What is the difference between the Office 2013 suites and Office 365 plans?

Office suites have traditionally included applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for use on a single PC. All Office 365 products, such as Office 365 Home, are paid for on a subscription basis, annually. Active subscribers will receive version upgrades as a benefit of their subscription. Entitlements vary by product.

Asked Microsoft Online Sales. Office 365 University can be used on 2 PCs/Macs PLUS 2 Tablets/Phones. So maximum 4 devices.

Might be worth checking if your school/tafe/university supplies Office.

  • +3

soon office 365 will be free for use for all users with an active .edu.au email address unless your institution opts out. Before the end of the year.

    • -2

yes that may be true but it doesn't mean it includes desktop versions of office apps. This would be the email/sharepoint stuff.

      • +1

You are wrong. You can use the latest desktop version. I have done it successfully. Unimelb

      • it will include the desktop versions.

It has started. I have successful login through my uni account. I am studying @ university of melbourne

      • Not available free at UNE

        • That means UNE has opted out of it. Microsoft has it free for all students unless the school has said no ( according to their blog)

      • the offer has been around since last December but it requires your institution to provide the licences. Whats coming out is student self service to obtain the licences.

      • Can you tell me how you did it? I'm also from unimelb but I don't know how to do it.

  • I work at a medical research institute, affiliated with a uni (I do have an .edu address)… reckon I'd be eligible? This is cheap; < $20 a year for the entire suite, including new versions.

    • if you wait a few months it will be free as long as you have a .edu.au active email address.

  • +1

@gnartyknuckles, yes, you can get it no problems.
I bought my Office 365 from the online microsoft shop and for proof of eligibility a .edu email address was all that was required from me.

  • Do you need to keep the .edu email for the whole 4 years (ie does it keep checking annually/regularly)?

    • I guess no, it asked me verify my edu before I order 365.

    • +1

When I ordered it from microsoft online it used the .edu mail account to send me the download link. That was all.

  • Did anyone get it for $74? Won't allow click and collect and delivery is $4.95?

    • It was free delivery in the morning but they changed it. You can add these items to save on delivery

      invisibleSHIELD iPhone4/4S High Definition $3.98
Dick Smith NANO Camera Cleaning Cloth $4.98
Kids Earphones Volume restricted, perfect for young ears $4.98

  • The real question an ozbargainer would ask is. … How can I get a free .edu.au address without being at an educational institution?
