Time to pull a Dick Smith, and click the 'Hide deals from store eBay Australia' box.

It's back again this Sunday from 8pm to 9pm AEST. Includes the following deals:

    Samsung Galaxy S5 16GB for $500.

Only one deal is known so far?

    • And I also wonder how this will work. Does that mean the seller can price it at whatever price eg. $2000 and the buyer would only be capped at $500? I can possible exploits and abuse…

      • Lol imagine the exploits!

Alas no, same as last time Kogan will offer it for $500. No tricks

      • +1

I think this price is only offered by a single seller. Like TGG, DS, Kogan etc.

      • I can see*

  • -4

This has been back every week since they had the first one

    • +9

      Except it hasn't.

    • +1

Everyone is so smart except for everyone

  • What are the rest 11 items within the deal?

    • thats odd - 12 deals. why not 10 or 20 ?
unless a dozen is their aim.

      • +13

        12 x 5mins = 60mins. It's an hour of power. The power to resist!

      • +1

why not Unicorns? is it also odd that there are no Unicorns, or chocolate underpants? indeed

  • How do you know S5 is in?

    • Facebook ad.

    • +29

Apart from it's not COTD and it's eBay, they have some of the best servers in the world.

      • +3

        This.

      • true, but it did crash with those stupid pillow things

        • it wasn't responding for a few minutes max, wouldn't call it a show stopping crash.

        • +1
        • @payton: It only needs to be down "a few minutes" and shows over….

        • +1

          @ultramag69:
The definition of a first world problem. Site came back up within 4 minutes and show went on as usual. Compare that to little sites that got overwhelmed by visits from ozbargain members and shut down completely for hours and ending the deal at the same time.

        • why people buy that pillow when you can get anywhere else for $29 delivered..they got rip off hehe (google search)

      • Even NASA is jealous of ebay's servers. Legit.

    • +2

it's like 3 or 4 weeks already. their website is very good. no lag, no error.

  • +3

Please update the 1 of the remaining 11 deal is..
Logitech UE Boom for $95, MRP 199.

    • how is that compared to BOSE SoundLink® Mini Bluetooth® speaker?

      • +1

        http://www.giyf.com/

There are heaps of comparisons out there. But overall both seem to lead the mini speaker market targeting different audiences. Bose for home use, UE boom for outdoors and on the go.

      • -2

tbh, if you're asking that question your ears aren't trained enough to tell the difference. Both are good speakers, its just a matter of personal preference of design.

      • +1

I disagree with the above posts. I'm no audiophile but the Bose sh*ts all over the UE Boom. I bought the UE Boom to start - put some classical music on to relax and found myself agitated because the UE lets off some white noise which is audible in a quiet environment. No issues whatsoever with the Bose which I promptly bought the following day. (I also tested a mate's UE Boom, and found the same thing).

Having said this, the UE would be good for party situations; it can work in stereo mode if you have 2; its more rugged; and you can charge it with micro USB.

So depends what you're using it for. Though for $99 I'd be tempted to get it for camping etc.

      • +1

BOSE SoundLink has a great sound quality, IMHO you can tell the difference, the sound is amazing and enough battery juice when compared with boom.
However, BOSE SoundLink is little heavier and bulkier when compared with boom. Boom can easily be carried out whereas BOSE SoundLink may not fit all the situation.
Secondly, Boom has better bluetooth range from my experience and sound quality isn't that bad, probably you would be okay with its quality if you have never heard BOSE.

If you want sound quality - then go for BOSE SoundLink
but if you want everything then BOOM is great.

        • Above is just my comparison from personal experience, other may have different view.
    • Damn that's a good price.

    • ah shit, might have to actually buy one for $95 haha

  • Lose me pretty quickly in keeping secret the merch in question. and by how much notice for next advertisement, ?8pm/.

  • Typically teased whether 16gb S5 in or not.. and then would it be shown 8.35 or 8.45 etc. By leaving those intervals alone unpublished, it could reserve a slice of any participating market regardless.

