I want to recommend this but I can't. Anet seems to be understaffed / resourced and too focused on an imaginary audience ('esports') to cater to more traditional mmo players. They seem to not want to put out expansions, but the free content comes out at a snails pace. Putting all the problems with the actual MMO aside, the combat is nice, and the art is gorgeous, but don't expect well balanced classes or a deep dungeon experience.

This is an excellent MMO for questing and exploring. The graphics are great and they have perfected a lot of the things that annoyed me with other MMOs (inventory management, questing, etc.) The dungeons are interesting as there is no holy trinity (Tank-Healer-DPS) and more along the lines of everyone look out for themselves. The game also has a lot of depth and complexity which can be challenging for new players. There is a ridiculous amount of content for a one off fee (there is no recurring monthly costs) so great value for money. As a casual gamer I have been playing for over a year and have barely scratched the surface. Also the community are half decent and no way near the amount of jerks that exist in WoW.

  • it's a very pretty looking game. graphics are awesome.

but, after a little while it's really boring..

say you level 20 and u go into a lvl 10 area, you are downgraded to lvl10 thus your experience is always the same, dont matter what level you are or where you go.

the free trial is almost all you need before boredom sits in, unless you like exploring new areas - there is a ton of them and they are all very good looking.

  • as for complexities of character builds, etc. i recommend Dungeon's a Dragons online
