  • What diff is this from those Samsung or Turo for $70+? This seems a good deal

  • None on the Sunny Gold Coast :(

    • Ahh poop. Thanks, saves me looking.

  • If you see a store has it online and its not on the shelf then ask them to look out back.
Seems like this one is getting phased out, and quite a few stores are only putting the WD Slim on display.

  • Worth buying it !!

  • Would it work on a ps3?

    • Plugged into the use port, yes.
You cant pull it apart and use it internally in the ps3

  • Good deal! Hopefully they still have some stock at my local

  • Is it compatible with a MacBook?

    • +3

The WD 1TB Elements Portable Hard Drive is a PC only hard drive but can be reformatted to work with a Mac.

      • Thanks for the quick reply guys really appreciate it :)

    • +3

all you need to do is format to FAT32 and it will be.

      • Thanks for the quick reply guys really appreciate it :)

I installed NTFS-3G on my MBA and I didn't have to format my HDD to FAT32. My HDD works on both PC and Mac.

        • Good job! BTW FAT32 is extremely susceptible to corruption and data loss compared to NTFS. As for exfat it's recommended on thumb drives and small media typically under 100GB.

I learnt at TAFE from my computer teacher that you can format your HDD with UDF which is the format used on DVDs & CDs typically. It's supported by all windows after XP UDF does however have a version which supports HDD that is read and write by:
Windows (everything after XP anyway which can still read it),
MAC (although MAC only supports versions 2.01 and before although Windows 7 formats it this version)
Linux (all kernals support it that are less than 3 years old)

Heres a link to format it
          http://superuser.com/questions/726743/how-to-format-a-flash-…

      • I suggest exfat instead, no 4gb file limit

    • Yes, my son uses one. Reformatted of course.

  • Got the last at Oxley Brisbane

  • This is 2.5" compared to bulky 3.5" , definitely a bargain at this price

Just picked one up from Marion Store. But they kept behind the cashiers counter and not on the shelf.

Available here going by stock check (QLD.)
    Morayfield Officeworks (store details)
    170 Morayfield Rd
    Morayfield QLD 4506
    (07) 5428 4100

    • Thank you. Grabbed one from Morayfield about 15 minutes ago. They are behind the counter in front of the laptop display. The lady said that I got one of the two left if anyone else is chasing one.

  • what's the spec for the hdd itself apart from enclosure?

  • +1

    Hi,
Thanks for posting this deal. They haven't got any in the Noarlunga store (SA) but the guy checked the computer for us and they've got 30 at Marion and 8 at Keswick. This was about an hour ago.
Price matched at JB in Noarlunga Colonnades Shopping Centre - the guy had to check his own computer and there's loads of stock - too easy!
    Thanks again

  • +1

They are awesome drives but the 2tb would be my preference. I have one at the moment and can't do without it! But at $57 bargain!

  • +2

For those people wondering about the differences between this drive and the WD My Passport Ultra: although this drive is much faster, WD only provides a 1-year warranty for it whereas the My Passport Ultra has a 3-year warranty.

So while this price is very tempting, if you are after a longer warranty period and probably the extra software and encryption, I would suggest you wait for a sale on the My Passport Ultra. I got it last time for USD $65.78 delivered.

But this is indeed a good deal nonetheless.

    • +2

Ummmm..no. Just opened it up and it has a 3 year warranty in Aus.

    • The reason I like the elements over the passports is because they don't have the software (and reformatting doesn't get rid of it as it's in the firmware)

Dee Why has 17 units and Castle Hill has 22 units and Clarence St Sydney has 22 units, as of 11.28am.

      You, I like you

  • My I use the Harddisk inside to replace the one in my computer?

    • No, we think soldered on board. Try Seagate Expansion.

For some reason JB Hifi at Elizabeth street is not price matching OW.
Got one from OW Elizabeth street after most of their staff search frantically in storage and finally found 3 at PoS.

The Enex 100 JB in Perth didn't want to price match the East Perth OW for some reason too.

The manager (I assume) wasn't too friendly when the store worker I was being assisted by asked about it. He said "is it worth the $20 to go East Perth OW" or something.. Yes man, of course.. Now will you price match for me or not?

He didn't so I went to OW.

  • +1

No stock at Caroline Springs Vic either.

  • good deal

  • +1

2 more available at werribee vic.

    • +4

Confirmed. Just opened it up, has 3 year warranty in Aus.

  • Any help! I need upgrade the hard disk in my laptop. is this fine?

    • No, soldered on board I think.

    • +1

No you can't use it like that, soldered connectors.

None left at Pitt Street OW. Went to JB Westfields Sydney and got a price match. About 10 Left on the shelf.

  • +1

Harvey Norman is also able to price match if OW's site says a local store has stock.

  • +1

JB in Enex did not want to price match. Going to East Perth OW instead.

    • +1

  • +1

Is this the price for as long as stock runs out or is it for a limited time?

  • +1

I actually bought one. I've never had any luck in the past with Officeworks clearance stock!

  • +1

Quite a few left behind the counter at Hoxton Park. Also, I rang Wetherill Park and they said that they were out of stock.

  • +1

Great deal, price matched at jb hifi hoppers crossing. They have heaps of stock. I can post receipt if anyone wants. Thanks OP.

  • Is it official policy for JB to match price? Just went to JB at Parramatta Westfield and staff there bluntly refused to price match.

    • +1

It's up to manager's discretion. At $57, it is below JB's cost by a fair whack.

  • +1

About 15-20 left at Morley, WA. They're behind the counter - not on the shelf.

  • +3

Website stock levels totally inaccurate by at least 8 hrs. Call before going.
