Expensive running costs compared to LED

    • +2

Here are some figures for you

      Lighting costs compared
      Bulb Running cost* To Purchase
      50W $ 20.38/year $5.99 in store
      35W $ 14.27/year 50c each at the moment
      9W LED $ 3.67/year $6 online import

      • Cost calculated on four hours per night at the 2014/15 Tariff 11 Residential electricity price of 27.916 cents/kWh.

      found at https://www.yourpowerqld.com.au/lighting/replacing-halogen-d…

      Hope this helps … Darren

  • I'd recommend this instead:
    https://www.masters.com.au/product/101047094/mort-bay-4-5w-l…

I went the 6w version, and it is way too BRIGHT! and with the 100 degree angle beam the light is spread out much more evenly if you are having an array of them.

    • In addition if you stack cashrewards 2% (https://www.cashrewards.com.au/masters) and 5% wish gift cards..

this equates to : $12.40 per bulb
and with the data provided above : $1.84/year

i've tried the ebay import ones (3 leds/4 leds) they all died within a month

Wrong base - please dont confuse bases
Gu10 is 240v like the one listed above
      advertised is a gu5.3 base 12v

But if your after some LED i have 5w pack of four $29 (GU10 or GU5.3 Base)

Thanks for the heads up hys

      • Hi Darren, Any deal on MR16 around the same price? wide angle and bright, warm white, reliable. Thanks.

        • Hi eatwell365

The one listed are mr16 warm white 38 deg

Any broader angles tend to lose light on the angle, so we sold more 38 deg than any other. We also have some 50w listed below

        • @Citym10: How do I claim double?

        • @StevieRay: anyone bought during the sale will get double - We will pack them with your order (50w only)

          Darren

      • MR16 ones are here: https://www.masters.com.au/product/101047123/mort-bay-6w-led…

Am i only one that dislikes the look of led? It looks so clinical.

      • +1

Yep, awful greenish tinge to warm white, or blue tinge to cool white. yuck.

      • You certainly have to choose carefully with LED lights - there's a lot of junk out there. You really need to check the color rendering index number and curves and the 'heat' level of the light (i.e. 3000k). QH and regular incandescent globes offer very natural light and are hard to match.

        • I've tried a few and haven't found any that are even close to halogen.

  • Under 2 hours left

    • Why does paypal refer to your personal hotmail address?

      • It was the way we set it up initally.

  • 10 Mins to go …..

    Thanks everyone
