  • If you're following the progression of multiples of 111, #9 should be $1332 and #10 should be $2220. =P

I'm guessing the implication is that this could be combined with the free shipping offer.

    • +1

      I think #9 should be $1,110, and #10 should be $1,221 :P

      • +1

The free shipping offer said TV's weren't included.

"Starting from $333" yet there is a TV for $222 :P

    +1 from me

    where's my 111 tv?

Holy mackeral,, the 42" VIVO Plasma = $777!!!
So it's only 720p,, who cares for that money?
Anyway,, my reading suggests that you need 50"+ to see the benefit of 1080p at any normal viewing distance (and of course you need to be watching a 1080p source; EG blueray,, not "just" HDTV which tops out at 720p).

Do you know how long the warranty is?

not “just” HDTV which tops out at 720p

      HDTV tops out at 1080P
Technically speaking HDTV is anything from 576P to 1080P

Free to air TV broadcasts top out at 1080i.
Even though 1080 > 720 because of progressive scan a 720P picture generally is better to watch than a 1080i image.

      As for the TV.
It has a resolution of 1024 x 768 which is a 4:3 image, so to get the image into a 16:9 screen they use rectangle pixels.
The resolution for 720P is 1280x720.
Due to the horizontal size of the TV a horizontal resolution of 1024 will display a much softer resolution image compared to a true 720P TV.

Its a cheap TV, you get what you pay for..

      • Hi TonyDude.
My 'not “just” HDTV which tops out at 720p' comment was stated in the assumed context of Australian Terrestrial Digital Television Broadcasting, for which HD is either 576P, 1080I, or 720P, hence my observation that the highest HDTV resolution is 720P (given that an interlaced 1080 line signal actually contains 540 unique lines which are each double scanned).

Very good observation on the lack of horizontal resolution due to the elongation effect implicit (for a 16:9 720P DVB-T broadcast signal) in the 1024 column pixel density.

        Jean-Luc.

we originally purchased the 32" lcd and it was great, but dad wanted something bigger so we returned it and got the 42" which is even better even though its plasma. i believe warranty was one year but you can extend it. you can negotiate the extended warranty price, $150 down to $100. it seems they have alot more power when extending warranty which is why you can negotiate it.

    • but you can extend it. you can negotiate the extended warranty price

Extended warranty is just a money spinner.

Have a read of the TPA and you will see why.

Even if the TV only has a 12 month warranty and it breaks after 18 the manufacturer is under an obligation to fox it as the TV must be of merchantable quality and fit for purpose (as stated in the TPA).
A TV only lasting 18 months is not fit for purpose.

      • But how will you actually get a manufacturer to fix an out-of-warranty TV???

If they know their obligation then it shouldnt be too hard.

Many years ago now i purchased a plasma TV, about 19 months after the warranty expired the panel died.
I called up and explained that the tv was about 1.5 years out of warranty, the person simply said 'out of warranty out of luck' i then explained that the panel is stated to last 50,000 hours which works out to be about 6 years and the TV was much younger than that.
A few days later someone was around replacing the panel at no charge.

If you do have problems with a manufacturer and their statutory warranty obligations then a call to your states consumer protection panel will get things moving quickly.
