    Upvote for the tags :)

    • Can't agree more! =P

  • hope there are some brissy-Syd flights happening

  • Maybe I'm a noob with flight deals but I just checked all of April and May 15 for Bri-Cairns and got nothing cheaper than $69 each way.

Surely they could link to their selection page with the appropriate dates rather than having to go day by day?

Sale starts at 1500 (3pm) today.

      • Noob and I cannot read it seems :)

        Cheers ;)

    • edit: beaten

  • Hi,
I have vague memories of a TV show about this airline. Is it in the same league as qantas/jetstar/virgin these days for routine domestic flights?

    • +5

      'Lost' ? jk ;)

      • +1

It was like Lost but less entertaining. It was a reality TV show where they'd capture the joy of Tiger airlines destroying family holidays with outrageous rules and fees.

        • +1
        • +2

People buy dirt-cheap tickets with an airline renowned for their RIGID rules & zero tolerance.
A vast minority think the rules don't apply to them. Go mental, make tools of themselves on TV, for the nation to see.

Can't have your cake & eat it too.

        • +1

@Utopian: I agree with everything you said except the "vast minority" part ;)

    • +7

Tiger Air is now part owned by Virgin as part of it's two teir response to the two teir QF/JQ idea of full service and low cost carrier in the group.

Read the rules and you will be fine. We use them regularly. They are starting to enforce carry on limits, so stick to the 10kgs or buy baggage up front.

To avoid the booking fee, we buy a $2.95 prepaid Mastercard from Woolworths and put the amount on it we need then buy the flights with it. Saves you $8.50 a leg per person booking fee.

      • Thanks for the info

      • I tried that, but I still got stung for the charge. Not sure how I go about querying it now, I can imagine it won't be easy!

        • Anyone able to point me out where on their website they actually say that the surcharge doesn't apply to Australian issued debit Mastercards? And how can I prove it is a debit card, not a credit card? The invoice says "Credit Card" even though it is a Woolworths prepaid card. They will probably say it doesn't meet the criteria for the surcharge not to be applied!

  • Worth nothing that the $15 flights will only be available on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.

  • The title at Daily Telegraph says "Tigerair launches $15 flight sale to celebrate $15 million passengers"

How do they make $15 million passengers (15 million dollars?)? Must be through the booking fees, rebookings and extra baggage charges.

  • I just love the tags associated with Tiger Air …. especially as I have $400 odd in credit with them due to a cancelled flight

    • Tiger-fail?

Cool, managed to get 2 x return flights SYD-ADL for $60. Paid with Mastercard debit, so no fees.

    • Same here. Now to find some cheap accommodation!

      • I'll be staying at the YHA. Centrally located, public bus from airport stops about 100m from it and from $30 per night for 6 bed share. Booked flight for 19/5/15 to 26/5/15.

  • I have 2 x $100 Tiger vouchers and my total booking comes to $220.
So, do I buy a $3.95(I think it's gone up)prepaid debit Mastercard from Woolies and just load $20, am I right?
Does Tiger charge conversion fee? In that case, $20 may not be enough?

    • Conversion fee? Which country are you buying your MasterCard from?

      • -2

I thought Tiger Air is a foreign company so I thought they would charge currency conversion fee or something…

  • Website seems pretty broken. When I select OOL it says it can't find any destination, for any date.

  • +1

    $15 fare is only between 28 April 2015 and 6 May 2015

    • Thanks. No wonder when I selected 7 may it came up $45

  • Thank you

  • When I type eg.Sydney in To field, it says "We couldn’t find any matches." from Chorme browser.
    Tiger Fail !!!

    • And that's just their website.

  • Hi all, I thought I was pretty good online for airline info but……Tigerair has me baffled in their FAQ!

    1. Is Checked in baggage included?
    2. Is the 15kg included?
    3. Is it $70 for a 15kg checked in bag?
3b. Do you have to check your bag in 2 hrs before a flight?
    4. Do you get allocated a seat automatically or is it a first in the door best dressed?
    5. They have no FF program?
    6. Is there a credit card fee\charge?
    7. What is the cheapest way to pay for a flight?

    Regards

    • +4
      1. No. Only 10kg carry-on
      2. Again, no. You can purchase this as an add-on
      3. I think 15kg was about $18 and 20kg was about $20
3b. Uh, it's same as any other airline. Just has to be checked-in before the flight. I think 2 hours is when they first start accepting backage.
      4. You can choose a seat online (that costs $$) when booking. Otherwise, you can choose your seat during the check-in period, which is usually 24 hours prior to the flight departure with all airlines.
      5. That's right.
      6. Yes. It costs $8.50 per journey per person unless you use an Australian-issued Mastercard Debit card (which is free). I believe they legally have to provide this free option so they can advertise those rates.
      7. An Australian-issued Mastercard Debit card.
      • Nicely done

Almost got caught. Didn't realize up to 10kg carry on is free

  • I'm getting $55 each way for 2 adults and one infant. Travel 1st - 5th may. What am I missing?

    Thanks

    • The 1st is a Friday.

  • No $15 fares that I can find. Where are they?

    • Probably sold out for the day, there was only 1500 available. Try again tomorrow at 3pm AEST.. the routes will be different however.

  • Does anyone know which routes will be on Wed and Thu?

    • Website updated today, it appears to be:

      Brisbane <> Sydney
      Hobart <> Melbourne
      Whitsunday Coast <> Sydney
      Melbourne <> Mackay

Sounds like an UNBELIEVABLY GOOD DEAL
You know what they say when something sounds too good to be true.

I'll share my only experience with cheap Tiger Fares, sure they may have changed hands only it's still Tiger.

Last time I flew Tiger I got to Sydney OK but they cancelled my Sunday return flight mid Sunday afternoon and couldn't offer a return flight till Wednesday. Oh yeah it took 3 hours to get through on the phone number they text me to call and flattened my phone in the process all of which added to the stress.

Me and GF had to be at work on Monday so wound up forking out about $600 for tickets at short notice to get back to Adelaide.

Oh yeah, Tiger happily returned the $45(?) pp for the cancelled tickets saying it was my problem if I didn't take travel insurance and I advise everyone to at least understand the risk because I sure didn't.

I will NEVER AGAIN FLY TIGER unless it is Not Critical to get anywhere within a particular time frame of 3-4 days OR factor in insurance in the costs, please ensure you understand the risk that without travel insurance you may wind up paying a premium fare with another carrier.

    • Based on this post, can someone recommend a good travel insurance to take while travelling Tiger? I only need it for the event if and when the flight gets cancelled and I jump onto another airline and then re-imburse the fare for that.

I am travelling for the first time tomorrow with Tiger and have to be back home on Sunday to report to work on Monday. So I rather be safe and pay the ~$10-20

  • Ah airline sales; where "bait and switch" is alive and well (sale fares sold out? try a full priced one instead!)

  • I got 2 adults 2 kids to whitsundays no probs at 3pm :)

  • Great price! But i think you have to travel on Tue or Wed only??? to get that price which means it's a 7 day trip, at least…

  • So is the BNE <> DRW today (18/09/14)?

    • +1

      Yep.

  • Just got $30 Return Adelaide to Brisbane. :)