  • +1

Hope its not like last time. Total waste of time.

    • Got my Z2 from last time :). Though the rest of the deals were crappy.

      • I saw both of them (Z2 in the last one, and S5 in an older one). The Z2 lasted the whole 5 minutes (less than 100 sold), and all the S5 (I think there were 500) lasted ~30 seconds.

Get ready for this one with S5. $500. Bargain?!

    • Yep. A real fizzer last time

  • -4

These are gimmicky deals at best. I am sure there are many OzBargainers still waiting for their 50% off BBQ's which were bought from a certain un-named seller who sold 318 webber BBQs simply collected money and orders, then shopped his bulk purchasing power around to get a deal for himself while holding his customers to ransom with a smile. Effectively: "sorry I have no product, you can be refunded at the 50% off rate or sit around and wait until I source the product".

    • +11

eh how is that ebay's problem? If the seller said they had 300 bbq's and they dont deliver thats the sellers problem.

and to the above poster that compare to COTD. When COTD have "crazy" sales - they have 5-10 stock. This 5 minute deal last time they had 50/100 stock of the hottest items. So technically they are 10x better than COTD - and their server has never crashed.

Its lose/lose for them isnt it? Have a promotion that costs you money and people crap on you. Have no promotions and people crap on you.

      • +3

My point was these deals are used by unscrupulous sellers who do not have stock, eBay builds these sellers up through free advertising / preferential placements on the site up in order to gain publicity for themselves (ie look here we're selling cheap stuff) when in actual fact there is little or no bargain to be had as stock is literally non existent. I guess I am bitter as a 10 year power seller who continually gets kicked in the head by eBay yet the BBQ guy has the eBay AU team personally helping him facilitate his sales of stock he doesn't have, which I am pretty sure is against eBay policy. (yes all people who bought the BBQ are being contacted by an eBay staff member by telephone next week to personally discuss their order). I am sure this is being done to stop mass bad publicity when 318 people start calling consumer affairs.

Good luck to the 1% of people who sit by their PC waiting for the Galaxy S5 and actually receive one.

As for the neg to my comment - seriously people, I didn't neg the deal I just shared my own view of the reality of these types of deals actually delivering to the majority of punters.

        • +1

sales of stock he doesn't have, which I am pretty sure is against eBay policy

More than half of eBay is dropshippers. Its not against ebays policy

        • jason, they're two different type of events. I believe the sellers in the 5-minute-auctions are already predetermined by Ebay. The 20-50% off type sale are open slather, anyone can list hence you see the 80-feedback guy trying to scam people with promise of $425 cashback if they're "optimistic" enough to ignore the warning signs and paid him.

Its lose/lose for them isnt it? Have a promotion that costs you money and people crap on you. Have no promotions and people crap on you.

+1. Even with dodgy fake BBQs being reported chances Ebay lost money from paying discounts for non-existest items.

    • +3

from previous sale, usually big Australian, or at least known Australian seller. not everyone can become part of this sale

    • +1

I'm pretty sure a lot of people got a great deal from this promotion.

    • Not true. I have already received my BabyQ.

      • That was the Good Guys who were selling those - I'm talking about another seller eBay featured on Page1 who had about 80 feedback and zero actual stock at hand to sell.

    • If you don't get delivery within a reasonable time, open a paypal dispute and get your money back.

      • Understand yes, but the promo was only 1 per paypal account, so once it was redeemed, the opportunity to use the code was lost to the backyard seller who waited until the promo was over to reveal he actually had zero stock and would source it now he had the money and orders ;-(

I know I'm just sucking sour grapes, but I am annoyed eBay gives preferential treatment to some sellers through these promos, especially annoyed when this preference is given to sellers who play outside the rules (in respect to having less stock than sales they take or no stock at all) and are rewarded for it. Same thing will happen tomorrow.

  • kindle (not sure which model) @$100 - http://imgur.com/tXjjjn0

    • Would seem to be Wifi (only) Next Gen

      • Damn by the way the OP said "4G" I thought it was with Cellular that would be CHEAP

        I think it means 4th Gen? :(

        • Yes, no such thing as 4G cellular Kindle paperwhite

        • Sorry, typo. It's 4GB. Edited.

