take the forums as face value but i remember the poster scanned some of the paperworks and all.
I actually don't mind hybrids.
$5-600 ECU flash tune will get you 20% extra power on many European turbo cars, but at the expense of fuel economy. Trying to get more power out of a non-turbo car is fruitless and expensive.
The poster is a fool, either a fool for bullshitting, or even a bigger fool for actually doing it. A brand new high performance BMW is going to have some problems with it, like many European cars. It may be simple issues with the build, rattles, problems with electronics etc. They will be dealt with quickly by a dealer.
Or it may have a small engine/sensors problems, check engine lights, etc. Not the end of the world and the dealer will fix it IF you have warranty. You're going to be up for big $$$ from BMW if you have these small issues because they aren't exactly easy cars to diagnose and BMW charge a fortune for their labour, think $160 per hour.
At least if you imported a 1 year old car, these issues would become apparent in the first few months and should be fixed under warranty by the time you get it.
Anyway, just to keep this conversation semi relevant, I went to K-Mart and the Finish Dishwashing Tablets were all sold out.

that's the thing about tuning, you sacrifice 1 set of numbers for another. i admit that i prefer changing the car if i wanted a faster car instead of going through the tuning process (one can't tune a pig to fly :) perhaps i don't form an attachment to the model/brand of the car i'm driving.
the poster managed to work out with bmw that the local dealers will honour the warranty of his car here. So take it as you will.( think that is plausible, because afterall, these jokers still contact their 'hq' for parts replacements and takes forever to ship them anyway..)
I won't be buying BMWs as i'm sick of the faults that happens ever so often in the 3xx/5xx/7xx series (they were our family car > 2 decades ago) thus never again.
i rather go lexus tbh… though I've not seen a nice zippy 4dr sedan from them since the isf and they killed it off.

yeah, I'm a big fan of BMWs and they way they drive. But the old man has one that I'm responsible for servicing. It hasn't been too bad, and cost wise isn't that much since I do the majority of the servicing myself.
You don't like the current IS350 F Sport? Seems more than powerful enough for for me. Looks good too, it's the only Lexus I would consider buying for my family.
@JB1: perhaps it's because we got a bad run of BMWs with the 3,5 and 7 series and got fap around by the stealership so much that we decided to just stay away from the marque.
now we find that korean cars and jap cars are easier to 'maintain'… buy a new one when it got too trashed (**exaggeration) :P
nah.. I find IS350 is way too wide and tall for me (and it looks like a more expensive camry-fied of the is250) and gs350h would be a good alternative if they didn't nerf the power on that thing.
I like the form of isf, but they killed off the 4 door sedan in favour of the 2 door RCF (rear seat is for midgets) I can only hope they realise their 'mistake' and come up with a ISF-like car that caters to families with child seats. :D
I hear you about Japanese & Korean cars. Much much lower out of warranty repairs. Owning a recent BMW out of warranty would be a nightmare, i.e. is there any reason to delete a simple fail safe dipstick with an electronic oil sensor which WILL fail one day. When it fails, you have NO way to check your oil level. Smart move BMW.
I still wouldn't buy a Korean car, not because I'm a snob, but because I don't like the way they handle. However would recommend for people as they are decent cars.
But I do like Japanese cars, just haven't owned one in over 10 years :) Last 3 cars of mine has been European, sucker for punishment I suppose! lol But I may consider a 86/BRZ or WRX for my next personal car.
It would be silly for Lexus not to make a IS-F based on the current IS series. You sure nothing in the pipeline?
@JB1: so far, i've been lurking in the isf forums, nothing in the pipeline, rumor is 2016 but i'm sceptical. The RCF front grill is fugly tbh, i commented a couple of years ago that the bad designers in korean marques has gone over to japan car companies!
I think BMW follows the 'design to fail' concept to make people buy new cars much like light bulbs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence) :P
i think depending on which car it was (korean), the handling is okay but because the steering is light by factory default, you don't feel the road at all if you have been used to heavier steering… I know cars like i30 (even the ones predates i30) handles quite decently and you had to insist they set the feedback to be heavier (this was way before the marketing dept took the idea and ran with it calling it customised steering flex steer or some crap)
86/brz is very fun/good for track play, but do bear in mind if you don't do much of tracking/drifting, stock for stock, you have to get used to the idea of being overtaken by a 4 cyl family sedan (like a camry hybrid). :P
re:wrx, at risk of starting a religious war, i think evo ix or vi is a good alternative. Especially the pig-nose wrx… is like a flashing red target light for coppers.. haha
