I've had a string of bad steaks at some of Brisbane's so called best steak hotels (Norman prior to the fire / Breakfast Creek Hotel / Morrision and the Normanby). All these hotels charge like wounded bulls (no pun intended) for steaks these days and the quality has definitely dropped. I vowed never to eat at the Norman hotel again (i'd been going for 20+ years since I was a kid), after they provided the 'fresh' bread roll in some airline style plastic packaging. That was the last straw.

There are real chefs cooking steaks a magnitude better in local restaurants and the price is not that much different these days from the hotels. In Brisbane, michelin star french chef Bruno used to cook at Baguette.
http://www.baguette.com.au/. You can sign up at that restaurant website for the email list and get a $40 voucher for your next meal. So long as you don't mind handing over vouchers (I get my wife to do it ;) ), you're going to get a much better food experience. Rarely can I get a proper medium rare cooked steak at a steak hotel these days; they are all paranoid/cost-driven about kitchen-returns, so hence seem to over cook the thing.

At 50% off, the Normanby is probably ok. I think Morrison hotel is probably the best of the bad lot.

I know what you mean.. Brekky creeks best value is the lunchtime steak rolls $6.50
The Morrison has similar steak ala brekky creek but at least they bring it to your table.

My favourite steak house at the moment is Fix Restaurant just next to The Port Office on Margaret St.
Great specials on the board always, well priced meals and the extensive steak menu is truly mouth-watering.

      Nice wood fired pizzas too!

Went there yesterday lunch for Father's day - the table we were directed to, the floor was wet and the sun was shining thru… requested for a change of table which the grumpy staff said we cant because everything was reserved. We changed anyway to a better location. The place never became full - table at back and front of me was vacant during the entire meal.

Had Waygu steak + 3 combo (bugs, calamari, shrimp… steak(medium well) was burnt outside = 26+11. Had Chips and Cheese pizza which were both ok. (How can you go wrong with chips??).

For the price point, its alright but found the staff too stuffed up expecting to deal with lotsa people. ( they warmed up eventually ). Steak was burnt and thats not the way I want it (if i wanted well done, id say well done).

Should be an excellent eat deal for the promo period but past that I wouldnt pay full price for it.