  • S5 will sell out

    • +3

      Pillow pets won't

      • Next, any bulky items ordered will come packed in a box.. with pillow pets used instead of bubble wrap or packing peanuts inside.

The only way they'll be able to get rid of them…

  • +2

Need a ps4 for all my bargain games and controllers

    • -2

      Nah you need a PC.

  • i checked the last two sundays and they didnt have any 5 minute deals, wasnt it supposed to be every sunday? Unless i am mistaken.

  • These actually do seem pretty decent for once.

  • The Sony Xperia z2 I got at the last Sunday session is fantastic. Yes the box wasn't sealed and it did have a Chinese stockmarket trading app preinstalled, but deleted that and all is well in the world again! It also came with a desk cradle which wasn't mentioned in the ad as well as an additional aus usb charger and aus adapter for the Chinese plug. Must say I'm pretty happy.

    • Same. Happily surprised with the inclusion of the magnetic charging dock :-).

  • Question: How does the warranty apply if it's an online purchase? i.e. Where do I send it to if there's a defect?

    • Same as any other purchase. You can either send it to the seller or the manufacturer.

  • +1

If your product is grey imported like most / all Kogan deals, you deal with Kogan. Most manufacturers won't give you warranty on products not sold through their Australian channels. There are some exceptions that have worldwide warranty.

    • -1

toughen up and stop buying random junk where you already know you will need a warranty and the world will be a cheaper place.

  • Is it going to be worth wasting another hour?

    • Why don't we hold our own OzBargain Professional Hour, where the best group-buy bargains are saved up and drip fed in 5 minute intervals? OzBargain account holders only. Scotty I sense a $$$$ game changer here.

  • +2

RayBan Wayfarer will be $75, just saw the ad on fb.

    • I can't find the ad with office (mobile anyway). Know what model it is?

      • Checking the picture on their FB page it appeared to be the 2132 model, which is the 'New Wayfarer'. Not the original Wayfarer which is the 2140, but I'll be watching it real close because I would like some 2140's after breaking my last pair.

  • +2

correction: Kindle Paperwhite 4GB not 4G. They're clearing the Paperwhites. That is ridiculously cheap but I think I'm gonna wait for the newer model

    • Oops, my bad, forgot the B. Edited :).

    • +1

Not sure what the new model is, but $100 for the paperwhite is a no-brainer for anyone in need of a kindle right now. I got the paperwhite 3 months ago, upgrading from the old wifi. It is great, certainly more responsive then the old ones, and I personally find the in-device back light really good for reading in bed.

      • +2

They're using glass instead of plastic so the newer model is somehow going to be lighter, will have better resolution, there have been some typography issues and kindle will fix this but I agree. $100 is a really good price!

        • -4

Is it the 3G model however? Not really a bargain if it isn't.

        • +1

@abc: It's $130 at DWI cameras, without postage. $161, on special at Dicksmith. I feel like it's a bargain.

    • How about postage for this ? Or $100 comes with free delivery like eBay did with last few Sunday bargain?

      Thanks

      • Free shipping.

  • -7

Don't do it! The iPhone announcement is in 3 days!

    • +8

Whilst i don't know the specs. I suspect will not run Android OS as well as the Samsung.

  • +8

I camped the whole hour last time it was on, and wish I got an hour of my life back.

  • Well considering I didn't even know of the last eBay sale, I'm looking forward to this.

  • so we dont know when within the hour each item will come up? for instance, i want the UE boom, do i have to just wait and watch the linked ebay page every 5 mins>

    • yep.

      • that's annoying. if i miss out, i will be really off ebay. so for every customer they do get, they might piss off 5 more, not sure thats idea for them

        • You have to watch it constantly. Set a timer for 5 mins if you want to AFK when a deal is crap. If a deal is good, it will be gone within seconds, like CotD.
